Well, at least he's not Mel Gibson. It's still possible to win people back for him.

I'd take GDT's opinion over Universal's.

Tom Cruise and madness are synonymous so how could they not choose him!

McAvoy is a far better actor.

no he is'nt lol

Cruise is just more mainstream

Cruise is by far the most underrated Actor in Hollywood imo

yup i am sure he got nominated for an Oscar not once not twice but 3 Times base on not having talent right?

Lets not turn this into a Cruise thing guys, I concur with you Project but Rac clearly doesn't like Cruise and will be upset if GDT gets his way, lets just leave it at that.

I'm certain my post wasn't invisible, lets try again.

I just wanna say that I prefer McAvoy over Cruise.

Tom Cruise circa Oprah's Couch, would definitely be an inspired casting choice. I just wonder if Del Toro will find a way to fit Perlman in there somewhere.

Also interested in whether or not WETA workshop/Digital will be involved, since Cameron worked with them on Avatar, and Del Toro worked with them during his time on the Hobbit. They would be the perfect guys to work on this, so I hope so.

Neither McAvoy or Cruise are how I've ever pictured Dyer, but if those are the only choices, I'd go with Cruise because of age.

I read on Aint it Cool that Perlman has a role as a dog sled handler.

im in for tom cruise. have you seen last samurai? i rest my case.

Man, I'm actually excited for Cruise as Dyer now. It'll be like his character in War of the Worlds without an annoying ten year old girl screaming her lungs out.

Worst comes to worst, we get an amazing replacement anyway. :woot:

If anyone can look panicky and out of breath, it's Cruise. Which is what this movie needs. Also, is this thing going to be period or set in present day?

1930's. That and the R rating are reasons Del Toro struggled to get this film off the ground with a decent budget.

GOing back to the whole Cruise vs McAvoy thing. IMO it's a pretty normal thing when different actors are considering for roles.
If that wasn't the case , actors would be picked pretty fast for roles.
Bale was the first actor Nolan met for Batman and impressed him. Yet WB still asked for other actors to be considered for the role.

Same thing happened with GL etc. ( although the moron who even mentioned TImberlake should be fired).

So i wouldn't go so far to say that this is a dispute between GDT and Uni over their choices.

I forgot about War of the Worlds and his performance in it. He was great in the film. So yeah. I'd be cool if he was played the main character.

You can tell the dog handler was written for Perlman. Or is the character in the story? I haven't read it.

It's kind of funny that as I was reading the script, Tom Cruise was who I was picturing in my head for Dyer. But I WAS trying to picture the movie with Spielbergian camera work and cinematography so it might have been more that I was picking out a Spielberg actor to imagine with. And yes, the dog sled handler is ABSOLUTELY Ron Perlman (or Bruce Campbell).

For those who read it-
I pictured Anthony Hopkins for the role of Lake, but so many people could pull that role off. Danforth also needs a good actor to work well alongside of Tom Cruise; I could picture Tom Hanks if they could even out the age difference with makeup, but if not, there are all sorts of younger actors who could pull the role off.

Cruise is volatile choice these days. Knight And Day tanked.

No one wants to see Tom Cruise unless he's dancing in ugly makeup and a fat suit.

There isn't a designated dog-handler; the expedition of about 20 uses a pack of about 50 Alaskan sledge dogs to move themselves and their equipment.
