Well, ive always used single to mean i dont have a girlfriend...i mean now a days, if you tell someone whose attracted to you that your single, when your not, you really hurt their feelings as well as get called a dirty liar and stuff, so its much better to just say "no im not single".

But since your thread title so appropirately asked, i am not single, but im not in a relationship either, im in one of those "were fighting but we really both dont have a clue why so lets be stubburn for a month or so and then eventually get back together" with my should be girlfriend...it sucks.

You know, I've noticed an irksome trend in the way people define single today. I was listening to a conversation between two "unmarried" girls. One was lamenting having broken up from her boyfriend. Then she says, "I can't stand being alone....I don't like being "single".

Just say, "Yes... I'm single. But, I'm in a relationship with someone, right now."

When did this change? I hear this all the time now.

I once heard 130 million Americans are single,this could be called a sad pathetic thing.But i think they are hesitant about relationships,the divorse rate in the USA is 50%.So there is reason for concern.
