Arnold Schwarzenegger Returning For The Legend of Conan

I know this may not be the place to ask this but does anyone know why the Hype's resident Conan fanatic CHICKENSCRATCH got banned? I lurked here for a couple of years and he was always... Intense shall we say. Anybody got an idea?

Check the recently banned threads. He had some not nice things to say about a certain director's sexuality. In a very offensive way.

Ok. Thanks. I hope he can change for the better in the future. Sorry to derail the thread with that question. So... Um.... Conan. What's his deal? :yay:

He's definitely a far ways away from that newspaper caricature.

Now, whose ass do I have to kiss to get Verhoeven behind the camera?

If we got Verhoeven as director...that'd open up the possibility of Carice Van Houten playing Conan's ****ty daughter.

Make it happen Hollywood!!

My issue with Chickenscratch was how intolerable he was. He's like this Type A Purist that wouldn't budge for anybody.

Not to say being a purist is bad, but you gotta give some leeway when it comes to stuff like James Bond, a property that has clearly transcended it's original medium (with the author's cooperation back in the day).

Being stubborn isn't going to give you any brownie points.

Kinda shocked that this hasn't been posted here yet:

‘Legend Of Conan’ Lands Andrea Berloff To Script Arnold Schwarzenegger Epic Reprise

EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures has taken a step forward on the reboot of The Legend Of Conan, which will bring Arnold Schwarzenegger back as the brawny king. The studio has closed a deal with Andrea Berloff to write the script. Best known for scripting World Trade Center, Berloff most recently adapted the French action film Sleepless Night for Warner Bros. She also wrote Straight Outta Compton for New Line and is writing a retelling of the King Arthur myth for Disney.

The franchise got a fresh start last October, when Universal and Schwarzenegger got involved, largely because of the passion of Chris Morgan, the scribe/producer who has minted money at the studio writing Fast & The Furious films. He was the one who decided to draw a parallel right back to the original raw, violent Conan films, which ended with the image of the barbarian king sitting atop his throne. The new film is about his efforts to stay there and the final cycle of a life spent obliterating anyone who got in his way. The Legend Of Conan is being produced by Fredrik Malmberg through Paradox Entertainment and Morgan & Emile Gladstone through their Chris Morgan Productions banner. Paradox owns the rights to the Robert E. Howard series, and we’re going to have to give them a mulligan on that ill-advised movie done with Jason Momoa. They are going back to Schwarzenegger, whose career as Hollywood’s top action star was launched by the 1982 Conan The Barbarian, which John Milius directed from a visceral script he wrote with Oliver Stone. That film hatched a 20-minute live action stage show at Universal Studios Hollywood that ran for a decade, and clearly the hope is to re-brand a movie franchise with all the ancillaries that come with success. It’s a big step for Schwarzenegger, who hasn’t exactly crushed it in his attempts so far to reestablish himself as an A-lister after leaving office as the governor of California. Reprises in Conan and The Terminator are his best hopes to get the action mojo back.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Chris and his creative team and to see Arnold Schwarzenegger return in the role that started his career,” said Malmberg. Morgan called Berloff “an amazing writer who can juggle masculine grittiness with extreme emotional depth. Her take on Conan is powerful and genuine and would make Robert E. Howard proud.” Uni co-president of production Jeff Kirschenbaum

This thing needs either a talented young gun that shows the promise of being able to handle a project like this or a director with a proven track record. And they need to not shy away from Conan/Arnolds age at all. Make this Conan's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. Go all out and crazy with violence, nudity and sex. If you gotta WILD BUNCH the ending, so be it. Just make sure Conan takes as many of the bastards with him as he can. "...and if you do not listen... DEN DA HELL VIT CHU!!"

I hope the PRODUCTION DESIGNER takes it seriously. Cuz Mamoa's film came off as cheap looking as DESTROYER did, yet at least that film has the excuse of being decades old.

I say if you want the final chapter of Arnold's Conan trilogy to be as dark, gritty, and epic looking as the first installment, bring John Milius back as director. Whether you love him or hate him, you gotta admit that he knocked it out of the park with the '82 Conan The Barbarian.

Milius had a stroke that rendered him unable to speak or even write. He's recovered since then, but he's not at 100%. And probably won't be.

Seriously? Because if that's true, then that's too bad. Dino De Laurentis made a HUGE mistake in not bringing Milius back for Destroyer, and we wound up with a bad buddy action/comedy instead of another movie of epic greatness like the first movie.

Well, I hope that whoever is brought in to direct this movie at least TRIES to recapture the magic that made the first film so great. Don't halfass it like the people who made the Mamoa film did.

From your keyboard to Zod's screen. :woot:

I've just heard a rumor that Gerry Lopez might be reprising his role of Subotai in this movie. I don't know if that's true, buit it would be a nice addition.

Yeah I don't think this movie is going to happen anymore.

You think a studio is going to sink another $200 million into a senior Arnold vanity project?

When push came to shove, Paramount opted to reboot Terminator instead of doing another sequel with Arnold.

Except unlike Mamoa's film, Destroyer was actually entertaining.

As bad as Destroyer was compared to Barbarian, it was miles ahead of that garbage passed off to us as a Conan film starring the wooden Mamoa.

Say what you want about Destroyer, but it was damn funny film. Arnold looked like he was having fun. Doesn't hold a candle to the first film, but an entertaining yarn none the less.

I enjoy Destroyer for what it is, and it is a fun movie but Arnold reportedly hated the fact that it was a toned down PG-13 and was not happy with the final product and in the end that's why the film didn't do as well as the first.

Which, supposedly, he's going to be in.
Supposedly not. His name was nowhere in the announcement by Paramount.

If he was set to star in it as originally planned, why wouldn't they announce that? He ain't in it.

You're right, his name is nowhere to be found here, but that doesn't mean he's not involved.

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.
The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.
Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.
Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.

It's a franchise reboot. He's not in it. They are starting their own trilogy from scratch.

So this project, Conan 3. They are in no rush to make it. Arnold's not getting any younger.
