At the Mountains of Madness - Guillermo Del Toro's Next Project!

FINALLY!!

I agree with Octoberist. This could very well be Del Toro's defintive English film. I love the book. I've loved just about all of Del Toro's ideas for how to handle the adaptation. It's awesome how James Cameron may have been the guy responsible for the go-ahead. However, I'm not a supporter of 3D, but regardless, I'm not sure how well the story lends itself to 3D. But in this case, i'm willing to make a deal with the devil. Do whatever, as long as Del Toro finally makes the damn movie.

I'm really looking forward to this. Universal needs to get on this NOW. I truly believe that this film will harken back to Universal's golden age of horror from the 1930's that they unsuccessfully attempted with The Wolfman. This is Universal's chance to say "Hey, we still give a damn about great horror."

Best news of the day. H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorite author (love this book but it's not my favorite of Lovecraft's) and I have a feeling Del Toro will do a great job capturing the mood and feeling of this book. Plus James Cameron is onboard as a producer, that's awesome.

which one is your favorite Lovecraft story?

Well... I don't know anymore...

Why? firstly you don't have to see it in 3D and Cameron coming on as a producer on a project like this with a budget this size for a film that is not commercailly bankable, is a good way to assure Del Toro gets to make it and most likely make it his way.

Well, "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" is very dear to me since it is the first Lovecraft novel I've read, but "The Tomb" even though is a short story, somehow connects to me when I've read finish it. Really a wonderful piece of work.

EDIT: Add "The Lurking Fear" too.

a lot dont know this but but when del Toro came to LA he was living in Camerons gues house. and when hes father in mexico was kidnapped Cameron helped him with the negotiators.

they know each other for over 10 years.

While I am not a big Cameron fan, I will say this. When his name is attached to a project, there is little to no studio interference. I want Del Toro to be able to go balls out. I was livid when he left The Hobbit. I'm happy to say that, in light of this news, it was definitely worth it. No question.

And just look at how happy Del Toro is in that picture. Puts a smile on my face.

I don't care for 3D (and if they're gonna shoot it in 3D how will it look in 2D? The coming-at-ya! stuff looks just ******ed), and I'm afraid Cameron might wanna push it to PG-13 which I don't want either.

Here del Toro speaks about the R-rating, and I hope he gets to stick to it. http://www.ew.com/ew/video/0,,20399...7042001&bclid=207616944001&bctid=292121098001

Only 3D movie I have seen is Avatar and I saw it in 2D and didn't find anything different to a regular 2D movie, I also don't see Cameron pushing Del Toro in any direction, if they are going into this together cards will be on the table beforehand, in fact without him this movie would never have the budget needed.

Well I hope so.

I always thought del Toro took the Hobbit job so he could finance ATMOM by himself with the salary and gross profits, but that's just my theory. + after the hypothetical success of the Hobbit films studio would have backed him up.

I've got the book somewhere I should read it. The closet movie to Lovecrafts work I feel was probably John Carpenters in the mouth of madness.

Isn't "Shadow over Innsmoth" the only novel Lovecraft has ever written? It's not even more of a novella. ;)

Great! Love GDT's script which I read some months ago!

Cameron's involvement should mean little to no studio interference, and he's smart enough to remain on the technical side of it and let del Toro do his thing.

Meanwhile JC will have to invent a Non-Euclidean camera system.:yay:

I love At the mountain of madness, really cool story and Del Toro is great for the job. Bring on the Cthulhu!

I would like this more if Cameron wasn't attached. Cameron has show that even with 15 years to do it he still can't tighten up a script. I hope he leave Del Toro alone & lets him do what he does waaaay better than Cameron.

If we are lucky Cameron is just be their to spit polish Guillermo's shoes.
