Batman & Son, Assault on Arkham announced

A decent animated movie.

Though I found the absence of Mark Hamill distracting. I actually thought the new actor did a decent imitation, but it just seems odd when they have so many DCAU / Arkham voice actors reprising the roles but not Hamill.

Mark has retired from the role of The Joker, save for an adaptation of The Killing Joke.

I do wonder if he'll crop up somewhere in Batman: Arkham Knight. Surely Rocksteady has found him something to do in their last Batman game, either as The Joker or another character.

Either way, Arkham City was a heck of way to go and I can only hope Conroy gets to go out with such a bang.

I can see Conroy doing Batman until the day his vocal chords will no longer physically let him lol. Which is a good thing.

Oh I want him to hang around for as long as possible too. There is still nobody better.

I just don't want his swansong to be a mediocre fighting game or something.

The Killing Joke is inevitable. It's the perfect length to adapt to a film. They don't have to cut a single panel. Hell, they could add to the story, not subtract. It's gotta be Conroy and Hamill, and I will die a happy man.

I always said this, yet people feel like its too short. They could add some good substance in there. Get Cranston to voice Gordon again, maybe add dick Grayson in a very minor role (not involved with anything that happens in the main story)

I need The Killing Joke just to have Mark Hamill again in one last epic hurrah(Arkham City was great, but I want him as the Joker to have a much better exit) as much as I love Mask of the Phantasm I want to have a new favorite Batman film. The Killing Joke would be ideal with Hamill and Conroy's involvement to possibly be that film.

I don't think they could stretch The Killing Joke into like 70 minutes. It's not that long.

the killing joke could make a good 20 minutes animated movie.

Eh.... I'd wager closer to 40-45 minutes. Like if they ever did an hour long animated episode of something, with commercials taken into account, it would be perfect.

Wasn't the original story that Superman vs the Elite based off of a single comic? They made that work just fine and it only 32 pages.

TKJ is listed at 64 pages, some of which are for extra content I understand but still.

They could always do a little DC Showcase short to use up the remaining budget.

The Killing Joke is 56 pages. Even at a page a minute, you've got a 56-minute movie. Factor in the opening credits and the closing credits... It's easily the standard 65-minute DC animated film. I don't see the concern.

Honest to goodness, every time I read TKJ, I pretend like it's a movie in my mind because of how cinematic it is, and it's a feature-length film each time. They could EASILY slow the story down and pace it like a drama, especially with the flashbacks of Joker being a comedian and having a pregnant wife. They don't have to add a single thing.

Exactly, its entirely do able as an animated feature. They vould kill it with an all star voice cast.

Yeah the trouble is the content of each of the pages doesn't all add up to a minute's worth of material. Take the opening pages alone of Batman pulling up to the Asylum and walking in. That takes up about 2-3 pages in the comic, and on film that would take about 30-40 seconds to show.

I wouldn't mind a bit of extra dialogue and fluff. As long as it feels natural.

It's the dialogue heavy scenes that would add the length to it. This video is about two and a half pages worth of material, and it was done in 2 and a half minutes;

Theres also a fan made motion comic on you tube with voice over and sound effects that clocks in at around an hour, no intro in the beginning on it either.

Im watching assault on arkham its just alright. It reminds me of Leverage but with villains. The fact that its set in the arkhamverse doesnt mean much either.

the arkham verse is not that interesting imo. Storywise and characterizationwise, if you take away origins from the equation, it's rather weak actually.

It works best as what it was intended to be. And that's a video game. There are not many games where it can bleed into another media still be interesting Imo. And unfortunately the arkhamverse just doesn't work the best outside of video gaming. This movie was lacking in depth and was more distasteful than DCA's other movies imo. Just really mediocre overall.

It wasn't trying to be a deep insightful movie or anything. It was what it was; a fun romp with a team of villains.

DC animated movies don't always have to be deep commentaries on humanity. Sometimes they should just be fun and adventurous without needing to worry about any subtextual message.

Agreed that they don't have to be deep and all that other jazz, but this one just wasn't fun imo. the humor was off and harley was beyond annoying and just about everyone else was worthless too. This was probably my least favorite DCAU movie.

It had some problems but I thought it was a lot of fun. Different strokes.
