Iron Man Bat-Iron Begins Man

When has a Fav movie disappointed? All the movie's he's directed are fresh on RT.

Swingers 78%=fresh $4,555,020
Made 67%=fresh $5,313,300
Elf 85%=fresh $173,398,518
Zathura 76%=fresh $29,258,869

And Nolan?
Before BB:

Following 79%=fresh $48,482

Memento 94%=fresh $25,544,867

Insomnia 92%=fresh $67,355,513

After BB:
Batman Begins 84%=fresh $205,343,774

The Prestige 75%=fresh $53,089,891

I'd say that before CBM both are good filmmakers(giving Nolan a slight edge in critical acclaim but Fav better at making $).

Money doesn't always mean that the movie is going, otherwise FF would bomb. And Zathura was a lackluster, which tried to cope Jumanji IMO.

Besides, I would advice you to check out all Fav's movies' avarage ratings on RT ;)

And by the way, Favreau didn't direct Swingers.

LOL, that's because Jumanji and Zathura are both based on books written by the same author.

^^^

Really? Didn't know this. But still, it doesn't save the whole movie from being crap.

This is the logical way to make an IM movie anyway

Marvel changes with the times so how do you think a weapons designer would be portrayed today during this war against terror

My guess is that the starter of this thread was speaking moreso about the formula being used for this film will be more than similar to the one used for BB. Personally, I hope not. Iron Man is a totally different bird and should be given its own vision and treatment.

If this is the case, it may speak volumes about Marvel's approach to their own films. From a business standpoint Marvel has alot at stake and so much to gain from possible success that "borrowing" a formula from another popular comicbook movie, with similar traits is the safer thing to do.

From what I've read, it seems Favreau is going to attempt to balance the realism and fantasy in this film. Hopefully, it's more fantasy than reality. Comicbook movies that go the realism route, at some point, often have to break the very rules they impose in order to portray such fantastical characters.

Realism as in the Marvel Way I'm all for. Realism as in BB, no thanks.

...whoa, just felt a slight ping of excitement and hype for this film. Got to extinguish that right away.

yeah this is cool no matter how you slice it.

IronMan is not Marvel's version of Batman. There are similarities, but there's more similarities with Howard Hughes than Bruce Wayne.

I was just about to say that. I hope we get to see Starks vast array of jarred piss...(inside joke)

I love Iron Man. I love Robert Downey Jr., I love Jon Favreau, I love Marvel, I love Iron Man. And i pee a little every time i think about this movie. Lets get that straight, K? K.

That being said, i definetly would just like to point out that marvel is cashing in on Batman Begins, if that makes sense. This Movie is going to be a lot like batman begins because of its success.
- Serious Ensemble cast of oscar nominees? Check.
- Promised serious/sophisticated/adult tone? Check.
- Playboy millionaire who makes weapons for the army and then uses them for himself? CHeck.
- Hero has a friend and they are both fighting a corporate system of a sort
etc.

Good. I hope that the producers are shamelessly stealing the idea of taking the quality of a comic book movie seriously. I want them to milk the "actually make a good movie" trend for all it's worth.

^Dont worry they will. NO way this movie is going to dissappoint especially since it has a stellar cast, good director, good vfx house, good studio with good marketing track record(Paramount) and Marvel is doing it all by themselves. If anything this movie is going to top spidey at the BO and reviews. If IM gets 92% on rottentomatoes and a 400M domestic BO that would be some impressive feat.

You forgot one.
- Mentor turns on the hero.

I have high hopes for this movie, but there's no way it tops Spider-Man at the box-office. Spider-Man is an icon. More than half of my friends don't know who Iron Man is. I'm expecting a box office around $200 million, if it's good. Maybe a little over if it's REALLY good. Superhero movie box-office history indicates such.
