Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5

While I am happy they are creating a new continuity, I am not fully thawed on the writing team. Lussier has a filmography of hits and misses.

If they are making it a reboot, why include Schwarzenegger? The point of a reboot is to start fresh.

Edit to my last post: he edited some good films. As for writing...eh...

I am happy about this news. I just feel the other's became too convoluted. Terminator has a great universe to share, and sadly the first two were the only ones that did it justice. I really hope they do well with this.

A cameo would be fine, like how they used his likeness in Salvation but smaller.

I wonder what direction they do intend to go with a reboot. A total "it never happened/got erased" retelling or a splinter universe ala Star Trek.

Either way would be interesting. I would prefer just "never happened".

But man this brings back memories lol. T3.com right Carn? The one thing that gives me hope is Megan. She seems to create really high quality film, and seems to understand it. She fought hard to get these rights, and to me she has a passion for it. This is the first good news I've heard.

They are going to make these anyways, regardless of what we want. So to me a reboot is the way to go rather then a tacked on sequel.

Personally I was always expecting a reboot sooner or later. I'm finding it hard to be angry about Reboots anymore. I just ignore them and or hope for the best when I see them.

If they are going to reboot schwarzenegger needs to be dropped from film. You don't reboot and have star of series still Involved.

The terminator as people knew It Is dead.

I've never really cared if something is a reboot, or sequel 17, what matters in the end is quality. Even with original IP's. To me I don't really care if something is original or just a reboot/sequel what matters always to me is the quality in the end. I've seen original IP's that just suck, and sequels/reboots that are terrible as well.

So as you said I hope for the best. And I think with Megan, she will try really really hard to get a high quality film. This now is on my radar with Episode VII and Interstellar. On one hand it can't be as bad as TS. But I hope they plan the trilogy out better in terms of timeline ect. There has been some great reboots in the past 8 years, from Begins, to Casino Royale, to STO9. So here's hoping for that kind of quality.

I have a theory that all film journalism websites have a prewritten template that just says "____________ is being rebooted to be set as a trilogy" and just fill in all the blanks with the films title and stars.

A new trilogy? Eh. I wasn't fond of the trilogy talk when Salvation came out, and it's back for real.

A reboot is definitely the way to do. Another sequel would just be a waste of time, energy and money. The 4 pre-existing films already don't mesh well together. Imagine yet another sequel with super-old, way-past-his-prime Arnold. I just shuddered thinking about it.

Hopefully now, we can have this new "trilogy" be its own complete saga, starting over fresh...a total re-imagining of an iconic franchise. They should follow the model of Nolan's TDK trilogy -- make great films with grand spectacle that each stand on their own, but also mesh well together as a trilogy. I want new twists, new turns, and NOT just a rehash of T1 and T2 with updated special effects. Give us something NEW that is true to the theme and ideals of Cameron's original films.

If they decide on a quasi-reboot a la Superman Returns, count me out.

A high quality director that I like is going to be key to sparking my interest. No more McG types, not to pick on him because he is decent at action but I don't think he was the right director for Terminator. I'd like an out of the box choice personally.

Agreed for most. If they did do something kinda like Trek I would forgive it more but would prefer a fresh start.

Agreed.

Yeah, I could deal with a Trek style reboot. It is a series about time travel afterall.

You know I'm not going to bother with that. How about TR (R for Reboot)?

I'm for a reboot, but i'd want a fresh take as opposed the Star Trek alternate timeline route. It worked well with Star Trek but I think it would make things even more convoluted for the Terminator saga.

Now if they're just bringing Arnold back to play a different character in a reboot new series , I'd be okay with that.

I hope they do include the future in the story as well as time travelling to different eras
