So I was on vacation, in the mountains of West Virginia, for most of last week. My family rented this massive cabin, and we had this pseudo reunion of sorts. Anyway, at about 12 AM one night, my wife is walking downstairs, where you can sort of see into the kitchen, and see stops, says "There's a bear in the house" very calmly, and then sort of walks away. I go into the kitchen, and there's a black bear about halfway in the window over the sink, having ripped out the screen, struggling like hell to get in, and it's a bit intense, but simultaneously one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It struggled for a moment, looked at me, looked around the kitchen, and then struggled back out the window, at which point my aunt came in and hollered for it to shoo. Naturally my family spent the next few days trying to see the bear again.

Anyone have any good bear stories? Or any other wild animals, for that matter?

I'm suddenly reminded of The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd.

Trampoline Bear Lives!

I worked for the Department of Environmental Protection for awhile and one day a call came in to me because of a black bear in the park, so I went home instead.

I've always considered bears quite the threat ever since watching Grizzly Man. Timothy Tredwell practically spoke bear, and they still tore his skull in half.

Black Bears are pretty common in West Virginia. I've had a couple in my yard. One time there was a lady who had one sleeping in her bed when she came home.

Where in WV were you?

Hahaha! That's the first thing that I thought of too.

Big...bear...chase me. Big...bear....big bear....big bear chase me. BIG BEAR CHASE ME!

*BOOM*

They just don't make awesome movies like that anymore. :csad:

when i was like 13ish, my friends and i had our picture taken with a bear and one my friends dug the pic up and posted it on myspace a couple days ago. that's the only bear story, i got. :csad:

I have seen several dozen black bears in my life. Pretty common from where I live, nothing really memorable.

Although when I was young a grizzly bear had escaped from a circus that was travelling through town. It ended up in our "back yard". I say it like that as my father had cleared a bunch of land behind our house so you could see quite far down the field.

Anyway, we spotted the thing about 300 feet away. He looked huge from even where we were. My father and his friend decide to hop into the ol' pick up truck and try to chase him away. Next thing I know I see the bear running and my father and his friend closely behind him in the truck (which looked smaller than the damn bear).

Black bears is such a racist term. I cannot believe that The Guard would automatically think that the bear breaking into his cabin was black. YOU RACIST!!!
