Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5

I don't see how a new Terminator movie can be any good, the last one was forgettable, Arnold is too old to play the part ( IMO ) and w/o him it will fail like and Indian Jones movie w/o Ford. Remains Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn or Stahl. Just end it here, start a new saga with other characters but set in the same universe ( like the new alien ) or a follow up to the Chronicle of Sarah Connor TV Show.

I've got kind of an odd idea, and I'll probably get flamed for it.

What if they just don't have Sarah, John, or Reese in this movie AT ALL? Like, just don't include the Connor storyline. In my mind, that story is done. The chicken is cooked. They've gone backwards in time, forwards, sideways, in the 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s - it's 4 decades of Connor stories, and they couldn't possibly do anything else that's actually interesting. Why not just grow some creativity and give us some new characters for a change? This franchise could literally go in a million directions - it's about time travel and robots, which is such a creative concept with endless possibilities, yet they wrote themselves into a corner with three characters.

Secondly, the only way I see Arnold logically being in this movie (since he's old as dirt, and a robot looking like he's 65 wouldn't make sense), just have Arnold play a human being. And he would be playing the human who is the basis for the machines. Scientists could run tests on him, probe him, do experiments (kind of like Captain America), and maybe the story takes a turn for the worse and Arnold is being experimented on violently. Like, they're going to kill him and use his body parts for tests. Arnold could be the protagonist, the person we LIKE and who we are rooting for. He could have a family and we could see their relationship in flashbacks - like RoboCop. These scientists could literally turn Arnold into a bloodly creature who's half-man, half-robot like RoboCop or Inspector Gadget, just before he dies. And before he dies, we see a regular Human Arnold fighting himself, fighting Robot Arnolds.

I mean, to me, that sounds like a badass Schwarzenegger movie.

I can see that argument. It's a movie that at its core is about humanity surviving and overcoming an apocaplyse wrought by machines but it narrowed into one family: The Connors. We can see other, unrelated characters we've never seen live through it from their perspective. That's one part we haven't seen: The immediate aftermath of the attack and the survivors struggling to get away and form resistance groups. John Connor can be a voice in the background on the radio or even cameo'd but we don't have to have him present.

On the other hand I can see a lot of people just knee-jerk reacting with a "No!" to that concept and thinking it would be bad before they even read a synopsis and that this is the story of the Connors surviving Judgement Day.

I'd prefer Arnold NOT be a Terminator....but be the soldier the original Terminator design was based off of. He's still alive and a general in the resistance.

That works, and it's simply and intuitive enough that it might actually happen.

Still, I *highly* doubt they'll cut the Connors out completely. It's far more likely we'll see a Reese as the sidekick ala Salvation rather than just drop the heart of the franchise altogether. Heart transplants don't always go so well, especially in films.

I sort of like where your going with this.

I like the idea of Arnold being in this, I just really wonder if it can work. I agree with some of you that the best way is probably to make Arnold a human in this, maybe the basis for the Terminator.

Arnold playing a human in this series and finally finding out the reason&person that Arnold's Terminators are based on(was done in T3 But it's in a deleted scene an so not really part of canon)would be.....Would be fresh/original enough/could be fun and make sense for Arnold's current age&look!

Arnold could still be a bad-ass scientist or old general,Would be great to see how John Connor would interact with him,They could have more T1 Arnold prototypes(from Salvation)fighting against Arnold's character&John again!!!

Talking about John Connor..I understand IF they want to change T3&Salvation's time-line by more time-travel,But I'm still hoping for Bale to return as John(even IF a cameo)!!

Reminds me of that old SNES game Robocop vs Terminator. I remember having to fight Skynet at the end and winning.

It felt a little like John Conner was being sidelined in the previous two movies. I would rather see him as the main character front and centre.

We have heard through out the franchise how John Conner is going to be this badass leader so now I think they should actully show that.

they should do a superhero movie. their scifi movies should be original . look at D9 and Source Code
Duncan Jones was one of the guys on Chris Nolans shortlist for Superman directors but Jones didn't think he was ready for such a big scale movie.

