Batman & Son, Assault on Arkham announced

Hey guys,
it looks as though the film has leaked and if you know what you're doing then i'm sure you can find it. I'm going to watch it tonight to be honest, knowing that I always buy these movies anyway(I own almost all of them except for a few). I find it hard to believe this film could be as bad as Antithesis is claiming, and i'm hoping it isn't the case. Nothing that he has said really makes any sense so i'm curious to see what it's like

Just started watching it, the back and forth dialogue between Damien and Alfred is hysterical

My job has some certain perks. Also, I'm sure that if you know where to look, you may or may not find a less than legal way to find a copy.

Off the top of my head, the things that stood out to me as bad are:
1) the over the top violence
2) undercutting of intense or serious scenes with I appropriately places jokes or humor (like "Iron Man 3").
3) horrendous voice acting from almost everyone except O'Mara and Esposito.
4) weird usage of the League of Assassins... Also they looked like total chumps.
5) the characterizations were all over the place and terribly inconsistent.
Well I already have this film pre ordered on Itunes, so I don't feel bad downloading it illegally, technically it's not illegal since I already pre ordered it.

Completely false lol, not that I care

I can wait 6 days

I'm curious as to how me having a negative opinion of this film doesn't make any sense...

Anyways, I'm sure people will love it. Personally, I didn't. At all. I, too, own all of the DCUAOM entries on blu-ray, but I was very disappointed in this one. I didn't particularly care for:
(SPOILERS)
[BLACKOUT] 1) Deathstroke being Ra's choice to take over the League of Assassins before Batman came along. Also, Talia has/had a brother?
2) Deathstroke killing Ra's so early in the film for a fairly weak reason. That, plus the absolute lack of skill, resource, or even weaponry to combat an attack on their base that the League of Assassins had. They looked like chumps. I was especially bummed because the voice actor for Ra'a was excellent and very underused.
3) The animation reminded me of "Justice League: Doom," which to me isn't a good thing. I say this because it felt a little cheap and rushed, since it was a very western style outsourced to be done in an almost anime style, and it didn't really look that super for me at some points.
4) Baccarin's Talia is, like some of the other voices provided in this film, incredibly wooden in delivery.
5) I didn't like that we only got to see snippets of the Nightwing vs Damian fight in the credits in the form of stills. It was out of place, but also something I would've liked to have seen in the movie proper.
6) Damian's turn to adapt his father's ways was waaaaay too sudden.
7) Ubu works for Deathstroke?
8) The horrendous wounds Damian takes to his arms in the final fight do nothing to him at all, and aren't shown or referenced in any way after they happen. Does he have a healing factor or something. Was a bit ridiculous, and yes, I understand what a badass he was raised to be, but still...
9) The film has a pretty tender, serious moment at the very end, but is immediately undercut by a callback to an earlier joke and then... Bam, roll credits.
[/BLACKOUT]

I did, however, like the Alfred/Damien scenes, and some of the action scenes were well executed. I guess I was just expecting something completely different from what we ended up getting. I'm sorry if my opinion doesn't make sense.

Yeah, it was incredibly awful. The characterisation alone was horrifying: Talia retains her characterisation from pre-Morrison - an ultimately decent person yet still in favour of killing, but they kept Damian's backstory that he was a product of rape, which apparently Bruce is okay with.

The rest is equally terrible. Horrible voice acting, the fights go on and on and on and on, and the character designs, particularly Ra's, are rather terrible.

Well this story isn't faithful to the comic story much at all except in some bizarre ways, huh.

THIS really bothered me. He basically says "You date raped me," to which she replies "but you liked it," then Batman shrugs and says "yeah, it was pretty cool I guess. Hooray, I have a kid now."

This was a really bizarre flick that was all over the place in terms of everything, especially characterization. Also... I can't be the only one that was expecting an adaptation of "Batman and Son," right? This movie has ****all to do with that story except for Damian showing up.

I guess she has one of those magic vaginas.

I hate that retcon that Morrison did. Then again, I hate pretty much everything that Morrison did to Talia's character.

It was ok. Far from my favorite but didnt love it or hate it. Animation spent to much time being weak throughout the film.

Alfred was probably the best character in this film with Slade being the worst. He fueled by petty jealousy which just didn't make him likable in any sort of way.

The fight scenes were good, though didn't understand why they bothered having both of Damiens wrists punctured when it didn't do anything to him, he fought as if it didn't even affect him. The LoA were useless and very downplayed, they just kept getting beaten every which way.

Well, to say something nice about Morrison for a rare occasion, I liked that Morrison kept Talia as an independent villain. DC/Batman needs a top tier female villain but Morrison wrecked the star-crossed lovers storyline that Dennis O'Neil put into motion. She became very one-dimensional under Morrison as a result. Some day somebody will figure out that both can be done simultaneously.

I'm a big fan not of changing characterization, but of changing the situations that characters find themselves in and seeing how their traits either help them to succeed or make them fail...to keep things fresh. The latter has to be done or it gets boring.

Well anyway, I kind of dread watching this movie now when I rent it when it's available based on some of what I've read.

I can confirm it's terrible. Batman animated films I hold very dear to my heart and this one is just the balls. Didn't want to finish it.

Interesting... I was really looking forward to this one.

It seems that, minus Flashpoint, the James Tucker-produced features aren't doing too good critically.

Not in this case. Talia as a straight-up villain simply isn't nearly as interesting as her as a conflicted, morally gray character. Especially the way that Morrison did it. If DC wants a top-tier Bat-villain, they have one that they could push into that position. Her name is Poison Ivy.

I enjoyed it. I like it as good as Justice League: War in a different way. I understand that not every animated movie is going to be as good as FlashPoint. To think so, is having unrealistic expectations. I think most of you are being a little harsh with your own reviews. This movie is still a hell lot better than most of the marval animated movies, such as Punisher/Black Widow animie.

I thought the movie was fun, and entertaining. I like Damian more after watching this movie.

So I was able to watch "Son of Batman" last night, and I hate to say that it is easily the worst animated film WB/DC have put out.
I understand that this movie is not your cup of tea, but nothing is worse than Superman: Doomsday. That movie was crap. Son of Batman was fun. I give it a 7.5

If we were comparing them Marvel dtvs then yeah this is a masterpiece. But we arent. At least it has better animation style than Flashpoint.

A lot of these movies are targeted to young teens. I wish they made a rated R batman animated movie similar to the Spawn animated series on HBO. I have a feeling that the Arkham movie will be CGI.

Oh God. He's one of those guys everyone! The one who thinks adding more violence and blood makes it more mature.

The irony is he is probably one of those "young teens" himself that thinks he's more mature but really isn't because he thinks an R rated Batman would be a good idea. The Dark Knight is about as violent and dark as a Batman adaptation should ever be live screen, and Dark Knight Returns was pushing it for an animated film too. Son of Batman however had nothing to warrant all the violence and gore especially at the beginning and it was absolutely RIDICULOUS. However Joker and Batman bleeding out all over the place in Dark Knight Returns was appropriate as it was supposed to be a grizzly and disturbing final confrontation between the two characters. When gore doesn't serve the story it just comes off as juvenile, which it did in "Son of Batman" and at times in "Flashpoint Paradox" the difference is Flashpoint Paradox was good and this movie sucked

Spawn on HBO was not mature because of the Violence and gore. It was mature because of its tone. By the way, how many PG and PG-13 Batman movies did we get? Even Bruce Tim was interested in making a rated R batman movie.

How about we get something new for a change? If you don't like the idea of a Rated R batman flick, then simply don't watch it. Who are you to decide that others can't get a rated r animated Batman flick?
