Comedy Arrested Development - Part 1

The show just feels...off though doesnt it? I rewatched season 3 to prep for this and man the chemistry and comedic timing between the actors was just all perfectly in sync then. Here though, maybe its the writing but the repartee between the cast feels flaccid even though you can clearly tell they're making an effort to recapture it.

I dunno, anyone else feel that way?
Yeah. I mean I still enjoyed it but not on the level of previous seasons. Like, the 1st 3 seasons literally made AD my favorite TV show of all-time. If they were more on the level of this season, it would still be a show I'd watch and enjoy, but not nearly an all-time fave.

I could only watch the 1st 2 episodes of the new season and had to stop it's become too self-aware.

Yeah, I think the time has passed for this show. You can literally feel them trying to re-capture past glories. It's all too forced now.

It's also weird how Porita De Rossi is just green screened in a lot. And it's very obvious.

I kinda agree I think the time passed on the show. The chemistry isn't even as good as it was

She's talking to Lucielle but only the back of her head is in frame and it's clearly someone else in a wig. It looks so bad.

Could Portia not schedule filming with the rest of the cast?

Filming started in August 2017 and she had no film/tv projects that would've clashed with that, so I don't know.

I guess she decided to focus on her business ventures and couldn't give them a full commitment.

She retired from acting and probably didn't want to fly out to shoot. She had to be talked into the 5 episodes that she will appear in
Or maybe she wanted to spend time with family or friends.

It might be time to just call it quits then and end the show. Hopefully the second set of episodes they release puts a cap on everything.

Doesn't she live in LA with Ellen DeGeneres?

Either **** or get off the pot.

The amount of recapping and time-hopping is ridiculous. The actors (mostly) still have it, but the writing (and presumably editing) clearly never recovered post-revival.

So, how is the first half of S5 so far?

It's very middling to awful. Doesn't even feel like Arrested Development. Now that I think about it, season 4 was average at best.

why did they even do a season 5? I can't imagine so many were dying for it after season 4

disappointed to hear that season 5 is bad so far haven't had time to see for myself but I hope it's good never really needed a season 5

I finally finished the season...it wasn't BAD. It had its moments. I noticed a trend where each episode would have moments where it would drag and then there would be a genuinely laugh out loud moment and then drag again and laugh out loud again. The show definitely lost its impeccably paced comedic timing it had in its heyday. The writing isn't nearly as good, the actors don't have the same energy they used to and the pacing and storytelling is just downright confusing sometimes. That said, I think it got better after episode 3 and started to find a..."groove" of sorts. I'm still curious to watch part 2 when it comes out, but its time for this to end. Here's hoping part 2 puts a cap on the Bluth family in a satisfying way.

It was a good season. But still nowhere near seasons 1-3. George Michael and Maeby were the ones that got the most laughs out of me. And Ron Howard.

Hope the next half of the season is a bit better with less recap.

So far, I am not finding this season as good as the other ones, including S4! Last season at least had stand out episodes with Gob, Buster and Tobias.

Hoping the second half is better!

For me Season 5 is equal to Season 4 and both are okay IMO.
Maebes Haircut is pure Horror...

I'm halfway through the new season. It's...okay. The best thing I can say about it is it's nice to see everyone (mostly) back together again and not split up like in season 4, but it feels like nobody really wants to be there except for Will Arnett.

Anything with Kyle Mooney in it is not good and he's in it.

Even Will Arnett felt off to me.
