Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5 - Part 1

They don't have to be big and bulky to be scary, but it all depends on what models of terminators they're going to use in the movie.

The T-800 series were big & bulky because they had to put living flesh and blood over a metal endoskeleton. The mechanics of the endoskeleton required that the terminators be big (they weren't just metal skeletons, remember, they were robots with lots of moving parts that needed to be covered up).

The T-1000 was made of liquid metal, so he didn't need to be huge. He had no endoskeleton to cover up. The T-X from the 3rd movie was kind of a combination of the two. However they also required a slightly greater suspension of disbelief on the behalf of the audience than the original (I mean how the heck is liquid metal supposed to maintain a humanoid shape, or appear human at all?)

So if the movie is going to be Humans vs T-800s, then yes they should get big hulking muscular actors to portray them. If the story is going to be a reprogrammed T-800 vs newer terminators, then it can go either way. The newer terminators might not be made with newer materials like the T-1000 or T-X, but the endoskeletons are made to be stronger, faster, and more durable, but the moving parts still require to take up the same amount of space (the T-900, more advanced than the T-800, but less advanced than the T-1000 or T-X).

It all just depends on how the script is written.

The bolded parts would've made your point Thundarr lol. :whatever:

I dont get this thing were people want the T-800 characters design to be based on some legendary human played Arnold, for one, the humans would likely recognise him as this legend straight away and realise its not him.

And two, why would Skynet base their design on a legendary human when they think humans are useless and a threat and want to wipe them off the face of the earth?

You my friend have just killed it. You just explained simply and logically why the idea is dopey.

So, what does Arnie do in this? Does Skynet decide its new, most super advanced T-model Terminator will be a man pushing 70?

Maybe he's the scientist who takes over Project Skynet after Dr. Dyson is killed in T2. And the computer just happened to choose his likeness for the T-800's design, likely due to his bulk.

Dr. Bryce?

You mean Miles Dyson?

That and people do seem to forget this is very likely a reboot as the PR did claim.

Right, sorry. Been a long time since I've watched T2. Made the correction.

Anyway, I'm just making suggestions as to how to include a 70 year old Arnold in a new Terminator movie.

How about they just not have a 70 year old Arnold in the movie? Nobody sees movies for him anymore anyway. Not saying I want a reboot but if they are going to make it how about trying to make the film on it's own merits?

I still do damn it! :argh:
lol I love Arnold and he was my favorite movie star of the early 90's. I'll always love Arnold but he can't be an action star anymore because he's too old to be one. His movies continue to flop and personally I see the 3rd Expendables movie not doing all that will domestically in comparison to the first two. The joke has started to wear thin. I'm not saying he should quit being in movies I'm saying he should stop pretending that he is still an action star.

The Terminator franchise is not going to do some massive numbers just because he makes some embarrassing appearance in the latest film. He was too old for the 3rd one, I want him to stop already. And I don't want to see him as the human the T-800 was based on.

Can Arnold be rebooted baby John Connor?

I found it starting to wear thin from the first one tbh.

I liked watching The Expendables movies but I acknowledge that they are terrible. I didn't even go see Arnold and Sly's prison movie. I'm just over it now, they should have played in a movie together while they were youngish. It means nothing now.

they have a chance with this reboot if its a drastic different movie and at the same time good movie. not a good sumemr movie like the fast food blockbusters that are made for 2 hours and than we forget about them. no. a good movie.

Yes, it will be an infiltration model, he will be tasked to kill Sarah Connor grandparents. Who would suspect an elderly gentleman to be a Terminator ?

IMO, Arnold is too old but on the other hand I can't imagine a Terminator movie w/o him ( like an Indian Jones w/o Ford ). This is a Kafkaesque situation..

There are so many ways you could spin the story but almost none of the ideas here are likely what they'll do.

Arnold can be in the movie, that I have no problem with. It's the role that can potentially suck. Make him a robot? No. Make him famous? No. Make him John Connor's (great) grandfather? Not likely (this brings up the question how Sarah doesn't recognize him, at all). Make him a scientist? Fine. A cameo as some other person? Better.

Or he can just be a battle-weary human soldier who works with John Connor.

As just another human who works with Connor that brings up how he would become the model for the Terminator and why Connor doesn't recognize this guy. Being a reboot though means they can probably scrape by with the human replaced by the robot but it still leaves a lot to be desired in plausibility.

As much as I would love to see Arnold in this film, I really don't see a way to have him in this and not contradict things from the first two films in some way.

How about a cameo of a battered T-800 being destroyed by an adult John Connor during the war in the future?

Considering how one of the complaints that I kept hearing about Salvation was that it just wasn't the same without Arnold and that his absence really stood out, then I doubt that him merely cameoing would be enough for many people, it'd just be disappointing. He doesn't have to be in the thick of the action all the time, but he needs to be an actual part of the movie.
