nice to see that internet fans know better how to spend money on a hollywood blockbuster then del Toro himself.

Maybe you would just love to see your lover's fully funded dream project kill the genre for the next decade?
He's an innovative filmmaker, he's stretched money before and he could do it again. Others have done it even more successfully. Saying "We must build a giant city in antartica and shoot on location for 7 months and also pay Tom Cruise 15 million dollars and I will accept no other alternatives" is not the way to get something done. Limitations breed creativity.
Oh, and wake up, Del Toro is an internet fan.
Correct! And for people like Cruise and Del Toro I really do have to wonder why the hell they sit around demanding millions of dollars in fees. I really have to hand it to George Clooney, he wanted to make some movies so he, being a multi millionare already, paid himself a dollar and then made a few ****ing movies. Does Cruise need any more money ever? No, he does not.
This is ****ING. REDICULOUS. He could bankroll this movie by himself for 200 million and not even give a ****.
I hope that del Toro goes with this route since he can't do At the Mountain of Madness with a huge scale that's David Lean-esque as he wanted then adapting a short story could still turn out to be something good. I think The Lurking Fear or The Dunwich Horror would be great choices.
But I just wikipedia'd that **** and apparently Cruise:
$100,000,000 for War of the Worlds (took a 20% gross participation instead of an upfront salary)
* $25,000,000 + gross participations for The Last Samurai
* $25,000,000 + gross participations for Minority Report
* $25,000,000 + gross participations for Vanilla Sky
* $75,000,000 in gross participations for Mission: Impossible II
* $70,000,000 in gross participations for Mission: Impossible
* $20,000,000 for Eyes Wide Shut
* $20,000,000 + 15% gross participations for Jerry Maguire
* $15,000,000 for Interview with the Vampire
* $13,000,000 for Far and Away
* $2,000,000 for Top Gun
This is ****ING. REDICULOUS. He could bankroll this movie by himself for 200 million and not even give a ****.
