Can't go wrong with HBO and can't go wrong with Anthony Hopkins

Hopkins and ERW? :hrt:

This is shaping up really nice. I didn't realize that Lisa Joy (Jonah's wife) was co-writing with Jonah. Has any of you guys read her script - Reminiscence? It's one of the favorite scripts out there currently. It got sold to Legendary so I'm hoping that it will get made eventually.

Christian Bale as James Brolin.

Am I right in thinking Evan Rachel Wood's character is a robot?

Ed Harris To Star In HBO Pilot ‘Westworld’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

HBO drama pilot Westworld is building one of the largest and highest-wattage casts in recent memory. Ed Harris has closed a deal for one of the central leads in the project, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Person Of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, writer Lisa Joy, producer Jerry Weintraub and Warner Bros TV. He joins previously cast Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and Jeffrey Wright. Inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie set at an amusement park, Westworld is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Harris will play The Man in Black — the distillation of pure villainy into one man. This marks Harris’ return to HBO where he starred in the movie Game Change, winning a Golden Globe and earning an Emmy nomination. He will next be seen in the feature film Run All Night. Also cast in Westworld to date are Rodrigo Santoro, James Marsden, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman; Eddie Rouse, Demetrius Grosse, Kyle Bornheimer, Currie Graham, Lena Georgas, Steven Ogg and Timothy Lee DePriest.
AHHHHHHH!!! :awesome::up:

Wow. I already had this on my "must watch" list, but now its gone even higher than that.

Just saw the Ed Harris news. I only remember hearing the name Westworld being thrown around a little while back and thought it was a movie remake. Kind of nice to find out that it's an HBO show and isn't going to be a direct redo of the movie. I love the movie but there are so many places they can take this amusement/theme park. Start off with the western setting and in later episodes or seasons go with some other eras.

Thandie Newton To Co-Star In HBO Pilot ‘Westworld’
by Nellie Andreeva
August 13, 2014 12:30pm

HBO drama pilot Westworld continues to build one of the largest and highest-wattage casts in recent memory. Thandie Newton has closed a deal to co-star in the project, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Person Of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, writer Lisa Joy, producer Jerry Weintraub and Warner Bros TV. She joins previously cast Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and Jeffrey Wright. The casting comes on the heel of DirecTV picking up Newton’s drama series Rogue for 20 more episodes. Newton is boarding Westworld following an agreement between WBTV and Rogue producer Entertainment One. Inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie set at an amusement park, Westworld is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Newton, repped by Untitled Entrainment and WME, will play the beautiful and razor-sharp Maeve Millay, the Westworld madame whose seen-it-all-before worldview is about to be truly challenged. Also cast in Westworld to date are Rodrigo Santoro, James Marsden, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman, Eddie Rouse, Demetrius Grosse, Kyle Bornheimer, Currie Graham, Lena Georgas, Steven Ogg and Timothy Lee DePriest.

Miranda Otto Boards HBO Pilot ‘Westworld’
by Nellie Andreeva

HBO drama pilot Westworld has added another boldface name to the cast. Lord of the Rings alumna Miranda Otto has joined the project, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Person Of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, writer Lisa Joy, producer Jerry Weintraub and Warner Bros TV. She joins previously cast Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright. Inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie set at an amusement park, Westworld is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Otto will play Virginia Pittman, the head of the Quality Assurance department whose brutal honesty with her colleagues and her ruthless efficiency in dealing with malfunctioning “property” have made her a formidable and unpredictable power player in Westworld. Also cast in Westworld to date are Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Kyle Bornheimer, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman, Eddie Rouse, Demetrius Grosse, Currie Graham, Lena Georgas, Steven Ogg and Timothy Lee DePriest. Otto, repped by Gersh, Management 360 and UK’s United Agents, recently co-starred on Fox’s Rake and is coming out in the feature The Horseman.

Wow, when is this thing going to be done casting? I'm not complaining or anything... but wow. This is a huge freaking cast.

How HBO's 'Westworld' Became TV's Hottest Project
5:00 AM PDT 8/29/2014 by Lesley Goldberg

The drama, about an adult amusement park populated by lifelike robots, is attracting an A-list ensemble cast

This story first appeared in the Sept. 12 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

HBO's Westworld is building an A-list ensemble cast — despite the fact that most of the actors will play robots. Actually, that's the allure.

Based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film and written by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the pilot stars Anthony Hopkins in his first series-regular role as an inventor who runs an adult amusement park populated by lifelike robots.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter these androids — played by castmembers including James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton — can be killed off and return with completely different personas, allowing actors to play many characters in the same season.

That creative device, one top talent agent says, is helping HBO attract a premier cast (which also includes Ed Harris, Miranda Otto and Jeffrey Wright). And unlike the actors on such anthology series as FX's American Horror Story and HBO's own True Detective, which reboot themselves every season, the cast of Westworld is signing multiyear deals.

"This is built as a series and, in terms of storytelling, I think the rules are definitely being broken," says HBO programming president Michael Lombardo of the sci-fi Western from executive producers J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk. "The promise of the show, in terms of where it's going, is exciting to actors, and they want to be a part of this."

Westworld — a rare outside studio buy for HBO, from Warner Bros. Television — is filming its pilot in Los Angeles in August as it awaits word on a pickup, which, given its pedigree, is expected.

Damn. This sounds way too promising.

I wanted to buy the Blu Ray of this recently but there is no Region 2 yet. I'm interested to see how this TV show conversion goes given the talent involved.

That's quite an old post I'm replying to, but it was released on Blu-ray in the UK three weeks ago.
