In FPS, that's what is is the majority of the time, COD games included.

Other (better) games like Halflife 2 use it mainly in the introduction as a means to guide the player. The game then later opens up with the "magic door" disappearing. Batman: Arkham Asylum doesn't actually use it to guide the player at all. It's very smooth and if it wasn't for the "loading" message, I probably wouldn't notice it at all. It's very much like Crysis 2 in that it uses small tight levels that can be approached in a non-linear manner. The fact it's streaming doesn't force it to be linear. It's the opposite.

Call Of Dutys "magic door", the "on the rail" sequences, the AI men running around with you shouting "shoot here" "follow me". Using scripted sequences to stop the player progressing are used to make the game require as little input as humanly possible. In fact, I recall a fellow posted a 20 minute video were he basically does do nothing.

This is what it has done to first person shooters.

It's not really a deal breaker, I am buying it for the mulitplayer.
But it would be nice to have a decent single player that I wont forget about in 20 minutes time.

I couldnt care less about the sp. I mean I'll be surprised if I even finish it.

Hell, I'll be suprised if I even play the sp, I barely remember the story for BF2

Yea, i HATED the sp for Bad Company 2. Still dont know why i spent the time to go through it. Very few sp/mp games i get that i go directly into the MP, but this will absolutely be one of them. Gears 3 will be another.

I'll more than likely play through the sp on Gears 3, that wont take long then I'll jump right to the mp, so give me a day or so and we'll get on some matches :awesome:

I was watching "Gametrailers TV" (why I have no idea) with the odious Geoff Knightley and it actually spent an entire segment of the show advertising gamestop. It didn't actually give any new info, any new footage. Nothing. Just an entire segment on gamespot. He even goes into a random gamestop store, for no valid reason other than to advertise it. :awesome:

The Beta begins for all platforms on Sept 29th, Sep 27th for early access individuals.

Can not wait for this game. Won't be able to get the beta, but whatever. I am pumped to play this ****er on my PS3. That caspian border trailer was incredible

PS3 to have DLC one week before the other systems.

On one hand it's not surprising considering EAs and Sonys relationship but on the other it is due to the fact the 360 and PC will more than likely dwarf the sales and number of users online. Guess that's why Sony felt the need to pay out for the timed exclusive

PS3 gets awesome BF3 dlc early, xbox gets crap ass cod dlc esrly. Not a fair trade

I hope Sony didn't pay much for that exclusive because one week is not a big deal at all nor will it change anyone's minds about what system to buy the game for.

It's going to become less and less about exclusive games and more and more about exclusive content. Which will just convolute games like rubik's cube fragmenting customer value. It's getting pretty ridiculous. Hell, with all the pre-order and anti-used copy crap, it already was.

*EA charges 15 bucks for BF3 dlc too* Problem?

I'm excited for the beta next week, I hope my friends like it so that they'll get BF3 too.

Ill take a Treyarch map pack over Vietnam any day of the week

Actually, most of those Treyarch Map packs were pretty good... And I'll take map packs easily over the way BFBC 2 cheaply let people get top tier weapons and full kit unlocks for a price. That was just totally lame. It took away all the significance of actually earning your weapons.

I may not be a fan of the COD brand in general, but I still enjoy Black Ops from time to time. The hardcore COD players annoy me just as much as they annoy anyone else, but it's very elitist and fashionable to simply rag on everything COD as 'tacky'. BF and COD simply offer different experiences. I've always seen COD as more of an arcadey shooter, like Goldeneye was, more about one on one fights, personal achievements and kill streaks and whatnot, whereas battlefield was more of a mature war simulation game that relied more heavily on teamwork and strategy. Just because you like one, doesn't mean you have to hate the other, nor does it mean you have to show contempt to people who like both.