Duncan Jones also met with Fox about directing Wolverine and was seen wearing a Wolverine T-shirt while promoting Source Code.

It seems Hollywood execs are definetly intrested in Duncan Jones directing a superhero movie and his a comic book fan so I wouldn't be surprised if he directs one in the future.

God, I can't imagine how he could ever fit into this movie at his age...He would have to take on some sort of scientist role--the man who created the T-100 in his own image sort of thing..

I'd like to see Reese...but I think Arnold's character and Reese shouldn't get along. They relucantly work together.

I'd expect him to be in motion capture, and have him fixed up as per Salvation.

if it's a sequel to salvation, a proper sequel, I'd like to see the humans really pushed to the point of extinction, and have the turning tide in the war be the capture of a terminator factory... that only produces arnolds.

and what I'd love to see in a finale for the franchise's main narrative, is Reese, and a number of commandos and 3 captured arnold type terminators enter the time displacement facility (a team consisting of superior officer robert patrick, and tech girl Kristana Loken) who get get killed and replaced along the way through skynets ultimate research facility (where experimental terminators are being developed). 2 arnold termies are sent back to stop the t1000 and TX, and the last after being messed with by the TX, needs to be chased back through time by Reese. Something like that.

I agree..I'd like more of the salvation timeline.

That movie is way underrated.

Since the T-800 was first developed in Salvation I wonder if more liquid metal is going to be used to combat the Resistance.

‘Terminator’ Rights Holder Sends Cease And Desist Letter To Kill Proposed 3D Animated Feature

From The Arnold Fans:
Exclusive: Fate of New Terminator Film with Annapurna and Arnold!
Randy Jennings said:
In August of 2010, we shared with you the news that an all-new Terminator animated film called Terminator 3000 was possibly in the works. Sadly, we had not heard many details about this project nor had we heard any new progress reports…until now! TheArnoldFans tracked down Hannover House’s president and T3K developer, Eric Parkinson, to get the answers. If this film gets the green-light we can expect it to have a CG animation style similar to James Cameron’s Avatar!

As many of you know, Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Productions are now the current holders of the Terminator license; however, we fans are pulling our hair out waiting and waiting for them to make an announcement of a new feature film. It’s been nearly a year since they acquired the rights, and we Terminator fans, in dire need of a new, well-made film, are left with the bitter taste of McG’s disaster. Will Annapurna Productions bring new life to the franchise? Before we get into it, check out this nice piece of art we obtained from Hannover House, created to pitch the film. This is not final art but their current title treatment.

Parkinson: “It’s in the time being in the hands of Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Productions, whether or not they want to proceed. We reached out to them, communicated with her council and expressed our outline with the basic story structure with the proposed principal creative team and how it can be financed and how Annapurna Productions can make a lot of money with upfront licensing. But there are issues at play that I am not privy to. I think that most people are aware of how long this ticking bomb that this Terminator licensing exists before it goes back to James Cameron.”

The rights are said to go back to Cameron in 2018, six years from now, and it’s more than likely, once they do, that he will not want to return to the franchise, much like not having a desire to do another True Lies film.

Schwarzenegger and Terminator fans really don’t understand why Annapurna Productions wouldn’t want to move right away with such a world-renowned licensing title as Terminator. Most important of all, I have just learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger himself is aware of this project and has expressed his interest if Annapurna Productions wants to move forward.

Parkinson: “I had the opportunity to talk about it with Arnold at the MidCOM Market, when they announced his proposed cartoon series (The Governator). So I was there and he remembered me from Hemdale and I told him, I am still trying to develop an animated thing (T3K), but that’s about when the bad news came out. But my feeling is, he is and will always be one of the biggest stars in the world. I think he’d do the voice of the T-800 in this proposed Terminator 3000."

“We’re excited about it, and we think it makes perfect sense and with all due respect to Arnold, I think this would be another great and quick way for him to get another movie out with just a short time in a recording studio.”

