Assassin's Creed Unity may be one of two Assassin's Creed games releasing this fall. Unity, according to Kotaku, will release on Xbox One and PS4, and is set at least partially in 18th century Paris. The other, codenamed Comet, will release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Early screenshots obtained by Kotaku showcase Parisian locales such as Notre Dame and the Seine River, as well as a new male assassin adorned in a black uniform, brandishing a rapier, and holstering at least one pistol. Also notable is the button interface, which introduces a new "parkour up" and "parkour down" navigation system.

Oh sweet. A lot of people have been asking for a France locale. Can't wait to see more.

I like the logo has a guillotine cut in the middle of it.

I'll need to see more, I've been asking for the French Revolution forever so I'll pick it up on those grounds alone but the loss of the pirating stuff definitely means they need to bring something new to the table to avoid being looked at as a step down.

Consider me bored.

The appeal of the series for me has always been exploring historical locations. Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice and Istanbul have some of the greatest architecture in the world. Even if the rest of the game is flat, there's at least the novelty of exploring a historic city again. That's more than can be said of AC3. Liberation and AC4 interest me but I'm waiting on a sale.

YES! YES! YES!

Called it and been asking for a French Revolution AC since the end of AC2.

Even though the era and tech is the same as AC3 and AC4, it'll be great to get back to a sprawling, ancient urban environment instead of the wild frontiers of America and the Caribbean. I love AC3 and AC4, and even Liberation, but there's something to be said for the sheer beauty and romance of parkour-ing and assassin-ing your way through a gorgeous city like Rome, Venice, Florence, Constantinople and, now, Paris.

*Edit: speculation about the other "Comet" game --- maybe that one's medieval Japan...? Revolutionary France and Medieval Japan seem to have been the two fan favorites for the next AC installment....maybe Ubi's giving us the best of both worlds.

ATLAST!!! :DV: I've been wanting this for awhile now, so happy it's finally happening. This game is going to look beautiful when done, looking forward to getting more details/pics. Arnaud (spelled Arno here) is a great name. Bring it.

I thought it was that their solution to cross-gen is that they would simply develop the game differently for PS4/X1 vs PS3/360 and were handling them separately as a result.

This. Couldn't even get myself to finish AC3, stale and formulaic gameplay and an increasingly convoluted narrative killed the franchise for me.

Not sure why they felt the need to keep Ezio's arc going so long besides a cash grab, it really over-saturated the AC experience.

Yea thats what iv heard. Since rumors started leaking iv kept hearing there were two separate games in development. One current gen, one next gen.

Also, are these just code names or are these side stories? Is this ACV?

That's been the highlight of the series since he's been the most likable protagonist and one of the most well-written characters in video games recently. One of the major complaints of AC3 was the character of Connor.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed the similarities between the Assassin's A and Mason's compass?

Thats prob not an accident. Ubi most likely used historical references when coming up with the logo for their franchise.

Not likely, given the amount of resources it takes to make an AC game. "Comet" will be a companion game to Unity, much like Bloodlines was for AC 1 and Liberations was for AC 3.

Its too soon to tell since neither game has been officially confirmed yet, but I suspect Comet will be a side story with Unity being the next sequel, whether it bears V in the title or not. I love the idea of going to Paris, but its too bad they didn't stick around with the Kenway family for at least one more game. I actually wouldn't have minded a sequel to AC III, which actually used your game save. Like if you got al the settlers in the Homestead and did those missions, they'd pop and you'd get certain missions in the new game. I actually liked Connor so I wouldn't have minded revisiting him or even having him just be a strong supporting character to a new assassin protagonist. It could actually be cool if they ever did a game where a protagonist returned to serve the role of mentor to the next guy. Connor training and doing that for someone could have been an interesting concept or even Edward if they went a few years after IV

Yeah, the Freemason connection was explored a good bit in some of the puzzles in AC2, and IIRC, even touched on in AC3. A lot of the Founding Fathers were known Freemasons. Plus, Freemasonry plays a big role in the iconography of the French Revolution as well, so I suspect we'll see more hints of that in Unity.

Wonder what the Parkour Up and Parkour Down mean? Or is that just a placeholder title?

Also hope sword sheaths come back. Don't know why they took those out after the orig AC

Here's hoping they embrace the utter chaos of the French Kingdom/Republic/Empire during this time period. And here's hoping we get to see multiple factions of both the Templars and Assassins. I'd love a game where the player doesn't know which characters he can trust and has to choose who to follow and support. This is the age of Fouche and Talleyrand, after all, and I've long suspected they've been leading up to an anti-heroic Templar character, and storyline-wise, an Assassin/Templar alliance remains the largest unexplored possibility, and with Juno wrecking up the place, there's no better way to integrate a possible alliance then to use similar circumstances in the past.

Yes, this will do nicely. I'm already getting hyped. :D

Good point. Might be where the "Unity" comes in, between Assassin and Templar.

I like the look. I am game after Black Flag being the best in the series by far.

Not to pile on or anything, but I was just looking at those screenshots again, and...man. I don't think there have ever been screenshots that sold me less on a game than those. The game looks bland as hell based on those images. The color is very drab and washed out, there's nothing really interesting going on, the main character is just kind of standing around, etc. I mean, damn, even the name; "Assassin's Creed Unity". It couldn't sound any more boring if they tried.

I might be projecting a bit based on my distaste for what the series became after ACII, but compared to the fresh and freewheeling Black Flag, this just looks like the same old **** as before, except... France.

I'll remain open-minded and reserve judgement until it's officially announced and they release a trailer or something, but for now I couldn't care less about this and I eagerly await news of the piratey spin-off they're considering.

Those are early build shots. But ACIV will be hard to top IMO. I loved that setting

love the French setting. already much more interesting than pirates......lol.

but, for once, it would be nice if we could play as a female assassin in the main game.
