Well if season six is the Rise of Lex Luthor, hopefully Clark will be real busy and Lionel will be real dead. De Knight said in his blog that they were constrained by certain things such as Johnathan dying (however, this did not happen in all versions). The show seems to be tracking the movie and pre-crisis comics and Martha will need some people her own age to play against.

Does that mean Matha might get a friend named Ben Hubbard sometime this season or next? It would be interesting for Clark, (especially if Ben is really a nice guy and not some Lionel wanna-be).

Not that I think that would be a good idea either, but I don't know if Ben would be either. They should have her get involved with Uncle Jack the ex-senetor.

My opinion? I think SV needs to start distancing itself from SR, and FAST! The more they try to hang with that continuity by not contradicting it, the more they'll become associated with it. I don't EVER want to see the film franchise's version as the final destination for SV's Clark Kent. Ever!

Keep SV fresh; don't needlessly attach any ball and chains that can't be detached if and when it becomes necessary. If they must bring on somebody for Martha (I'm not opposed to the idea), please just let it be a NEW character.

I really only want to see a "Ben Hupboard" type of character come into the picture when Clark leaves Smallville.

Martha's got her hands full with Lionel and introducing another character into the equation will just take time away from more important stuff.

I had thought about them introducing a new character also. I think it would be great as long as they actually follow through with the character...not like Jason, Pete, Nell, Henry, the Principal....yada yada so on and so forth.

I agree. But I fear that may be the case. I think we should ask DeKnight about that. And last but not least I don't want to see Tom in maroon in the final episode or I'm taking the next flight to Vancouver and I'm gonna go all Clint Eastwood on their asses !!

Ben Hubbard was only from a throw away line in Superman The Movie.. he's really got no other significance in the mythos that I know of
