any other director would simply be called on making a poor movie, but when it's someone one has an affinity for, we get this sort of response. "He was paid to literally make a bad film...he probably didn't want to tho.."

nah.

Except Peter Berg isn't a bad director. This is the guy who gave us The Kingdom, The Rundown and Friday Night Lights (and to a lesser extent Hancock).

Someone I know said it was one of the sickest movies he's ever seen on a social networking website.

Lost some respect for the dude.

okay. Well then the ending to this movie became a bit more believable.

However...

I don't think the Missouri was still equipped with ammunition and missiles and stuff... they were luckily still aboard that "museum" ship

i am not sure but a few of my buddies who are still in the Navy liked it so Im going tomorrow to see it

So now that Battleship has been made, the next movie to look forward to is...

Usually, yeah. Which is a very dumb reason, since there aren't any resources you can find on Earth you can't find in space (and get them more easily). That's bad writing 101 right there. Unless they've come for the cows.

Personally, I disagree. It's not necessarily the most fulfilling or original reason, however at the same time it's one I can overlook as when you goto see an Alien Invasion type film, typically the story isn't about the aliens. It's more about individual characters & how they grow throughout the film.

Also there are alot of things that our planet has resource wise that you can't get on other planets. Particularly when you think that those Aliens would come from a planet that can obviously sustain life, & in our solar system anyway there are no planets remotely similar to our own that could sustain any life that we are aware of anyway. So naturally they'd either want out planet to themselves or want to take things from it back to their own.

But most movies at least give you a reason, even if it's a very dumb one like Independence Day, or the dumbest I've ever seen, Cowboys and Aliens.

I've not seen Cowboys & Aliens however the Independence Day reason was pretty much the same, didn't the President say after the Alien messed with his head & he somehow got to see what the Aliens did on a planet... :woot:.. anyway that they move from planet to planet consuming their resources & then moving on..?

I think the next "alien invasion" movie should actually include aliens who are similar to us... I'm getting tired of evil monster looking creatures. I almost thought for a moment the aliens DID RESEMBLE HUMANS when you first saw them through their Halo-type armor... but then they ended up being snake-like-creatures with poor eye-sight... lol

The evil transformers had goals? I thought all they wanted to do was "Hey there are autobots in major cities here, let's go **** their **** up!" :awesome: :oldrazz:

I haven't seen Battleship, but it seems like the same idea.

Not sure if serious.
What's more interesting is that in TDK you have a character that proclaims to the world that he doesn't have a tangible goal...things are getting kinda mixed up here.

Except Peter Berg isn't a bad director. This is the guy who gave us The Kingdom, The Rundown and Friday Night Lights (and to a lesser extent Hancock).

Kingdom got mix reviews, The Rundown wasn't a "good film" by modern critical standards(aka deep meaning and substance etc) and Hancock was ill conceived at best. FNL was great.

I love Berg, but to actually hear that the director decided to make a bad film is a first for me. I've been saying similar things for years.

One other thing I did like was that the aliens in their suits kind of reminded me of smaller versions of the big daddy from Bioshock. They wouldn't attack unless you posed a threat first.

Is anyone else getting annoyed with this being called BATTLESHI*? That's about as clever as this movie appears to be.

You'll be even more annoyed tomorrow when you hear all the news stories with variations on the phrase "you sunk my battleship."

Friday Box Office – THE AVENGERS Continue to Soar as BATTLESHIP Founders
by Nicole Pedersen Posted:May 19th, 2012 at 9:10 am

For the first time this month audiences had more than one new release to tempt them into theatres. Trouble is, no one seemed particularly tempted by the three titles that lined up to take down The Avengers. With an estimated $15.3 million on Friday, the Marvel superheroes are now assured their third weekend title with a projected $55 million. That won’t be a record, but who cares? At $1.048 billion worldwide, the film is already Disney’s highest-grossing release of all time. In second place, Universal’s Battleship took in an estimated $9 million from its 3,690 locations for a projected $26 million first weekend. Not only is that well below expectations for the pricey live-action boardgame, it’s also less than John Carter earned for its debut back in March. Draw your own conclusions. After opening to $4.1 million on Wednesday, Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator took in an estimated $5.7 million on Friday towards what should be a $16 million first weekend. Finally, What to Expect When You’re Expecting saw an estimated $3.9 million from 3,021 locations on Friday. Not exactly what Lionsgate was, um, expecting from their ensemble comedy. Full details tomorrow.

Title Friday Total
1 The Avengers $15,300,000 $417.3
2 Battleship $9,000,000 $9
3 The Dictator $5,700,000 $12.7
4 What to Expect When You’re Expecting $3,900,000 $3.9
5 Dark Shadows $3,800,000 $41.9

Idk Octoberist, but I dont see his star rising anytime soon

Wow, it's gonna be insane if Avengers holds the top spot at the box office this week. I thought for sure Battleship would be the one to push it to number 2. Can you imagine if MIB 3 opens up to similar numbers? Yeesh.

Congratulations Battleship you are the first movie I've ever walked out on.

I feel bad for anyone in that position and I hope his career recovers with Oliver Stone's Savages.

It tells me again that finding the leading man isn't a calculating process but totally arbitrary. Usually, rising actors are the ones who gain a rep and shine through smaller films..like Joseph Gordon Levitt, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender. It's a more organic path and they gained a fanbase because we knew they had to earn their stardom by working hard and putting out good smaller work.

Now sometimes that path doesn't gain an actor any traction because I still feel that Guy Pierce, Cillian Murphy and Sam Rockwell still are not getting the mainstream love they deserve.

i can see RISK being the next board game flick. a cold war spy film.

Not sure if serious.

The Joker was promoting anarchy and nihilism. He claimed that his mission was to expose the 'schemers' but in reality, he was scheming to bring society down to his level. The Joker always had a goal, and it was to corrupt and destroy the system.

Kingdom got mix reviews, The Rundown wasn't a "good film" by modern critical standards(aka deep meaning and substance etc) and Hancock was ill conceived at best. FNL was great.

I. Don't. Care. What. The. Critics. Thought.

The Kingdom was a great movie and the only reason why it was met with mixed reviews is because it wasn't Pro-American (per se). Berg actually bothered to present accurate history and policies in a movie about oil, terrorism and foreign relations. The ending scene to the movie involving the little boy and the FBI investigators was gold. It presented the mentality of both sides -- a simple thin line between terrorism and heroism.

And I applaud Peter Berg for going that route.

The Rundown was a solid B-level action flick. It was nowhere near mediocre.

The Kingdom was like Body of Lies (but not as good) in that it dared to show the US as perhaps wrong, or at least, not right, in the war on terror. Audiences didn't appreciate that i don't think, not in the US anyway.

And the problem the critics had with it is that it tried to be both a formulaic action thriller and have a message, but kinda got it muddled. Still decent though.

Similar things happened with Ironmans release. Replace these last two flops with anticipated or even solid films and the numbers would be rather different. That being said Avengers is going great.

As far as the GA's concerned, I'd say the Decepticons goals are alot more readable than that.

Die you son of a ***** movie, die!
