I'm pretty casual at work, tend to get along with everyone for the most part, but on the flip side, they know I tend to just say my piece and leave it at that when it comes to office politics or things of that nature. My co-worker was recently getting all buddy-buddy with my recent supervisor due to his agreeing with him on a somewhat questionable route he was going to go with a customer of ours...a little on the unethical side. I was like, "hey, do what you want, man. Not really the route I would go." Of course, the other guy agrees with him fully with his, "yeah, go for it, bro...we should hang out after work downstairs at the bar and discuss it more" spiel. I'm aware that's what has to be done in the corporate world, but whatever. Once I steal their secrets, it's entrepreneurship anyways.

I'm not an ass kisser, but it's funny how manipulative I can be. Which isn't necessarily ass kissing, since it's used to just get me where I want to be in life regardless of the consequences and can be done without relentlessly complementing someone. It's helped me a lot. Kind of like Eddie Brock in Spider-Man sometimes, show people what they want to see and you get ahead in life. Yeah, I know that sounds ****ty but it's the truth dude. Manipulation is the key to getting ahead.

I'm not one to try to trample people over (shark), but a little manipulation's healthy.

In school and the work place. Anything to get ahead in life.

Only people that are "ass-kissers" would be the supervisors. Yet, I am surrounded by idiot temps that just don't want to work and angry at the people who higher said temps.

I actually avoid ass-kissing so much, I've been stuck at a "management trainee" position for over a year, having been passed up for a supervisor promotion several times. My department manager wants me to move up, and says I probably would if I puckered up to the store manager. Ain't happening.

manic is right. unless it is an important job where you have to kiss ass to get your foot in and say, for example, get a high paying job that you have a degree in then definitely. but if its for some retail crap job like home depot (where i used to work and got passed for 3 promotions because of my constant refusal to kiss toma pachecanos ass) then its not worth it. it just means more dead end bull crap that will eventually get you no where in life but disappointment. luckily i finally got a job in my field and am happy as a pig in filth.
