Bags & Boards: Some Thoughts

I like to sit down and do them 50-100 at a time. It's very cathartic.

On the drawer boxes, something to think about:

I looked at them and I'm not entirely sure that if you want to separate them with dividers (the plastic type) that the dividers will fit both width and height wise.

Also, the opening and closing of the drawer when empty was not exactly easy, and I would think a full box might be very hard to open.

The bags and board has always been a sort of question to me.I only really bag and board comics that are valueable,or that i think will become valueable someday.Otherwise i just let them sit in my reading room,in one of the large comic storage boxes.

Except for comics I buy occasionally from ebay, my shop bags and boards my comics already. I just have to buy stickers to keep the bags closed, color coded and everything. And about the shelves, I just have the four (almost five) longboxes for now, but I'm debating going to Home Depot and building a shelving unit to slide boxes in, one that can include Previews catalogs as well, since I have over two years worth. I figure it will only cost about thirty dollars for the raw wood, nails, and varnish. Much cheaper than store-bought shelves.

Anyways, ... as far as the bags and boards themselves go, I generally buy current bag and board size, though my LCS uses Silver Age, as did my previous shop. They're not bad, but putting them together in the same book can cause problems in keeping the boxes even.

I want one of those so badly. :csad:
Those cardboard boxes are so unsightly :o

Try having your stupid cat use them as a scratching post. On top of them being cardboard, fading white boxes sitting there, they are now getting torn apart and pieces of cardboard are hanging off of them. :hulk:

Well one guy bags my comics for me so that isn't really a prob, I imagine the price of comics would go up if the came with bags and boards as the shipping price would go up.

Me too, it gives me a chance to see what I have in my collection.

No I mean, I actually enjoy the process of bagging and boarding.

Put the comic in the bag, followed by the board, repeat.

My method is the exact opposite. Insert board, then comic, repeat.

I enjoy bagging my comics....Slipping the board into the slender delicate filiment that is the bag. Slide the comic in smoothly, fold the tab over gently and with a slender piece of tape set at just the right angle close them up.

Makes me feel very dainty and lady-like. :) I've actually sat at the comic bookstore and wanted to volunteer to do it.

However it is very expensive to buy bags and boards...$10 for boards...$8 for bags and I spend about $80 a month on comics...so I only bag the 'special' comics.
Also I keep reminding myself they're only material goods and I won't be taking them with me when I die...

Now..if I could figure out how to put my long boxes together I'll be just fine.

$18 fer bags and boards? Man, are you gettin' ripped. Mine costs me $10 total.

From that suggestive post,i can imagine many men like to watch you do that.I cant help but laugh,as i re-read this post.

On another note, ive seen a new trend of comic readers just putting a comic into a bag,no board.Do they not know that the spine can bend?Ive also seen comics being sold this way also, has anyone else seen this. What do others think?

My comic shop does this, but only with comics they hold for people - the ones on the racks are totally commando. :o

That's hot:O

I put two comics in one bag (silver age size) divided by a backing board.

601/602 etc...

Then I tape 'em shut with two small pieces of scotch tape.

I have all of my comics and TPB's bagged, been wanting to rent a space at Public Storage since my collection is growing.

They bag and board them for me at my shop upon purchase.

It just seems very wrong. Like it's in eachother's personal space.

I never bag and board. Too much of a hassle.

Then there's really no need to collect them. All the ink is going to transfer from fronts to backs and vice versa. In a few years you'll have an inky worthless mess. Not to mention bent up corners.

I always thought that the first guy to market a clear plastic backboard insert (so's you could see both sides of the book) would make a mint.

I've never thought of that. Seems logical. Do you think it would be more or less expensive? My guess is more, but who knows what they'll be able to do in the FUTURE!
