this is a pretty simple thread, out of curiousity.

A large percentage of Athiests are going to tell you that there is no "purpose", that the obvious human "need" to elevate one's significance in the face of the scary, cold truth that we're here for no reason, an accumulation of living cells because of a one-in-a-quadrillion fluke, that succumbs to the laws of physics, dies and falls to disorganization into nothingness, is a biochemical delusion, or something.Yes i am.

lol, good use ofThat is just what I was looking for to brighten my day.![]()
You're assuming there is a purpose.
That's pretty much the closest you have to purpose. Sadly, it seems people have embraced the purpose of life too well. The purpose of life is to reproduce and make more of your species.
I don't know why you say, "Ah" like you're making some point.Ah but one can be an atheist and still a purpose in life. Many atheists are members of humanist ideologies: communism, anarchism, objectivism, etc. Only a nihilist believes life has no purpose and most atheists are not nihilist.
I don't know why you say, "Ah" like you're making some point.
His question is not "Atheists, do you believe there's a purpose to Life, and if so, what is it?"
It says, "What do you think the purpose IS?"
His question assumes there IS a purpose. A purpose suggests an intelligence with an agenda. Many Atheists HAVE their own self-appointed "purpose" to life, but they do not believe there is a "right" and absolute, "true" "Purpose to Life", which he, as a theist, obviously does.
They have their own.
All I said was, his question assumes there IS a "purpose". Many don't feel there even is one.

But just because Atheists don't believe in a reason for a living, doesn't mean we all sit around waiting to die because life is meaningless. I think whether you believe in an inherent purpose to life or not, it doesn't stop you having one. Lots of people just decide for themselves. Be it teacher, actor, conservationist, etc.
Find what you like doing, what you could do happily for the rest of your life and make that your life's purpose.
LOLI said "ah" as means to introduce a counter point and frankly I will say "ah" as much as I want.
Anyway, the flaw in this thread the term purpose. There are humanist purposes and metaphsyical purposes, which are different from eachother, but equally valid. Besides you are ignoring the fact that many ideologies are in fact pseudo religions. Many Ojectivists and Communists are as sure has the moral validity of their cause as any fundamentalist. Look at communism, the theory states historical materialism makes communism inevatible, its belief to them that cannot be changed. In many ways Communism and Objectivism are like religions.
There is no universal purpose, but you can find or create your own purpose.this is a pretty simple thread, out of curiousity.![]()
