So I saw Eragon on DVD this week.
My reaction.
With the exception of Lord of the Rings, is it possible for Hollywood to make a movie with swords, sorcery, and all that jazz that doesn't suck?
Maybe these movies sound better on the written page? Watching Eragon, it seems like a ridiculous concept, and I wonder what the movie makers were thinking in the first place. I didn't think Narnia and other hyped fantasy movies were all that compelling.
I guess the Harry Potter movies are okay. Conan the Barbarian will always be the shiznit. But most films that I watch on these subjects... well... suck. As someone who enjoys reading fantasy genre novels, I wonder if it's the screenplay, director and actors, or just that these subjects require so much of the imagination to fully appreciate them that it's very difficult to adapt them successfully to the big screen?
