Bears

It's a pear bear, I guess. Or a bear pear. Hard to say.

So I was on vacation, in the mountains of West Virginia, for most of last week. My family rented this massive cabin, and we had this pseudo reunion of sorts. Anyway, at about 12 AM one night, my wife is walking downstairs, where you can sort of see into the kitchen, and see stops, says "There's a bear in the house" very calmly, and then sort of walks away. I go into the kitchen, and there's a black bear about halfway in the window over the sink, having ripped out the screen, struggling like hell to get in, and it's a bit intense, but simultaneously one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It struggled for a moment, looked at me, looked around the kitchen, and then struggled back out the window, at which point my aunt came in and hollered for it to shoo. Naturally my family spent the next few days trying to see the bear again.

Anyone have any good bear stories? Or any other wild animals, for that matter?

I used to live in the north Georgia mountains and we used to see black bears all the time. When I graduated high school, we took a vacation to Alaska and saw a few Grizzly bears. TV really does no justice to the size of these animals. They were huge.

My mom lives in the bush in Northern Ontario. When I visit her I take her dog for a run. One morning bright and early the dog and I slam out the front door and start our run. We reach the main road and head towards the nearest town (the dog is on a leash, our run usually turns around at the town limits). As we turn onto the road in front of us we see mama bear and her 2 cubs crossing the road. The dog wants to keep going but I stop dead and hold him (no small feat, he's part black lab). The dog is barking like mad and I'm staring momma bear down. She looks at us, sees we're not coming any closer and continues trundeling on her way into the bush on the opposite side of the road from my parent's house. Older cub stands up for a moment to get a good look at us and follows momma, younger cub follows older cub. Once I can't see the bears any more I convince the dog that the run has to go the opposite direction this morning. Afterwards, all I can figure is that the bears were into the berry bushes behind my parents house and headed away from the house and toward the road when they heard the slamming of the door.

I had a friend who went to Canada once, went camping, and apparently he and his family got backed up against a tree.

:D well, if you're bare and backed up against a tree... ;)

Bear story:

When I was about 15, My family went camping in Yosemite. We had a trailer that had 4 beds in it, but I was tired of trying to sleep with my Dad snoring away, so I got a tent and started to camp outside. Well, about 2 days into this trip, I wake up to something rustling by my tent, and breathing loud and stuff, at first I assume it is a bear, but I figure I'm just being paranoid, but then I hear people banging pots and pans and a window breaking. I get up and everybody i like, "oh my god! bear!" one of our neighbors had his back window of his Ford Explorer broken open. We run to where more people are banging pots, and there is a bear across the stream leaning against a tree eating Goldfish crackers out of a box. Our dumb ass neighbor left them in his car.

The next day our neighbor is driving us down to the river and the inside of his car was covered in Bear hair and smelled like absolute ****.
