It's comforting to know that if ever I feel down I can come to this thread and no matter what I always feel better about myself and have a good laugh. Please, DJ, I beg of you to keep it up so these guys can just keep ripping you new ones.

yes, saying that im anti-gay is wrong, but saying "guys can just keep ripping you new ones." and "He must have like 5 or 6 now.".

and im sorry, could you tell me one more time, because i cant really read your first post.

That sentence doesn't even make sense; it's like somebody chopped off the tail end.

And all this from the guy coming here bragging how good he is.

no all this came because you guys cant take a joke, when i wrote "just kidding" in my first post.

it's WilHelm, and cool, I loved your post above.
You know what? I just saw that he's 17, so it's cool. I shudder when I think back on my unfounded arrogance and cluelessness when I was a teen. I'm sure he'll grow out of it and his art will improve in a few years.

It's kind of like me with guitar. In the 80's I was a teenager and was a phenomenally gifted guitarist. Back then it was all about how fast and accurately you could play...if you could play every Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmstein or Steve Vai solo flawlessly, or how mind-bendingly complex your arrangements were.

Older fans of my band would tell me how much they liked my stuff, but they'd always mention things like "getting into the groove" and "less is more" and how great "slowhand" Clapton was and how B.B. King could wring more emotion out of one note than the flashy guys could with a hundred. This was preposterous bulls*** to me at the time.

And I "KNEW" that it was just that they were jealous, or felt threatened by my musical genius, that they just couldn't stand the fact that I was a demi-god and they weren't, so they subconsciously wanted to take me down a notch, and I hated all the "old classics" they'd always refer to.

Now I'm older and agree with almost everything they said ( and wish I could find them and thank them and let them know that their lessons were eventually learned ) and it took me years to shed my insecure "LOOK AT ME! I'M THE BEST YOU'LL EVER SEE! I BLOW ALL OF THE OTHERS OUT OF THE WATER!" competitive style of playing and to actually get into composition and feel, and self-expression and real emotion and worry more about enjoying the music than whether or not I'd get voted best local guitarist again in all the local music mags.

Now I can't even listen to the old "impressive" stuff I played back then, it's like the opposite of what I developed/matured into musically. I'd much rather be Jack White than Steve Vai now.

But of course, If I went back in time and told my teenaged self that, my teenaged self would think I was full of it.

So I'll cut him some slack on account of youth. :)

Must say though, when he made that blanket statement: "I'm better than Frazetta"...whoo....wanted to reach through and slap him.

nicely stated, I remember being 17, winning every art prize in my school, never failed an art class and thought I was it. I went to college and got a hell of a wake up call, and learned that there was a s**t load I still needed to be taught. And everything I knew was thrown out and useless.

I’m 23 now have a diploma in the foundation of fine art, an HND in graphic design and am a year away from completing a bachelors degree in Art and Design. and various levels of qualifications in photography and I will still be learning new techniques till the day I die.

On the subject of photography not being art, have you ever tried to take an actual photo, no not a snap shot and actual artistic photograph. Working out light, shadows, depth of field, shutter speed, angle, reflection, composition and such, it isn’t easy and take a great deal of time, skill and patience

the art world is a fickle place, and there will always and I repeat always be something on this dirt ball we call a planet that does this thing called art better than you

I never won any art prizes in school, but I was the type that never entered them. In college, and yeah that's an art college, I came out of my shell more. I have a Bachelor's degree and double majored in Graphic Design & Fine Art. Photography, real photography, is definatly an art medium.

?? i never said i was the best, that was a joke, do you not understand the concept of a joke.

obviously going to college didnt do enough for you.

and i dont care about your life story either, so make your own thread.
and yes photography is art, but its been raped to death by most people who call themselves "photographers" (i.e. punks, emos).

i didnt read that either, because yo mamma!

and if you havent realized this, the frazetta comment was a joke. i think i used sarcasm...wonder what that word means?

Obviously college did do it's job as I have a full time Design job and an Illustration job on the side, and a respective appreciation to most mediums of art (though I'm still not fond of the "found art" medium). Oh wait, according to you, this is all just stuff my mommy told me.

And you evidently didn't pay attention. I mentioned when you first stated those "jokes" I took them as jokes. But when you're bragging about your work being better than everyone else on a fan art board, you're making offenses, not jokes.

Also, that last post I made wasn't even directed to you, it was to the other posters who managed to say something intelligent. And I do have my own thread.

Frankly, I'm not sure who I find more idiotic in this thread. DJ Blaster for saying the things he does, or the rest of you for falling victim of what I'm sure was him TRYING to get you all upset. He's loving this. Everytime you guys post with "OMG NO! FRAZETTA IS A QUALITY CREATOR OF BLAH BLAH BLAH" you just fuel his fire.

Props to you, DJ.

Oh, and... I do like Alex Ross, but he's overrated. So is Jim Lee. Screw Jim Lee. He sucks.

shhh! dont tell them!

madmaximus: college (at least for me) is a place where hopefully people go to improve, not just get a job. And if the quality of your art looks like that after college, i just might not go to college.

while i agree with the amount of urk-hai in this thread, i disagree with the lack of cats wearing frog hats.

You're complaining about him talking about getting a job....when you have started at least 3 seperate threads stating you are available for work...and advertise in your signature?

Yes, I looked through your past posts....and you seem to have started out as a decent poster. But sometime in the last year you have become mean to your fellow posters here at the Hype (and very recently become enamored of the term - your momma - that's classy)...and now act very arrogant and do seem to be spoiling for an argument.

I do hope that the people in college treat you better than you have been treating the Hypsters here.

Art is more about composition and content...creation, than technique. You learn technique because it's a tool that enables you to create visual representations of intangible imagery that forms in your mind's eye. Art is not about some contest of prowess. You make art sound like an Olympic event where the merit of a piece can be judged empirically as if by a stop watch at a 100 meter dash.

^ this is hilarious, i just read it. now I know where modern art comes from.

Yeah...cause it was so cleverly hidden he wasn't trying....I can smell antagonizers when they're around. I just personally love batting back and forth at them. I find it fun.

And yes, I learned quite a bit in College, things I never would've tried before because I wouldn't thought them as just boring, such as oil painting and designing on a computer, as well as actually critiquing work. I don't do much critiquing on-line, because I don't want to upset people who may take it the wrong way. I didn't study design to get a job, I studied it because I was having fun playing around in it. I wasn't the "best" at my school, nor did I try or claim to be. And I know you can learn things too. And thanks for the oh-so credible critique on my work. You brought tears to my eyes. Really, you did. *sniffle*

Well, personally, I'm ready to see some more stuff from almighty DJ!
