The Amazing Spider-Man Are You Happy About The Reboot?

Are You Happy with the Reboot?

  • Heck Yeah! They'll finally do it right this time! Bring on the quips!

  • Heck No! I loved me some Raimi and Tobey!

  • Not sure yet. I'll wait and see who they get replaced with.

I don't get the calls for a darker Spider-Man. I can only assume most of that talk is because of the dance scenes from the 3rd film. The overall tone of the first two Spidey films are spot on though.

Though as I stated before it did bug me that Spidey wasn't cracking jokes during his fights as I feel that is a pretty important part of the character (much more so than web shooters).

I think it would be better for the medium if the Spidey reboot fails, though. It would prove that rebooting is NOT a get-out-of-jail-free card, and that it can do more harm than good if the option is not used with discretion. There are TOO MANY REBOOTS right now. Franchises that actually NEED reboots, like Superman are being ignored, while lots of franchises that DON'T need reboots are getting them anyway just because studios think it's an easy and fashionable way to make money. If Spider-Man Begins bombs, studios are going to have to reconsider the reboot business model, and hopefully give more consideration to actually PRODUCING NEW MATERIAL and BEING CAREFUL ON THE FIRST TRY.

Spider-Man 3 made almost a billion dollars, and if Spider-Man Begins makes around 200 million or less, it's going to be a big slap in Sony's face. It's hard to imagine a Spider-Man movie underperforming that badly, but if people react negatively to the franchise being rebooted so soon after the Raimi movies, it could happen.

Rebooting is essentially dropping an A-bomb on a franchise and then rebuilding from the ground up. Sometimes you build something better, sometimes you build something worse. People in general loved Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, to to see the house that Sam built being s*at upon already by the studio. The audience still thinks of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. He last played the role only 2 years ago, so his version of Spider-Man is still tied to the public's perception of Spider-Man. To suddenly see some Disney-Channel castoff in the role is going to be jarring for everyone including the oh-so-important kiddie demographic, and I think it could potentially hurt the film's box office potential.

He has cracked some jokes. I think it takes away from some of the more serious parts of the movie if Spidey is making too many jokes. A few quips are fine, too many will get annoying.

If I am watching an awesome battle between Ock and Spidey, I honestly don't want to hear 50 Spidey wise cracks. A few are fine here and there.

I don't see the logic in hoping to see a bad film based on something you like.

There is more to making a show or movie than just writing a story. The director does not have the final say in the story, they usually have to go though many re-writes before the studio is finally happy with it. Sometimes, the writers and directors have to do what the studio's want to even if they don't want to do it themselves, such as Raimi putting Venom into Spider-Man 3. And than if that director or writer doesn't want to do things that producers or studio's want to do, they get rid of that person and hire someone who will. That is most likely what is happening here, Raimi didn't want to get pushed around in doing something he didn't want to again, so Sony said, fine we will get someone who will do the movies like we want to. And then while they are at it, they will make it seem like Raimi's version didn't even happen.

Have you read the story arcs with Captain Stacy's death, and how Gwen blamed Spider-Man for his death?

Or

Gwen Stacy's death arc at the hands of the Goblin? The true Goblin Legacy?

Spider-Man has always had dark moments mixed with pure joy. And they should NEVER have a Spidey Day in NYC. Never! They need to show that ole Parker Luck.

Raimi gave us some (i.e. Spidey No More, etc.), but always washed down for kid friendly appeal, or always tainted by the ALL about ONE girl BS.

And if you think Sony is going to unmake Spidey kid friendly then you need to be reading other things besides Spider-Man comics over and over.

Agreed. The fight on the train was pretty intense. Humor would have ruined that (at least for me)

you do realize, even with Raimi gone, that the franchise can still go stale as spoiled milk?

I agree. Like I have said, I have seen this happen before. With FOX. After X2, FOX couldn't keep their hands out of the cookie jar when it came to comic book films. They micromanage all their films now, and they are cookie cutter at best post-X2.

