Battlefield 3

Honestly, taking down buildings was the only thing I liked in bad company 2 over mw2. I thought it was amazing everytime I did it, that is a huge shame that its being nerfed. Whats the point of frostbite 2.0 if it can't do something that frostbite 1.0 could do

I agree, altho just about everything in BC2 was better than anything in MW2, but the complete destruction the buildings had was a huge plus. I think it's going to be a massive mistake to remove that for BF3

Wait, so how is Frostbite 2.0 a '2.0' upgrade? What exactly is that engine capable of if things aren't totally destructible?

Got me man.

I still can't believe they won't have full destruction in this game.

I think they don't have full destruction because the levels are cities, and it would just be either too difficult or not possible to make entire skyscrapers drop in real time while all the other crap is exploding.

Yeah, I don't completely mind, because lets be honest, in BC 2 the trade off for having full destruction was every room and building looking like the same, empty log cabin. As long as I can still destroy a Snipers cover with an RPG, i'm fine.

The actual destructibility itself is better. Everything in Bad Company 2 was like plywood. From the footage it's pretty clear the materials are acting more like materials rather than all the same material. Real time radiosity. Full DX11 support. High quility full-screen motion blur. Build for 64 bit. It also uses MLAA which is a low cost performance version of aliasing so consoles will have cleaner edges (most console games use no AA). It's probably better optimised too, higher detail with similar performance.

When are they going to officially reveal the multiplayer? You think EA would want to one-up MW3, since Activision's not showing the multiplayer until that COD event they're doing.

To be fair, Valve pretty much do the exact same thing with Valve games. You can't buy them through anything other than steam or retail. Valve get off though because they are awsome.
The rest of the companies out there are a bunch of dirty rats who smoke cigars and snort cocaine off prostitutes backs.

Valve is the same as everyone else, stop kidding yourself.

Also, smoking cigars and snorting coke off of prostitutes backs isnt that bad. Id assume its a fairly entertaining Saturday night.

Nope, Valve had and has a very different philosophy from most other developers right from the start. For Halflife Valve hired modders as well as developers. Which I'm pretty sure wasn't done before, at least for a AAA game. Also unlike other developers that closed off content, Valve openly allowed people to alter the engine. Which lead to Counterstrike and the Team Fortress team being hired.

While developers were busy trying to stop people downloading there games, Valve seen a future of games being a service rather than just buying a good to be discarded. And more or less popularized digital distribution across all platforms. Even when you look at things that are in the primordial stage of streaming like online, that's a service and probably is the future of gaming.

Another good example is Team Fortress 2. Rather than banging about 4 maps for £20 then re-releasing the game every X month. They selected the cream of the crop user made maps and gave players the option to buy stamps to support the very best maps. This also applied to cosmetic items, much of which were designed by the community itself. This made users who made good content, tens of thousands of dollars. All of which, optional. It's went from something like 4 maps to 50. Which dozens of new abilitys and weapons. All the map packs made by Valve themselfs or otherwise haven't cost a penny and the reason they do on Xbox is because of Microsoft being greedy piglets.

Another example would be cross-play. If you buy a game for the Mac, you can also use it across the pc and vice versa without any extra charge. to promote this feature as well as Portal 2, they basically gave Portal away for free. Likewise with Alien Swarm.

Seeing free2play was the future, they added free2play to steam. As well as turning Team Fortress 2 into a free2play game to generate revenue. This is probably the case with Dota 2 as well, which itself was created by modders. This will happen on consoles and in fact, is.

I don't trust EA. They are mostly jerks. Not as big a jerks as Activision or Ubisoft but they are still big jerks. It's too bad Gabe Newell will probably die prematurely due to morbid obesity he's such a wonderful person.

Speaking of Ubisoft, I read somewere they are making a pass to combat re-sales but it isn't free, it's something like £9? Seriously? This is what gaming has come too?

Valve likes money just as much as Ubi/EA and Activision(ok maybe not as much as Activision). Altho those companies prob have far more overhead and need to do more to make up the difference. Eventually though it all leads to the same place. They're no different. They just do a better job at making you feel warm and fuzzy. Like Starbucks. People go to Starbucks because they think they are getting a custom experience the likes found in a locally owned coffee shop, they aren't.

Yea which id assume itd be available exclusively on that, but hearing that its gonna be on gamestops digital system was kind of odd.

But I am getting a custom experience. I just gave you several examples of what they done that no other company done or indeed, are doing.

Another upcoming example up will be Dota 2. Very hardcore game with what is generally considered a jerk community, like alot of hardcore games. Valve plans to reward players for teaching other players and punish players who are jerks. Not just with Dota 2, this is something they would like to do with all games. And if you have seen what they have been able to do with steam using direct rewards, they do have the ability to do this. That's a proper social service, a free one. Not only does it allow them to make more money by widening the community, it also benifits core gamers by A) Not dumbing the game down and B) Making it more user freindly

If this was Bethesda or Bioware they would probably just dumb the game down. If this was Ubisoft, EA or Activision, they would probably bang out £1.99 - £10.99 DLC, then make 50 spin-offs, then dive it into the ground.

To EA's credit though, Bad Company 2 did get free map packs along with this socail thingy. Which is the right thing to do to make Call Of Duty look bad.

Valve does some great things with their user base, that i can agree with, but they aren't exempt from greed as you seem to think. Left 4 Dead 2 was a good example.

I was one of the people complaining about it.
However, I have received about 1/3 extra at no charge at all. They are also combining the content of Left4dead 1 with Left4dead 2 even if you do not own Left4dead 1. It's kinda hard to complain now.

I just got an email from EA inviting me to participate in the Alpha Beta.

I cant participate because i have no PC