Along with Parkinson, I too believe that an animated feature film with CG characters in an all-out ballsy future war would be the best solution to dealing with Arnold’s age. Schwarzenegger was in his 30s when he starred in the original Terminator, and now he is 64. Unless Annapurna Productions wants to just produce a Terminator film with Arnold playing a human resistance soldier, personally, I would rather the Austrian Oak do more Jee-woon Kim movies over playing a mid-sixties Terminator. Better yet, maybe Megan Ellison will put out TWO Terminator films: one live action and one animated (T3K).

The Hanover House CEO tells TAFs how he is ready to deal with the aging issues.

Parkinson: “Oh certainly, we can create a character of him in his absolute peak. What we have in mind is something very similar to what Cameron utilized in Avatar in that we would use motion capture to create the base files of the bulk performers, including The Terminator. But yeah, it would be more of a 3D style motion capture proposed to live actors.”

Eric Parkinson hopes to soon have a live audience with Annapurna Productions to work out a deal and get the fans a Terminator film to be proud of once again.

Parkinson: “We were hoping to have a presentation last week in Los Angeles, but the schedules just didn’t work out. Will I ever be granted an audience to present this concept? Well, that’s up to the Terminator gods.”

“We have a good outline. We have a great story, and we potentially don’t want to turn it into a script now, because there’s going to be some creative input and we don’t want to paint ourselves into a corner and say, no, we envision it a different way. But we’ve got a pretty good framework for what we think will work. Who knows if this concept fits their overall plan for the franchise? Personally, I think it’s kicks-ass and would be a boost to the Terminator brand by introducing a new generation of viewers.”

I didn’t push Eric at this time about the plot, because it’s too soon and I think we should all embrace the current mystery. It’s quite possible he wants Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong back, and wouldn’t that be a perfect world with their voices and CG-rendered likenesses fighting T-800s, armies of endoskeletons, HKs and the rest of Skynet’s most deadly.

Terminator 3000 is all being created on spec and is subject to the approval and license of Annapurna Productions to proceed. They continue to seek a meeting and a license with them, and like Eric Parkinson said, it’s in the hands of the Terminator gods.

TheArnoldFans certainly hopes Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Productions will listen to the fans and grant us a new Terminator film. They have one of the most financially successful franchises under lock and key. You can hold a Terminator down only so long until he breaks the chains and is on the rise. A new Terminator film in the vein of Avatar animation with Arnold’s voice? Bring it! Keep in mind this would not be an oddly modeled Schwarzenegger head as seen in T4 (created by a sculpted bust). Parkinson wants the actors scanned for CG likeness perfection.

I have one final thing to add before I give my blessing on any new Terminator film: the T-800 Schwarzenegger character MUST be bad! NO MORE protectors (the reason T3 was not a bigger success). Only when Arnold returns to his killing machine roots will it excite audiences again. This includes T3K. IF the current outline has only a protector T-800, make sure he turns bad and stays that way. As Arnold’s shirt says, “Born to be Bad!” Never should a Terminator know why we cry and fight with conflicting emotions. Let the bodies hit the floor, and let Annapurna Productions become self-aware of their potential gold mine.

I'd love to see Arnold back as an evil T-800 again. He's still an incredibly menacing and chill-inducing villain in the original movie.

I read that in the extended Terminator universe that the machines modeled the
T-800 after a great human warrior (soldier) who was Arnold.

I would like to see the movie him being the human and him being killed by the machines then showing Skynet making the T-800 obviously a young Arnold not old.

Terminator should have ended in 1991. It's a zombie franchise. The third movie was terrible and completely unnecessary. The last movie was forgettable at best.

Either start something new (if you have to) or leave it alone.

Personally I'd prefer they just make a RoboCop Vs. Terminator film with Arnold and Peter Weller back in their roles. Both are still in reasonable shape to do it. I wish it would've been made back in the 90s instead of T3 and (shudder) RoboCop 3.

A recent tweet from Megan Ellison, the producer who currently holds the rights to the franchise:

@terminatorfans We can't really tell you guys anything about Terminator BUT it will be an R rated film as God and James Cameron intended.
