The Avengers AVENGERS Post-Screening Reactions - NO SPOILERS!!!

As I said earlier.

It's telling that a desperate nolanite felt the need to try and plant a false review in an attempt to offset the hype and great reviews of this movie.

Needless to say it shall fail miserably.

There's no need to instantly label someone who doesn't like this film as a Nolanite. Just like there's no need to label someone who dislikes TDK as a marvel fan.

I'm personally psyched for both. I'm also extremely excited for ASM. I'm a comic fan, so I enjoy it when we get good comic book movies. Period. I don't care if it's DC, Marvel, or Image. I would love it if some of the best received and reviewed films this year were comic films. And it looks like that might just happen:woot:

I think his smirking works very well. After all, smiling and laughter does not always indicate happiness or amusement. I often smile right before I'm about to lose it. It's sort of an unconscious attempt to calm yourself down.

However, I do understand how some could find that off-putting about Mark Ruffalo. But that's part of the package with him. I'm sure he reacts that exact same way when he's angry or trying to be serious irl. It's less an acting thing and more of a natural demeanor. I've always liked it. It makes him more relate-able. But it's not for everyone.
EDIT: Found it.

Agreed. As someone who's hyped for both (and LOVED the Avengers more than any CBM), I find remarks like that to be uncalled for and just a tad annoying.

Thanks Everybody!!

Tom Hiddleston's role was probably my favorite. He gave a creepily un-hinged performance as Loki. He was just so frightening and sinister...

Great post. I always root for the comic films coming out to be something that everyone can enjoy. To be honest I was so pumped for Dark Knight Rises that the early trailers and images of Avengers really had me bummed and thinking it would not be the quality film it should be. Luckily my mind changed with that new trailer and hearing all this great buzz from early screenings really has me at a kid-like excitement level. My wife, bro-in-law and his gal have made a full day on May 5th with free comic book day, going out to eat, then seeing Avengers all together.

Thank you. I get tired of the anti-DC/anti-Marvel thing that happens on here sometimes. I mean, I get it. I've been around since BB came out and I remember how insufferable some Bat-Fans were after TDK was released. Heck, as of now (hopefully this summer will change my opinion) TDK is my favorite comic film. But some of the bat fans around here then even got me annoyed.

But that's gone away for the most part. If anything, I see more anit-Nolan/TDK posts then pro (mostly because we now have the inevitable backlash against anything that becomes insanely popular).

But really, it's like I said. I'm a comic fan. The first Superhero I got into as a kid was Spider-man. Then I saw B89 when I was 8 and I went nuts for Batman, then I got into Wolverine, then Superman. I've jumped back and forth my whole life. I just want to see good films based on the characters I love. And I certainly wouldn't hope any comic film does poorly, because that will only hurt the genre. And I hope comic films keep getting made for a long while.

Yeah, Im a Marvel guy EXCEPT I LOVE Batman. Aside from Batman, I really don't care for DC. That said all the Marvel vs DC stuff is just straight up annoying from both sides. I hate reading snide comments about the MCU over at TDKR forum and I hate reading snide comments about TDK over here. Its fine if you don't like the film, but no need to overly bash it.I realize it is annoying when TDK is brought up so often to some of the Marvel guys, but they have to realize that the majority of critics and the GA (and many fans here) see it as the best comic film and every comic film must be measured by it. Once can simply say "I didn't like TDK" or DC guys can simply say "I don't like the MCU". No need for all the extra nonsense.

Yup! Instead of bickering about which movie is better than the other and whose box office reigns supreme we should all be very thankful that we are getting all these comic book movies finally. I would say the majority of them are good rather than bad too which is something else to be thankful for. I was heavy into comics when I was younger and then got out of it for a while up until the first Spider-Man movie was released. I am no doubt a bigger fan of DC characters than Marvel, but that first movie is what made me come back to comics. I enjoy both companies for the different strengths each one has.

It seems like getting Joss Whedon to direct this thing was the best choice for the film. I'm sure other directors could have done a fine job, but Whedon has taken this project on as if it were his own creation in a way. All these responses from fans on how each character gets their share of screen time really shows you how much he cared to put a great film on the screen.

I'm not a anti-DC person. I was/sort of still am more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan. I just want DC to up there game!! I love the Dark Knight and i love Nolan movies but the direction that there taking there movies in won't allow for the type of stuff that were seeing with the Avengers.

Really that Marvel vs DC thing idiotic... because the differences aren´t that big. It´s mostly two different idealisms concerning the perception of the mythos superhero; so people have to see for themselves what they prefer...

If you´d ask me in general what company I prefer I´d say Vertigo, so technically DC, but if you take only the main publishers then I´m more of a Marvel fan. And love myself some good chunk of Darkhorse, too, for that matter. :D

And really.. it is not as if the fans could earn money by saying that their respective preference is better... same goes for the movies. Saying that Warners work is much better than that of Disney/Marvel isn´t going to get you free seats from them and vice versa..:)

I hope it has better staying power then 'The Dark Knight' for me PokeJ. As I loved it in the theater but can't really get into it whenever I try and watch it at home.
I'm quite sure it will for me. I generally feel like watching the MCU movies over and over again to a much bigger degree than I feel like doing it with TDK. Not because TDK is a worse movie, it's not and it's great, but the feel of it just doesn't make me crave to see it again often. I guess that one possible reason is that the MCU movies work better on the 'fun factor' and that's something that increases how easy it is to enjoy it over and over.

