Ben Affleck To Team With DC’s Geoff Johns On Standalone ‘Batman’ Film - Part 3

I said it in the last thread.. but they need to scrap this script and just do an Arkham Asylum movie. This is what the fans want. We don't want Deathstroke as the main villain, he's not a Batman villain, he's a Titans villain.

DC needs to get their stuff together, things are not ok behind the scenes. That much is obvious.

Lmao, I know guys, but it's out of control right now. Once the Affleck thing was confirmed, it's awesome to to hear Collider pretty much come out with the passion on their roundtable and basically go off on the very same things we here are saying. It's a crazy position WB is in right now and something they NEED to breath, step back and address eventually.

The popcorn is freakin' ready...

I'm down for a DCEU delay. Just slow down and get a Feige character in there that knows how to fix this.

Slow it down WB, you don't know what the hell you're doing! Take a step back and figure it out.

It'd be nice if Geoff Johns came out and set the record straight a bit. We really haven't heard much from him and Berg since they were hired into their roles last May.

Clay Enos said something interested about these types of people in these types of jobs. He said (paraphrasing) the people behind the scenes are working their tail's off, hears the fans screams loud and clear but aren't designed to answer to every little rumor or piece of negativity out there because that's not their focus.

It would be nice to hear something on the matter, though. There's way too much to reel in. The fanbase needs reassured on many things, but we'll take maybe one thing at this point to clear the air.

Exactly. Johns and Berg really need to handle the PR better. We need to hear from them about their vision of the DCU, what they are planning, to get a better idea of whats going on. Sure they may choose not to do it, maybe they are still figuring stuff out. But its bad PR to stay shut. I saw Clay Enos tweeting yesterday that they are just focused on impressing us in the theatre, not with words, and while thats an admirable sentiment, but its just bad PR to stay silent now. Just my opinion.

Thats why Im okay with Affleck looking for another director to partner him. Shows that they are not going to rush it to meet a 2018 release date. Same with the Flash and its rewrite. Rather get it right rather than rush it.

It's not necessarily answering every little rumor or negativity though. It's addressing a clear trend. They're losing directors, they keep adding new projects to their slate without a timetable in sight, they're pushing films back seemingly without consequence, they moved Justice League 2 to come out after a Batman movie that is up in the air at this point.

When you look at all of this as a collective, it reeks of a rudderless ship. And they're the producers overseeing it all. They don't have to shoot down every little thing, but offering some type of interaction with the fanbase would go a long way in changing that current narrative.

I'd wait until WW and JL are out and we hear the reception before they change leadership heads again. Like I said this is probably Affleck not wanting to burn himself out again like he did from 2015 to 2016

It's just so hard for me to care. I've never been invested in Batman no matter how many things I've seen with him in it. I started as a Superman fan first who loved Lois Lane and recently became invested in Wonder Woman. I care that the DCEU is okay and that fans of Batman are happy, but in terms of direct investment, I am just not in the same place as some.

So when I hear the news of some of the changes to Batman or other films, it makes me almost more relieved rather than less. It makes me think that whatever set up they had that brought them disappointments in BvS and SS, they aren't just going to keep going without trying new things. If that means slowing down or bringing in new people who have the skill and energy to do the job better, then that seems good to me.

I'm also comfortable to stay in a "wait and see" mode. The world is too full of daily real concerns, especially political, that living in the moment means those things take precedent. I also have more knowledge and control over things in real life, so I'm more comfortable just letting things go and letting things be when it comes to what might or might not happen with the DCEU. That isn't to say I judge anyone who does care more than that, because I certainly understand how entertainment can be an escape, and I respect the need and value of such an escape. I also respect how much these properties mean to people because of past attachments or the inspiration and joy they can provide. They also facilitate community, like this place, and community, conversation, and even friends are important.

I just realized with this Affleck announcement how little I care about Batman. I want things to work out, though, for those that do, and I want the DCEU to be in good shape. So hopefully things will turn out okay.

Yeah, pretty much. Everybody and everybody is talking BUT WB or any of its producers. It's a frustrating thing overall, but more importantly to us. It shouldn't be hard to entertain the thought about addressing some of these things. It gives paranoia a need to run wild. It's either AS bad as it looks or not as bad as we all think. There's practically zero silver lining right now because God Forbid if you release the JL trailer. Then you will see Affleck in it knowing whats takin' place. Not a good look.

No it would not. Only way to fix that is to have a movie that critics don't rip apart.

Well now that explains your posts about Batman from the last month.

This is the perfect opportunity to take Deathstroke out of the picture. Great villain, one of my favorites, but he belongs in Justice League and Teen Titans movies. He SHOULDN'T be taking the spot of main villain of a Batman movie away from a more deserving villain.

There are no good Batman/Deathstroke stories. All the Nolan movies took huge inspiration from major stories BB: Year One TDK: TLH and TKJ and TDKR: Knightfall and No Man's Land

i want to see the new movies similarly take inspiration from the comics. Ideally from Morrison's ASHOSE and Death in the Family

Then you have stuff coming out like the Rock posing in front of DC headquarters and having meetings with high execs to go over the plan of the DCEU and what is to come. It fired him up to be apart of it so where does all of that stand?

Yup. I don't mean this to be rude but they interact with fans to address rumors and then what? They get accused of lying or playing spin just like they did when they promised up and down there were no problems with Suicide Squad behind the scenes and that the reshoots were just a minor formality?

A big movie studio is almost never gonna admit "We're in trouble but we're trying to find a way to course correct."

I really don't see why we're owed any explanation. Films get delayed, lose directors, get announced, get cancelled, etc. This isn't new.

Iron Man franchise lost Terrence Howard, Favreau stepped down as director, Blunt backed out of Black Widow. Marvel dumped Ed Norton and nearly lost Rourke and Sam Jackson due to low-balling. Edgar Wright backed outta Ant-Man and took a few cast members with him. Then they lost Patty Jenkins and had Portman talking trash about the whole thing. Ava DuVernay publicly turning down BP. Pushing BP back for yet ANOTHER Spider-Man film. Dumping Inhuman from the MCU schedule.

Ultimately, who cares? We got some good and bad movies out of it all and the world kept on spinning. I truly don't care about what happens behind the scenes. We'll get the movies when we get them.

I think the problem is the slate. We have absolutely no idea what anything is anymore. That's all that needs to be done if things are in fact, in order. All of behind the stuff happens so I'm not surprised, we just need SOME sort of direction, that's all. The "wait and see" approach is probably the most patient thing we can oppose to right now.

Don't you know? This is DCEU, nobody cares about positive news! :o

I'm of the mind that maybe, just maybe, WB/Johns/Berg sees MCU getting a pass on all the same production troubles they got, but DCEU is getting all types of **** for it, that they pretty much said eff it, we're not going to address anything because it'll just lead to more talk that we're doing dmg control or clickbait articles, etc, etc. We'll just show you whats up with the actual films.

But why? The slate is what got them in trouble in the first place. You release a slate, so fans feel comfortable. Then what happens when it needs to change? Fans freak out. This seems to only be a thing with CBMs and I don't see the reasoning. The DCEU has attracted some high profile talent and when you do that, you shouldn't expect everything to go smoothly because creative control is gonna be a factor. Schedules are gonna be a factor. I'll take that though because, whether I love or hate it, I know I'll get something interesting. And we're adults. We can wait for a movie.

But if I were running WB I'd just keep y'all asses in the dark and make the movies when I'm ready. :oldrazz:

Pretty much. At this point, their bad news outweighs their good news. And good news just gets chalked up to being a PR stunt. Like I said above, best to just keep us in the dark. They don't benefit from full transparency.
