The Dark Knight Batman's Theme Music in TDK

What is his background? I hope you're kidding. Go to his imdb page and you'll see, if you're asking this question honestly. He's worked in MANY movies, and successfully so.

Edit: Oh, somebody beat me to it, good job Eric Steel.

Holy christ, Hans Zimmer is one of the best composers of all time. What is his background? Mercy...

Look this isn't B89. Its totally different. For that movie, Elfman was PERFECT. For THAT MOVIE. His theme wouldn't work with BB or TDK. Its hard to explain it in words, just imagine the B89 theme being played over some scenes in BB, like the one where its just a pan around of Batman standing on top of a building. It doesn't fit. The tone is different, everything is different. It doesn't make much sense to compare the two soundtracks.

ACtually, there are videos in youtube where the Elfman theme is played over Begins footage. And you're right, it doesn't stick.

We've heard variations of Zimmer's Batman theme countless number of times in Batman Begins itself. I believe the only time we heard Zimmer's Batman theme in it's full glory was in the last 35 or so seconds of the 10 minute Smallville preview.

Here, it starts from the 9:15 mark all the way to the end:

I have to agree with Conebone69. The music was as irrelevant as in every other video I've seen.

i agree 100%.

what makes me angry is that on hte album it is not the same. a similar mix was used in the char chase. a similar mix was used in the final theatrical trailer. and a similar mix was used in the japanese(or was it chinese?) dvd trailer

all mixes are IMO better then the one on the album. to bad that this is the only official music that we have. :csad:

but i think that this is the theme that will get updated in TDK and i hope it is. it is incredible.

To be frank, I like the piece of music the OP spoke of. But anyway, I'm sure the theme will evolve and I'm looking forward to it.

What does Jamems Newton Howard do? It seems like Hans Zimmer gets all the credit. Do they bounce ideas off of each other? Because James Newton Howard aint no chump at writing themes. His score for King Kong was amazing. Hans Zimmer has realy improved his themes aswell. Davy jones' and The Krakens theme are gold.

I really hope they combine their talents and make a really great Theme and score for TDK. I thought BB's score was near perfection, so I can wait too hear what they cook up this time around.

I think Newton Howard did all the sentimental and more quiet pieces of music in BB. I like him very much, although I hate his King Kong score (heck, I hate the whole movie), however he was brought in last minute, so it's understandable.

i always liked that theme in the trailer. I was dissppointed when i bought the soundtrack and it had been ommitted. But if its to be used again then that would be great for me.

i like the "batman hasnt earned it yet" cause in bb there wasn't that much batman in it. so i understand but now in tdk we should def. get a theme

Except there was no theme, and I don't think it was a matter of topping Elfman's (basically impossible in my mind). Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard (who is never given any credit by fans for some reason) are professionals and when they develop a movie's score, they are fully aware of things like themes and what they're supposed to evoke and if they left one out, its not because they forgot, its because they had a reason.

People are now calling it an excuse, but it really isn't one. Zimmer and Howard have never been aked to compare themselves to Elfman's work, instead they were asked why there wasn't a constant theme for Batman. They explained their thought process, the one that Christopher nolan would have had to fully approve. Its not a case of "Crap, we did bad" or "Jeez, did we forget that? Golly gosh," its a case of three men, who arrived at an artistic decision which some people wil embrace while others will not.

Yes there was a theme for Batman/Bruce Wayne and it is used for both characters.

"Molossus" features it and it is repeated many times throughout the whole movie in different tones (sad for the Wayne's killing scene and epic for the Tumbler's chase), the same as Danny Elfman's theme in B89, as a leit motiv.

And since there was a clear bat-theme, the rest of the "earned theme" stuff sounds like bs.

Now, with so many people comparing the score to Elfman's one, one tends to think it could be a reason to change the already existant theme.

As for me, I liked the whole score for BB, I think it's useless to compare it to Elfman's since it is actually quite good and I simply loved the Batman theme so I can't see the point of changing it.

I hate his King Kong score (heck, I hate the whole movie)

LOL. I agree.

Good. I liked the Begins theme but this time I want a theme for Batman that is iconic and memorable.

i agree with you, it would be pretty cool if we get at least one little peace of the old theme, it would be even better if it was the Mask of the phantasm theme, with the opera *****

The theme from B89/ Mask of the Phantasm just doesn't fit with Nolan's Batman movies. Theres a reason why they didn't use Elfman.

well theres only one batman movie out there we havent even seen this second one... but w/e

how has batman not earned his theme? he saved gotham at the expense of his family home, his potential relationship with rachel, and his own well-being. what else does he have to do? cure cancer?

The first one he wasn't already established as Batman, it was an origin film, it was only at the end where he really was recognized. So thus the abscence of a theme for him. You can expect one in TDK.

And for the last time, the themes from B89 DO NOT WORK with Batman Begins and won't work with TDK.

Zimmer does make sense. Batman hadn't really earned the right to have a theme in the first film.
