I'm currently bidding on a Batman: Year One Hardcover edition on ebay. I'm buying books online at the moment so I won't have to pay the incredibly high priced $40 that I'm charged buying from comic stores, or the $50 from book stores for graphic novels.

I haven't seen the HC edition of Year One ever, what is the difference and extras to the softcover edition? Also, would it be worth going over $30 for it? As there is already 10 bids and it has a day left.

Thank you.

well, it depends on what softcover edition you're talking about. The current softcover version has the same extras as it's hardcover counterpart:

-A newspaper article intro by Frank Miller(an article "written" by Slam Bradley)
-An intro by Denny O'Neil
-An afterwards illustrated and written by David Mazzuchelli
-Covers, inks and compare/contrasts with the original issue and collected edition colors galleries
-promotional art gallery
-sketches gallery
-the introduction to the older Batman: Year One paperback by Frank Miller

There is also an older paperback version that was readily available before this new one, that just had the Frank Miller intro(the non-article one), and i believe that version's HC counterpart was published by Warner Books, but i'm uncertain.

it's a great book, my personal favorite, and worth the money, but i think even 30 bucks might be pushing it. Going over, i'd say forget it. If anything just grab the paperback.

I picked up my hardcover Year One from a local comic shop back in '05, I believe.. a few weeks after it was released.
I think I paid $29.99 for it, and it was also available in the local Barnes & Noble stores for the same price.
Paying a little extra for something that's not so readily available anymore should be expected, and since you can presently get the softcover edition easily (at any local comic shop or mainstream bookstore), your options for owning a quality copy for less are wide open. Get the softcover if you're not trying to invest- I've owned three softcover copies and have given them away over the past five years!
And either way, it's a great story, and worth owning.

I reread Year One last week...and meh. It still doesn't do much for me for some reason.
