WOW. Great progression, it's more detailed. Out of curiousity, how much does it cost to make this suit? The whole process that is.
Thanks!
Cost is alwasy hard to determine when it's being applied to a personal project.
I work on it in between other projects, and in my spare time...mainly evenings really late at night.
The pure cost of the sculpt is not that much. 60.00 worth of clay at the most so far for the chest and legs, approx 50.00 for the cowl...If I was to add my time in there somehow, even at $5.00.00 an hour...then the cost of this would go through the roof. Seeing as it's not made for sale, then my time is irrellivant as this becomes nothing more than a hobby piece.
The molds will add up because I will mold the entire costume 3 different times and using a combination of Silicones and Fiberglass. These stages are necessary to get the final copy of the costume to look spot on to the movie suit.
Consider that the sculpt is rather inexpensive where as the molds will easily add up to the low thousands.
Once we have the final molds, it's time to cast up the wearable suit. I will probably do several versions....Foam Latex like in the movie and a Silicone one as used in the film also... for one of the more 'heated' scenes. Both of these materials will add up quickly cost wise.
Silicone I can inject into my molds myself but foam latex I have to go to a collegue of mine locally...pay him his time and so on so for foam it will be Ca'chinga'ching'ching......insert cash register sounds here.
Finally after all that I'll probably try a simple latex copy of the suit and see how that looks.
This whole project can easily get out of hand cost wise if I'm not carefull. I do have the luxury of time because I dont have any real deadlines other than the ones I've set for myself such as the March 5th Prop party where I want to have the cowl, chest and belt ready to show.
Being that I rarely make something exclusively for myself I figured for this time why not....I work hard on everything that I do and really for once wanted to do something for myself.
It's not about being the best or the worst....as long as I know I'm doing the best that I can and that I havent taken any short-cuts or compromises that make me regret doing any part of this, then I will have accomplished exactly what I started out to do which was work to the best of my abilities, and never look back.....
.....it also helps when I read the feedback and support by you guys on my work. Trust me, when you dont have a boss or a manager at work to push you to do your job you need to keep yourself motivated on your own. That's where you guys come into play and I truly appreciate all the support so far!!!
