Look...as Trone said in the like the....4th post, it means that there will be however many universes as they want it to be. Meaning, officially? There's 52 right now. Maybe someday, somebody will say it's 53. Maybe they'll enable people to travel to other Snow Flakes (That's an interdimensional term from the Wildstorm universe that DC has appropriated once they folded it into the DCU proper.) which contain their own 52 alternate universes. Seeing as there are an infinite number of Snow Flakes, then theirs your infinite number of universes. I'm just spit balling here. Maybe there's just the one. We don't know. It's up to the writers and editors to decide.

The point is however, and I think you should really pay close attention to this bit, is that it doesn't f**king matter. If it is we'll never see all of em. I mean, if there's an infinite number of universes, do you think they'll explore ALL of these infinite universes? Hell, they may never go to every one of the 52 we know about. So it doesn't matter how many it is. They'll tell the story they want when they want and how they want.

It technically still is. There are still worlds within worlds even though there are only 52 mainline earths. Everyone of those earths has it's own interdimensional offshoots according to what Morrison has said.

It was in one of the dozens upon dozens of interviews he's done regarding this story. I can't find the specific one because it would take me all day on google search and I've got other things to do with my time. However I remember that clearly because it immediately brought to mind the Wildstorm Snow Flake theory that Anubis mentioned.

All this story is doing is identifying and clarifying the specifics of the known main 52 earths of the New 52. It's not saying that there aren't anymore beyond them. That's how comics work. Things get defined and redefined all the time.
