The Dark Knight Are we getting a love triangle?

She will probably die as a character foil. It sucks, but that seems to be the only direction they can take her. Or, she's used to 'reform' Harvey somehow during the third film, depending on how they decided to deal with him.

Yea, that's why I have her pegged as dying. The only thing I can't get past, if that happens, is how Batman will still be portrayed as a true hero after he lets someone he loves die. Already the death count is pretty high as far as we know, plus Harv is transforming into Two-Face. If Rachel dies at the end it won't seem like he is doing a great job as Batman.

It could go the Star Wars way - by the end of the second movie Rachel's dead, Harvey's insane and the city's in shambles. Batman, who had just started to get the trust of the city, is now seen as an enemy for one reason or another and the city/police are now against him. Even Gordon doesn't know if he can really be trusted. Something along those lines.

If there is to be tension between Bruce and Harvey, I'd rather it be more in line with TLH. Like with Harvey being funded by Bruce, even though he's not too big on it since Bruce is one of those "society types."

Catwoman guarding the East End is only a recent development, I thought?

So it's recent. It's still there. And she's always, at least since the late seventies, as Selina Kyle, had an element of "fight for the little guy" to her.

Let them be upset. I'm guessing most people would rather have a slightly altered Selina Kyle than Rachel Dawes.

^Yes, but even at the end of Empire, we know that Luke is still a hero (by lieu of resisting Vader), and we are left with some hope that things will get better (he is healed, Lando goes after Han). I'm just curious as to how TDK will achieve the same when it appears to be so much darker.

Joker getting caught (or killed) could be one thing of hope, I guess. And the fact that it's Batman and we know he'll make things right? I'm just guessing here - Batman could end on an entirely dark tone, for all we know, with no hope at all.

Let them eat cake. I like the idea, and I'm all for it.

'Harvey's not lost. I CAN bring him back, Jim. I know it. I still believe in Harvey Dent.'
Batman has lost many battles in the comics e.g. Jason Todd, the crippling of Barbara Gordon. Hell, he's not that impressive a detective in TLH and DV - how many people die before Alfredo and Sofia are caught or killed? But he's still a hero because he keeps on fighting. As long as we have that feeling at the end of TDK, of the grimly resolute man who will never, ever give up, we'll have our hero.

Does anybody know if the love-triangle thing has been seen in Superhero films outside of Spider-Man?

Supes/Lois/Richard

On a smaller scale: Bats/Robin/Ivy & Doom/Reed/Sue

And BATMAN FOREVER had a love triangle between Bruce Wayne, Batman and Chase.

And THE DARK KNIGHT had a love triangle between Batman, Harvey Dent, and Rachel.

Would you guys be complaining if Rachel basically played the role of Gilda Dent?

I mean, Harvey has to have at least ONE friend.

What is love without a triangle?

Man loves woman - woman secretly thinks man's brother is hot.
Woman loves man - man loves woman - man's office assistant wears a short skirt every Thursday.
Man loves woman - man dresses up like a bat, and hates crime - woman thinks his ass looks good in rubber "oh look a hot guy running for DA."

This is a sick, sick game.

If they changed her into Gilda, then it effectively wouldn't be Rachel, now would it? To answer your question, I'd much prefer if Gilda was in, Rachel was out, and there was no personal connection between Bruce and Harvey.

There won't be a personal connection between Harvey and Bruce. In the movie, Bruce punches Harvey in the balls and starts singing about trains.

Lotsa and lotsa trains! Sloooooow train! Fast trains! Little trains! Even trains that plow through snow!

The thing is, I can see TDK being dark, but I can't see it ending TOO dark. Otherwise, I can see complaints like some people had with Batman Returns, and the WB reacting too harshly and trying to go with a lighter tone in the third one (ala Forever). I won't mind the love triangle that much as long it's not the SOLE reason for Harvey to go insane, or for Batman to lose control.
