BvS Batman Physique Thread

Anyone who emphasizes strength over flexibility, endurance, and acrobatics has no idea what Batman's ideal physique would be. It's cringeworthy to see hulking and overtly muscular body types being brought up.

Agreed. Batman doesn't need to look like a bodybuilder, he needs to look like an athlete. Batman's physique should always be balanced to allow for both speed & power.

Yes it's an ideal physique in his prime, but is Batman being portrayed in his prime in this movie?

To an extent, but Batman has always been an "idealized" version of a man. He's essentially the perfect athlete (in fact, he's usually an impossible athlete, given some of the things he reportedly can do).

However, I do think people should remember that you can still be very large, muscular, powerful, and retain a great amount of speed and agility. LeBron James is a perfect example of this. That man is incredibly large, strong, and yet still fast and agile. Faster and more agile than most athletes half his size.

Another good example is Shawne Meriman. He's about 6'5, 270ish pounds. He was a great linebacker for the Chargers, and also competed on Ninja Warrior for fun.

Now, yes, these people are freak athletes. But so is Batman, and by that logic we can still easily have the more Jim Lee/Frank Miller sized Batman and not be sacrificing his agility necessarily.

Batman is primarily a ninja - ninja's aren't known for their bulging muscles, but for their sleek, agile, yet strong physiques IMO..

Well, ponder the body type of an NCAA/ Olympic heavyweight wrestler. Wrestlers are known for their endurance, speed, and flexibility. Yet there are still guys who compete at 275lbs with all the physical attributes of the smaller weight classes.

See my above post. While obviously not the norm, there are athletes out there who are in the 270lb range who are still amazingly quick and agile. LeBron James is a perfect example, as are NBA Basketball players in general, or NFL Middle Linebackers.

Shawn still looked incredibly awkward in that video. Lebron James isn't "bulky" either, he has the body of a physical WR...his weight comes from his tall frame more than anything. Yeah he's cut, but he's definitely not hulking. Also, wrestlers in the weight class you're suggesting are far less agile and quick than the lighter weights. The main difference between watching matches in the 145s and heavyweights is that the lighter guys are more flexible and quicker (ankle picks, single legs, fancy leg riding) while the larger guys are more strength oriented (bear hugs, head throws, duck under). While the heavyweights are quick for their size, they're not as fast as the smaller wrestlers.

I don't understand this talk of being muscular preventing Bruce from being quick and agile. Being muscular does not prevent one from being fast and athletic. Sure, the huge bodybuilders might be at a disadvantage, but look at these athletes.

This would be the perfect balance for Batman, I think. Don't forget that agility and quickness won't do him much good if he can't punch with force...It's just not practical to beat up big thugs night in and night out without significant muscle mass.

I never said anything about being "bulky" I was pointing out that there are many very large men who are incredibly strong, quick, and agile. LeBron James is one of those. He's incredibly muscular, incredibly fast, and BIG. I think Batman could easily have the same kind of frame.

The same goes Shawn. And many other middle linebackers. These are very big and strong men that are also very fast and agile.

Again, when people point to 275 lb wrestlers is where I have an issue. Those guys are bulky, and even with their heightened speed they're still somewhat at an awkward size. When we see Shawn in the ninja competition, he still looks awkward (he would be at the far end of "athletic" and closer to bulky). I think you guys are pointing to athletic muscle (think rugby, gymnastics, non-heavyweight wrestlers). Lebron is also freakishly tall, and that's where most of his weight comes from. He has an athletic muscular build, for sure, but he's not HUGE. To suggest that somebody even Shawn's size, however, especially after watching the video, is capably of ninja level skills is entirely unrealistic.

That Shawn Merriman video is the perfect example of why he CANT be hulking.

This guy disagrees with you

His lats were so developed he wouldn't have actually needed a cape to play batman.

Rehan Jalali's latest tweet.

"The Dark Knight will Rise Bigger,Stronger,Leaner and more Muscular then ever before.#Batfleck "

People here are doubting his shape whereas his trainer is creating even more hype by promising the world to the fans.

^ Ben seems to have the awesomest built in genetics. I think he'll be the best physical representation of the character.

I know this tweet could just be biased hype, but this gives me even more hope we're gonna see a great physical representaion of Bruce/Batman! And yes, Ben definitely has the frame to bring it to the big screen.

I think people forget how tall Ben is. I don't know if he's freak tall like Vince Vaughn, but he's a towering fella

Vaugh is 6'5, Affleck is 6'4... that's tall.
