Batman discussion thread.

So i read the issue, and must say, what a massive pile of crap it was indeed. I have no problem with prose, but this was some of the most prententious drivel I've probably ever read. It reads like a college kids first novel trying way too hard to make everything sound sophisticated and intellectual. Analogies and metaphors every other sentence doesn't make it sound "smarter". Beyond that, the story itself sucked as well. So the Joker is back, yay? And in a crappy return. I mean, what was the point, really? This is the big return of the Joker they had been hyping, the return of the Joker that didnt allow Dini to write in Detective? And finally, I hated the art.

I thought the format was stupid and the artwork a joke.

But I'll pretend I loved it to be intelligent.

Oh ****, you're right.

Um yeah, it was great, Morrison is a genius!

i still haven't read it yet. is this supposed to take place before joker showed up and got shot in the face in morrison's first issue?

No this is his return after being shot.

I love your assumption that I think seth is stupid just because I disagree with his opinion. Hey, squeakness said she didn't like the format (or the writing, or the art) in the other Batman discussion thread, and I didn't say or think she was a child. Why? Because she states her opinions clearly and intelligently. And while I may disagree with them, I can't help but feel respect for her. She's obviously a very smart person.

Old sethcohen is the polar opposite of that, however. I'm honestly shocked he's 8 years older than I. Every time I read a post by him I feel dumber even if I agree on whatever point he's trying (and usually failing) to make. What can I say? I can't stand stupid people. Can I be an ASSHAT now?

Let's see...
I dislike the format, because, when I purchase a comic book I'm under the impression I am about to indulge in material that is primarily visual... Art, if you will. I enjoy the story presented through the artwork with the addition of dialogue. I don’t expect to get an over pretentious short story that sounds like someone took a paragraph long story and stretched it out with a thesaurus and dictionary. I would have been much more forgiving if the text was readable and the artwork wasn’t hokey looking computer artwork. Knowing Morrison he used the cut-up technique for this story (as he has been known to do), but instead of most of the unreadable garble being hidden by the fact that it is a script for an artist to follow, we are subjected to it outright. This story was not well written. Plain and simple.

Is that better? Is it eloquent enough for you? Sorry I didn’t elaborate further and my short responses seem to you like I am saying, “me hate poopy book! No pitchures make it doody!”

You don’t like me? Fine. Ignore me there are many more people here with far stupider opinions and worse means of conveying them then me.

dont read it, youre better off... i finally read most of this and i think my brain is bleeding now... ok so the kubert boys cant put a book out on time, but dont subject us to this pompus over portentous drivel and try to call it a comic... grant morrison wants to write a batman book or short story with crappy, i mean, "creepy" CGI art, thats fine, just dont stick it in my comics... publish it elsewhere and market it as being what it is... i love morrsions work but this was just garbage

thanks.

What is this new format people speak of?

Lol, i'm starting to not wanna read Batman anymore.:( As a whole, I mean. I only like Robin.

im not excited about this future story line coming up either... it sounds terrible... morrison needs to either step up his game or leave the title...

future stories dont bother me, but the plot to this sounds blah...

The future Damian Wayne story sounds like a chance for Morrison to throw every single weird, dark, and Metaphorical concepts of his in one issue.

and for kubert to draw an outlandishly horrible batman costume

This is the FIRST issue of a Morrison book sans Quitely that I've ever really liked. Not saying that the art was great overall, and the story didn't depend on the art as much as a typical comic, but at least it didn't fook up the book like it did when a non-Quitely artist was on New X-Men.

I thought the ish was exceptionally moody, that the excessive use of twisted description worked, considering the subject of the story. It was all about the uneasy imagery, and Morrison worked it. He worked me, at least.

I still haven't gotten the issue. Stupid subscription. :cmad:

The art looked like it was taken from screen shots of some 90's computer game.

Not all of it. The first few pages with the clowns were really good, the Batmobile page, the Joker reveal page was OK. That's all I can recall

Good. Now post like that all the time, and you won't suck anymore.

And they all get much harder a time than you do, so cheer up.
Its not an assumption, you stated it in so many words.
All I stated in so many words was that I thought seth cohen was preteen. That could be for any number of reasons. I explained those reasons precisely, and they had nothing to do with what you assumed.