Hey everybody. I'm a first time poster, and long time lurker on this board. I've been following these boards for about 3 years since the release of Iron Man 2. I wanted to give you my thoughts on this movie.

I absolutely LOVED and ADORED this film. Ever since the release of Iron Man back in 2008, the thought of a team up film with superheroes seemed liked a very interesting albeit difficult idea. Obviously, they were going to have to release a couple of more films to establish characters like Thor, The Hulk, and Captain America. To a lesser degree Hawkeye and BlackWidow.

After watching this, you can tell it was Joss Whedon's magnum opus. I have always been a big fan of his. I loved Doll House, Serenity, Buffy, et al. Joss Whedon has crafted a Perfect super-hero film. Although the Special effects where great, the characters and story are what carried this film. This is where a lot of Summer movies fail so considerably IMO. Too many films rely on special effects to carry a film. Sure, movies like Transformers are great to look at, but the characterizations are so AWFUL you could care less about who's fighting who. The Avengers is different. You are completely invested in the characters, and you do care what happens to them when they are fighting.

Everything about the movie was perfect. The pacing was great. The Actors/Actresses all brought their A game. The score was energetic, but not over the top. The film didn't feel like a Made-for-TV movie either;which was my biggest concern. I could go on and on...

I don't consider myself a Fanboy, but this movie is Marvel's equivalent to The Dark Knight. As the movie ended, I immediately wanted to get back in line to watch it again. It's definitely my favorite Marvel Superhero film. It's better than Spiderman 2, X men 2, First Class, and Iron Man. I consider it better than Star Trek(2009) as well.

I know this review is poorly written, but I wanted to give you my thoughts on it!

A+ 10/10

Welcome to SHH PokeJ!

Really glad that you loved THE AVENGERS and that MCU is as exciting and interesting to you as it is to us.

And your review is not poorly written at all.:yay:

Whilst there is no way that I can prove that this guy was a nolanite, my personal experience from over the last 2 years and from all over the internet is that 100% of the time these sort of occurrences are from nolanites. Therefore I made a fair assumption based upon past experience. If you don't like that, hard luck.

I have to agree with the others that the bickering and fan-blaming, whether you prefer Marvel or DC more, is really pointless and, to be honest, turns me off from either fandoms. I love both companies. I want to see more of their properties on screen, in some sort of live action and/or animated form. I crave a Wonder Woman movie someday, and I hope it can get off the ground. I do believe DC and WB stepped up their game in what a live-action comic book movie could be with Nolan's Batman. But now, with The Avengers, I think Marvel may have raised the bar even further. We should be celebrating that both companies and studios are willing to throw away the playbook and reach for something new and exciting. I'm interested to see what DC/WB comes up with post-TDKR, just like I am with stage 2 of the MCU.

Which means the arguing and bickering between fanbases back and forth undermines all this creativity and excitement. Not something I like at all.

I'm a Marvel fan myself, but I like DC heroes as well and I was pretty bummed out when GL flopped. GL's probably my favorite DC character so I really wanted it to do well, I'm a fan of Supes as well so I hope "Man of Steel" is everything Super Returns should've been.

I'm not a big fan of Batman but Nolan's done the character justice with Batman Begins and TDK, I prefer BB so hopefully TDKR is more like it than TDK. Bane is one of my favorite Batman villains and I'm glad he's finally getting movie love, so I want TDKR to be a great film as well.

You can watch my review in my signature below but concerning this whole Marvel/DC crapola, it'll never end.

If you decide to not watch the video, I have come to the decision that Avengers is a better overall film than The Dark Knight. This doesn't take away from TDK but some DC fans and others will inevitably take it as if I now dislike the film. They may also believe I am just saying it to cause controversy or stir up a conversation but I genuinely do believe it's a better movie.

Of course, it is like apples and oranges but still. We should all just be appreciative that we live in a cinematic time period where the majority of comic book films are very well executed, achieved, and prosperous. We are in the golden age of CBMs. If Spidey and TDKR are anything like Avengers in their own unique ways...this may be one of, if not the best Comic Book Movie Year of all time yet.

I agree on all counts

I also enjoyed your video review bro, it really made me even more excited for the movie.

I agree, but some of the fans for these two respective comic book companies have taken them in like they're their favorite sports team, and so they would not only root for that company but also derail against the "opposite team". I grew up with Marvel Comics when I was young, so I'm naturally more drawn toward Marvel than DC, but I've watched movies made from both and I've hated some Marvel movies while liking some DC's. In the end, the success of Marvel and DC in Hollywood will only benefit the genre as a whole, and lend some legitimacy to superheroe films since there are still skeptics out there who won't take this seriously.

Even though i want all comic book films to be successful? Is it so wrong to want the avengers to be the most successful? :D

If everybody is done patting themselves on the back over how unbiased they are, maybe we could talk more about The Avengers...

^ Maybe WE can talk more about the Avengers, all you do is pop up every now and then to say something negative.

All i know is that when I wear my Avengers shirt I get 2-3 compliments from total strangers like clockwork. Think the awareness Avengers is pretty high yet?

Yes indeed

On an unrelated note, I have a shirt where Peter Griffin has dreads like Bob Marley and I've gotten several compliments from it.

It's a FACT; people like shirts that are cool! :woot:

P.S. That also makes said person wearing said shirt cool as well! :word:
