It was a poor approximation though.

It looked like a generic fake ab board was stuck under. The suit nor cavill really needed that. It was too close a throwback to the old schumacher rubber muscle suits with the ridiculously chiseled abs.

His arms don't look ANY bigger to me when he's in the suit as opposed to shirtless - yes they added in the vein and whatever to make it look more real and almost like a second skin, but it doesn't look padded to me at all.

The abs are a bit silly though, I will admit!

I hope they fix the abs for the sequel, but otherwise I'd have to say the MOS suit is my favourite Superman suit across any medium.
I don't have a problem with the concept of abs on his suit, just the exeuction. Though like I said in the movie itself you can barely make out.

I think having a flat stomach might be a problem of aesthetics and would be the same problem for Superman as it is in bodybuilding. If you don't have abs and obliques, the region from the pecs to the waist seems bare. Abs add necessarily detail, they define your mid section and indicate a muscular and well developed core.

The abs on the current suit are not terrible, but they can be done slightly better to look like real muscles like the rest of the suit does.

Christopher Reeve's Superman was a great performance, not a great physique. Henry Cavill is in a different universe compared to Reeve.

But maybe I would make a place for him on the list, as I haven't seen choices 5 to 8.

Like I said, take this list with a grain of salt.

Also McGuire while serving the character is not an example of "exemplary physique onscreen". No guy is gonna watch Spiderman and say that is my goal, I want to look like that. But lots of guys have one of the actors above as their physical goal.

You ladies can gush over abs all you want, but my goal is Michael Clarke Duncan in Daredevil. :woot:

More workout related pictures of Cavill have surfaced from the extra features. Cavill put 8 months into it and it shows. He really gave it his all.

So this might the standard which Cavill will have to again achieve and Affleck will have to aim for.

Cheers for the pics slumcat. His arms are effing HUGE. I would be surprised if Affleck got quite so ripped - I do think he'll get stacked and be in great shape, but I can't see him dedicating quite as much time to it as Cavill did - Affleck has a wife and 3 kids (i think its 3??) PLUS I think he has an inch or two on Cavill in height, so maybe won't need to gain quite as much bulk to look so imposing...?

What are the last pics we have of Affleck, anyone know? Where we can see his physique? Just under four months til shooting now so I guess we can get an idea of how he might look at this stage...

Cavill really should have shaved his chest for better definition and to attract a greater female fanbase.

They wanted him to shave his chest but he showed them the Death of Superman comic where Superman is shown with a hairy chest

Many women are attracted by the male type cavill has with his chest like that :cwink:

I am talking about the people that can turn someone into a superstar.......teenagers. Chest hair doesn't seem to do it for teenage girls and some women. It would be better to attract as much females as possible. Teenagers and women can make someone a superstar.

Cool to see him work out on rings.
Gym Jones do a lot of their workouts on rings, even pull-ups and push-ups. The reasoning is that without a firm base, you will always be using your abs to stabilize while you do pull-ups and push-ups which are not typically ab exercises. So basically even while doing some of your other workouts, you get a burn on the abs too. And they also do some ring exercises exclusively for the abs, like the Roman chair Cavill is seen doing which was also used extensively for the actors in 300.

I think he will get great results. He's already in good shape so that's a start. Plus this IS a big role for Affleck, his chance again at being a blockbuster leading man, so he WILL give it his all.

He did shave his chest for Immortals to show his muscle definition better.

But honestly that's not needed for MOS. Even with chest hair, he looks extremely shredded and is showing some insane muscle definition. So he's not really losing out.

Besides the hairy chest goes well with his bearded look and makes for a more macho image, which is definitely suitable for Superman.

Although the difference would have been minimal it would have still been a difference. Also aesthetic wise a lack of chest hair is more universally appealing.

I think he's reaching quite enough of star status already without worrying about a shave... Hugh doing Wolverine for 13+ years with chest hair has shown how well a natural hairiness works out for the ladies.

With Affleck's size already I think he will train up easily for his best yet form...

That's the point :yay:

Yep. Rings are awesome that way :word:

As for how Ben will look next to Cavill, I think his height will arguably make-up for his potentially less bulky physique compared to cavill.

Michael Shannon for example who's only a little taller than Ben never looked puny next to Cavill despite being nowhere as ripped, mainly due to the fact he was taller and just appeared bigger in some instances next to cavill.

I'm sure Ben will get in much better shape than Shannon as well. I think the real "concern" could be Ben in full gear actually dwarfing Cavill in some instances?