Look at this series. SM1 and SM2, Raimi was free. Great movies. Huge successes. Then Sony decides, we have a sure fire billion dollars, let's toss in Venom! Led to a movie less good than the first 2. Now, Raimi refuses to cave into their pressure. Sony fires him.

See the similarity? Sony is becoming FOX. This new Spider-Man movie I EXPECT to be cookie cutter at best, and a no-name, easy to control guy (ala Tim Story) in the director's chair. Cause he will say yes to anything.

I am more excited for a Spider-Man 3.1 than this new reboot. That says a lot.

You want Spider-Man to be more of a jokester and quipy but you want the overall tone of the movie to be darker. Ummk.

Aunt May died! Oh no, at least she doesn't have to worry about losing her house now. You are crazy Spidey!

You know what Chester, you NEED to find someone else to stalk. LOL

AND.. you REALLY need to learn to read. :woot:

I siad more/better quips at key points. I said basically (before you) what you restated after I had already posted it. But here you GO again, trying to put words in my mouth.

Find someone else to have a man-crush on. :oldrazz:

VERY few jokes.

One of the reasons Spidey's rogues hate him so much is because he never shuts up. It also plays up the alter ego aspect of Spidey/Peter.

I say again that I liked the first two Raimi movies but they never really captured certain aspects of Spider-Man and went with things that HE specifically wanted (which was his right as the director).

Spidey's humor should be equipped where appropriate, instead of worrying of how many times it occurs. He's been known to make light of a situation even in risky scenarios, but it's when the situation becomes dangerously somber that Parker easily turns off that defense mechanism.

Yes, because we ALL know that TDK did NOT prove that you CANNOT have a Kid friendly movie... cause we ALL know how terrible that did at the box office and with critics in general.

once again, a good reason to hate Batman Begins.

Please repost the original post where you said you wanted more quips 'at key points.' I don't want to be putting any words in your mouth.

If you think Batman and Spider-Man are the same character type then you aren't a Spider-Man fan. Thank god you don't have control over these movies.

"I am Spider-Man" GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. "WHERE'S AUNT MAY."

I would Vote HELL yes, Happy with the Reboot. SM4 with Vulture made me want to go to sleep. Now, I am actually excited to see where this Franchise will go.

Not so sure about the quips. It's not ALL about the quips for me, just like it SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALL about ONE Gril in Raimi-Land either.

I hope for more/better quips at key points, but that is something that you have to walk a fine line with, or you ruin the moment.

I just seriously want some more serious storylines without the cheese, with characters and plots that stay truer to the greatness that was ASM.

*Andy Griffith voice* "Right Chere" Chester Ole boy. I know that eyesight is failin you.. You Know they say you will go blind IF you keep that up. :woot:

That's basically what I'm saying. I don't want him constantly cracking jokes in each and every fight but it would have been nice for that to be an acknowledged element of Spidey.

I also kinda missed the whole "Most of NY hates Spider-Man" thing.

The difference is that Spidey has more often than not always been kid friendly while Batman has not.

Spider-Man has not business being a "Dark" film. It can have darker elements to it but it should never be anything like say Spider-Man Reign.

OMG.. *Tweety voice* YOU DID!!! YOU DID JUST SAY I WAS NOT A SPIDER-MAN FAN!!

Like I care... LOL

I just find it funny how you're doing the same thing your "cronies" are crying about in other threads. :woot:

And WHERE did I say Batman and Spidey were the same character types? Please quote o'putter of words in mouth.. or trying (and dyin) at least.

As I said, Dark storylines mixed with moments of pure joy. Or again, if you think NOT, I suggest you read some of the ASM story arcs listed.

Then I must apologize to slag. He did say it. Then we agree on that point. But, you called me a molester so I could care less about you personally. Yuck...you even live in Texas.
