Okay, so it's a slow TDK news day. :woot:

Tommy Lee Jones Approves of Aaron Eckhart's Role in The Dark Knight

Hot on the heels of Jack Nicholson's expressed outrage about being passed over for the role of the Joker in The Dark Knight, another former Batman film villain expresses his opinion about having his role taken over. In a discussion with MTV Movies Blog, Tommy Lee Jones said he wouldn't want to play the role again.

When first asked about Harvey Dent appearing in TDK, Jones expressed surprise. "Really? I thought he died." Apparently, Jones was unaware that when Chris Nolan took over the franchise with Batman Begins, he was starting fresh, and cutting any ties to the series of films that began with Tim Burton's Batman, and ran through the very campy Batman & Robin, with Jones appearing in the third film, Batman Forever.

When asked specifically about his successor, Aaron Eckhart, Jones said "I've worked with him. He's an awfully good guy." He continued, "Aaron is a good actor. He can take care of himself."

Jones did offer one final caveat to Eckhart. "That make-up, however, is difficult," he said, offering a rare grin.

The Dark Knight swings into theatres July, 2008.

Good sport, always liked TLJones despite being a bloody horrible Two Face

Yea he's a good actor at times, done a lot of bad stuff but he sure can act when he needs to.

At least he is welcoming to the role and knows he does not own that role. But I'm sure he knew that because his Two-Face was awful.

what, MTV is not gonna interview Billy Dee Williams on his say that someone else is playing Harvey Dent?

i'm furious, i am just furious :cmad:

I think its funny he didn't even know they were making a new one

Williams might actually be pissed...he still seemed bitter about Jones stealing his role from under him on the features for the DVDs...

nicholson doesn't know the series started over either.

but as far as jones goes, i think he is one of those guys like nic cage. they can definitely act, but if the director doesn't control them, then they overact. tommy lee jones is a damn good actor, but he will overact if you don't keep him in line.

Yea it seems a lot of these older actors don't understand the Begins trilogy or what Nolan is doing.

But I have a feeling after TDK it will be much wider known.

definitely. but some actors dont watch movies like fans do, so they still may not really know what's going on. but the general public will definitely get the picture after TDK

What's next, Michael Gough being saddened that Michael Caine replaced him?

He is a cow boy , he doesn't watch movies. Jack could take some pointers from him about passing the torch gracefully.

if you still dont get that Nicholson was obviously joking...well...you're just dumb :o

I think whatever I want, no need to be rude.

this isnt a matter of opinion though

"I'm furious! furious! *LAUGHS*"

Incredibly clear cut that he was just joking around like Jack ALWAYS does in interviews.

I don't think so but you don't see me insulting you.

Yea but after that he got serious and said some other things that were not the most humble. Right after that he started to bash things he did not understand. At first yea he seemed like he was joking but then actually maybe listen to the other person in the interview...the interviewer himself, he sounds surprised on how Jack is reacting. So I take it Jack was not happy in the end not because of Jack but the person talking to him sounds like he could tell he was angry.

Tomy Lee's opinion about another actor playing a character that he didn't know existed before he got the Batman Forever script doesn't mean a lot to me.
His (and Schumacher's) take on Two Face was terrible- I can't wait to see Arron take it on with a good script behind him.

I bet Adam West is still pissed that they cast Keaton almost twenty years ago.

As for Jones, he's a good guy. Nicholson's remarks just came off as pompous. Evidently he signed on to be the Joker for merchandising rights, and stood to receive compensation for every subsequent Bat-film even though he wouldn't be in them. I guess casting someone else is just the nail in the coffin.

you're wrong...why else would he laugh? do you laugh when you're actually upset and angry about something?

Some folks do, but I'm in the mind that Jack was only being half serious. Text can be so easily misinterpreted anyways.
