hi been reading on the net on some movies i thought would be sure hits but kind of semi bombed. and a question came too mind what does have too happen for a good sci- fi slash fantasy movie too make it big? if it based on certain books. if so why did twilight or the hunger games make it big while movies like the maze runner, the giver, Ender's Game were week at the box office or did not make it too be huge hits for starting there own franchise..
i guess what im asking is what do u think drives the big movie studio makers and bosses these days is it profit greed gambling all of those things put together?
because in the 70s 80s or early 90s movie makers who had visions
were sometimes embraced or encouraged by the industry and now days if a if these kind of movies don't became a huge gigantic box office smash then usually because of a number of so called lacks of, all attempts at making a fallow up movie or sequel are squashed and never thought off again. whats changed in the movie industry who embraced movies like the Halloween Texas chainsaw massacre alien terminator nightmare on elm and its sequels and now only think about gains and loses?.
be gladd for any further thoughts on this
johnny.

It's show business. Profits matter. And profits comes from whatever majority of people want. And apparently majority of people just want to see visual effects and explosions and that's why the Bay-fied Transformers is still raking in cash. The kind of romance from the Twilight books and 50 shades is also popular to a lot of women so those kind of movies are still being made. Hard sci-fi or stories that requires a lot of attention and understanding such as Edge of Tomorrow and Ender's Game isn't exciting to the majority of people and that's why these kind of movies aren't being made.

ya thanks for the input makes me kind of think that if half of the science fiction and fantasy stuff that today's late thirteens too early forties age range crowd grew up on like all the blade runner star wars alien terminator movies were made today instead of there respectable years due dates they wouldn't even gotten of the ground so too speak because
no one would have probably given the green light for them too be made because they would have been deemed too expensive too make there for profit equals loss. makes you kind of think how we really were lucky back then.
