The Avengers AVENGERS Post-Screening Reactions - NO SPOILERS!!!

Whilst there is no way that I can prove that this guy was a nolanite, my personal experience from over the last 2 years and from all over the internet is that 100% of the time these sort of occurrences are from nolanites. Therefore I made a fair assumption based upon past experience. If you don't like that, hard luck.

....Yeah I'm going to make a fair assumption that thats an exaggeration. Actually one of the main Mods at the Nolan forum is a HUGE MCU fan...

And I'm sure that's based on hard fact finding research.

If that's really how you want to view it, nothing I can say is going to change your mind. But if it bugs you that much that apparent DC fans give negative reviews to the Avengers, then I wouldn't start calling everyone who gives it a negative review a DC fan. Because all that will do is put DC fans who have no problem with it on edge. But hey, it's your choice.

Any who, is anybody else having a hard time not watching all these clips? I've watched most of them but I'm trying to hold myself back and not spoil myself too much, but man it's not easy. I really don't want to wait two weeks:csad:

Holy god, can we please stop talking about DC v Marvel?

Stop patting yourselves on the back for being unbiased.

Stop acting like it's the end of the world that somebody, somewhere on the internet is.

Stop acting like you're trying to root out communist agitators. If there are bad reviews of The Avengers going around then each individual will have to make a judgment call, it's not something we're going to solve here with a special list of people who we shouldn't trust.

Get back to talking about The Avengers reviews, and not Pepsi vs. Coke.

Ever since the premiere I've pretty much been in front of my computer just waiting for May 4th to come. It's not like I don't have a life... I'm in college, but over the last few days it doesn't seem like it.

It's so hard to not give into the temptations of watching the videos, only a few weeks left of it! We can do it!!!

By the same token, stop acting like it's the end of the world because we're having a reasonable discussion on the subject. It's not the end of the world that some people, somewhere on the internet, are talking about how they like DC and Marvel.

And JB-the-Hunter, I'm totally with you. I'm in my 4th year at college, and this is making it mighty hard to focus on finals. Especially since when I'm, say, trying to do a paper that's due tomorrow, I keep checking the boards every five minutes:woot:

The point is that this isn't the thread for it.

But, since you're bringing it up, I don't think there's much to be discussed. Talk til you're blue in the face, but it's always going to end on 'Some people love Marvel, some people love DC. Some people are aware of their biases and can get past them, others can't. And some people are just trolls for the hell of it.'

DC's roster of heroes are rooted in the 40's & 50's and therefore must be "updated" in pretty radical ways in order to make any kind of sense in a modern setting.(I know Cap goes way back, but his character, like the other heroes, fully coalesced in the 60's.) The Marvel characters, with their angst and humor and melodrama, and with todays technology, are completely relatable to a modern audience. And visually, Kirby, Ditko et al have done much of the work already.

I pretty much agree with that. I completely realize that trying to argue too much with someone on the internet is an exercise in futility. Which was why my last post was basically saying "I know I won't change your mind, but just be aware you're throwing fuel on the fire."

It is what it is. I do think it's good to politely remind people sometimes, because then we might avoid needless flame wars. To be honest, this isn't nearly as bad as it has been in past years on the boards. It got downright nasty for a while between Batfans and Spidey fans after TDK came out.

But back to the Avengers. Is there any word on when the embargo for reviews is going to be lifted? I'd love to see some of the critics reactions to this (if they were invited).

I don't think there's any point in comparing TDK and The Avengers, as someone already said, they're apples and oranges in terms of the direction each film has taken the genre.

DC has a lot of great characters, but they lack variety IMO. Way too many legacy characters, "copy" characters, and characters with "man" "woman" "girl" "boy" or a color in their name. I actually think the reboot was necessary, although they didn't exactly do it the way I think they should have.

Keep in mind I LIKE DC, and I'm not comparing them to Marvel, I'm comparing them to my own tastes and expectations. So please don't bring up Marvel vs DC.

There are difficulties that DC has in developing its properties that Marvel doesnt have. Nolan has spoken about this in the past (at least as it relates to BM and Supes) and Whedon iterated this exact point in a recent interview. I think he was responding to a question about the Justice League. Im a big fan of both DC and Marvel characters so the DC vs Marvel thing is completely irrelevant.

Sorry for being totally off-topic. May 4th cant get here fast enough.

I never said all nolan fans do these things! Obviously that's ridiculous.

I said everytime I've encountered someone pretending to be a MARVEL fan and bashing the MCU it has proved to be a nolanite. When you go and check their profile and other posts you see it.

I'm not lying nor am I making a blanket statement about nolan fans.

Fair enough.

Blech, can we give up this pseudo-crusade against trolling Nolanites who pretty much never appear?

Just want to say...as a DC/Batman fan it's unfortunate that there are trolls out there willing to post fake reviews in a pathetic attempt to hurt the hype of The Avengers. There are obviously trolls and haters on both sides, but a good deal more level-headed fans who will most likely see and enjoy both movies and realize that they are two completely different approaches to a CBM. We all have our preferences naturally, but it's nice to see cooler prevailing on both boards (by my estimate anyways).

Even if I wasn't interested in The Avengers (which I am), there's still no good reason to root against it because it being a critical and financial success only means good things for the genre and that's a fact.

I may have missed some posts, but I haven't seen much in the way of how the 3D looks. Only one or two bits that claim it to be a little dark and not really worth the money. Anyone know if the IMAX 3D gave out a brighter picture? I am still probably sticking with the 2D version, unless there is overwhelming praise with the 3D.

So is this a review thread or just for Twitter/Facebook reactions? Which thread do I post in?
