Age of Ultron Avengers: Age of Ultron Fan Review Thread (Spoilers) - Part 1

I keep tearing up when I see this movie. Not because of anything particularly hitting home emotionally (well, sometimes, but that's not the point lol :p ), but usually because of just how awesome this movie is.

Definitely my favorite comic book movie. Thank you, Joss Whedon. You will be missed.

I would love it if in 2018 Joss came back to direct a Hulk movie for one of the 2020 slots.

Hulk will probably feature in Ragnarok so who knows.

Not sure I believe that rumour just yet, but I hope its true, was disappointed with his role in AOU and am hoping we see him before IW.

I still want to see another Hulk solo movie down the line though, he has a number of great stories and a few good villains they can adapt. I am hoping we see future imperfect and The Maestro at some point, as if the X-Men franchise can have time travel the MCU can as well.

Devin Faraci confirmed the rumour,he's pretty reliable when it comes to marvel studios. I believe it will happen. Could be a Big boost for both Thor and Hulk. I already imagine Hulk in his 'Planet hulk' costume. :D

Well, fingers crossed! I suppose if Hulk isn't going to be in CW, Ragnorak makes the most sense.

But even so I want to see another Hulk solo, Planet Hulk and Future Imperfect would make superb movies.

I hope we see Skaar at some point as well down the line.

I would love that. I'd even be for a hulk team up film with Hawkeye and Widow and I'd be more than happy to get whedon in the chair on any Marvel studios film love both avengers

Just had a chance to rewatch this on BluRay. I definitely enjoyed it more at home than I did in theater. Still didn't like the twins much and the overall threat seemed a little too easy for the Avengers. 8/10.

My question: Was Hydra working on bringing something similar to earth through the scepter? Ultron went back to Sakovia where it showed drone bodies already partially produced? Did the ScarletWitch know Stark would bring out the alien AI that ended up being Ultron?

Caught it on Starz yesterday. I did enjoy it, but was more impressed with the first one. Ultron is a vastly superior villain than Loki. The writers did an excellent job with him. What was up with Black Widow and Hulk? In the first Avengers, there was some pretty heavy hints at a Hawkeye/Black Widow romance, now all of a sudden Hawkeye is married and Black Widow has the hots for Banner? And why was Fury absent for most of the movie? 7/10

Nah, Romanoff and Barton were more like very close colleagues than romantic partners.

Fury remained hidden after the events of Winter Soldier.

Ah, I didn't see Winter Soldier (All the way through) yet.

lol Not alot of the fans liked Ultron. I thought he was terrifing enough.
Winter soldier is MY fave marvel studios film, worth the watch!

Did you see WS if not do so, it's really good. However Fury isn't in the movie a lot because of CA WS I can't go into much beyond that without spoilers watch WS it explains things.

Nothing in the first movie suggested anything between Hawkeye and Widow except fans looking at the scenes exactly that way, you saw something that wasn't there. Natasha explained why she chose Banner, it makes even more sense when you consider just how much they have in common.

rewatched AoU on Starz and honestly I like it way better a second time around and don't get some of the negative buzz for it.

I guess superhero movies are under more scrutiny lately, I don't know. I enjoyed every second of AOU.

I still maintain it's not a "great" movie. I think it's good though. Far from being bad, and far from being a "shark jumper" for comic book movies.

I also think it's a movie that benefits from repeated viewings. I've seen the movie 3 times; I definitely like it more now than I did after the first time I saw it.

After a few re-watches of this film, I really think that this should have been 2 films, a-la the last Harry Potter or Hunger Games. The avengers is meant to be the big shiny jewel of the MCU, and quite frankly topping the first avengers was going to be an impossible task. By making it into 2 movies Ultron could have become a truly fantastic villain, the new characters could have been better fleshed out.

The reason I believe that AOU didn't succeed as well as the avengers was mainly because the avengers had very little to introduce, basically every character/concept/plot point had been introduced in previous movies. The only new things were Maria Hill, Hawkeye (despite his Thor cameo), and the Chitauri (didn't need much explanation). They were able to dive right into the story. AOU had a lot more to introduce. Strucker, the twins, Ultron, Vision, Klaw, Dr Cho. All that introduction chewed up a lot of time.

My broad concept would have been using Strucker as the bad guy in the first movie (instead of being totally wasted). The movie opens the same, but Strucker gets away instead of being captured. Ultron is created, but is initially more child-like, and works with the avengers to help bring down Strucker. This would allow James Spader to develop Ultron from a neutral, naive character to the 'evil' entity that we ultimately see. Over the film Ultron would slowly make his decision that humanity are the planets real enemy. In the final battle Ultron would kill Strucker, despite being told not to by the avengers. They would then take him down, but his essence would escape in another robot/computer. This is the point that twins would decide that they need to join up with avengers. The film would close with Ultron showing up in a new, better body.

In the 2nd movie, the opening would be the avengers taking down ultrons minions in various battles, and Ultron deciding he needs his own super soldier to help destroy the avengers. He creates Vision, but Tony manages to interject JARVIS into the body during its awakening, giving the new creature conflicting thoughts. Much as Ultron came to his realization about what constitutes good and bad, Vision does too, but comes to a different conclusion. During the final fight with the avengers, Ultron kills Quicksilver and this finally convinces Vision that Ultron is the true evil. He joins with the avengers to defeat Ultron once and for all.

I watched this movie again the other day, and checked out some of the special features.

It was really cool to see Spader as Ultron in the scenes with the characters in his mocap get up. That technology has come a long way, maybe we take it for granted it now a days but it is impressive to see it being used in real time on set with the other actors there to feed off an actor's performance.

Spader did a great job and I find Ultron to be one of the more interesting and yes, threatening, villains in the MCU.

Ultron is definitely watered down via Disney when he could've been visually and thematically much more terrifying ... but I agree with his review.

I didn't think the first one was as special as the praise it got but it's the superior and more enjoyable film for me. But even being a kiddified version of him. Ultron > Loki as antagonist.
