Best Alfred.... So Far

Best Alfred?

Damn, y'all had to leave Sean Pertwee out , huh? lol

As far as movies go, I'm inclined to go with Caine, seeing as how well done/fleshed out the relationship between Bruce and Alfred is in the Nolan movies. The scene where Bruce tells him to leave always kills me.

"It means your hatred... And it means losing someone that I have cared for, since I first heard his cries... ECHO... through these walls. "

That line and his delivery ****ing break me, man. :csad:

Okay Caine is the best movie Alfred IMO, but Pertwee is one of only reasons to watch Gotham - his Alfred is a boss !

Sean Pertwee.

Cain's character is obviously the best written and most fleshed out Alfred. Gough's is a close second but it feels like an unfair comparison. Burton focused on Batman, while Nolan added more of Bruce's character and his cast of characters. Alfred got sidelined in the original films, but every time he was onscreen, he killed it.

"I have no wish to spend my few remaining years grieving for old friends...or their sons."

Sean Pertwee deserves to be on the list IMO. But Michael Caine is unbeatable for me.

I'm happy to see so many Pertwee supporters. He really is the best. We've had a ton of great Alfreds though.

Who was the best onscreen Alfred.

Overall, my favorite is still Michael Gough. I guess best, objectively, if there's such a thing, would be Michael Caine? I more prefer Alfred with the posh accent, but I get the rationale with Caine's Alfred, and he did get to do a lot more than Gough. And Caine is believable as an actual butler while being a World War II vet, whereas Gough maybe comes off more as a lifelong butler who hasn't seen that much action, though Gough was the first live action Alfred that was like a surrogate father to Bruce(his reminiscing about teaching Bruce to ride horses and his concern for Bruce's wellbeing). And to his credit, Gough's Alfred has shown himself to be a capable sidekick in the Burton/Schumacher movies.

I'm not a fan of the Alfred's that are outwardly and superficially badass. I don't see the appeal of making Alfred this scary, burly, tough guy who you can look at and know he's slit a few throats in his life. Yeah, Alfred is supposed to be more than just your ordinary butler, and I know he was a spy before, but he doesn't have to look and act like a stereotypical mercenary. Considering Snyder was going for the tough-guy Alfred with Jeremy Irons, I think he kind of pulled it off without it coming off like the Gotham and Beware the Batman Alfreds. He's enough like the traditional Alfred in that he's this soft-spoken gentleman, but you kind of get this ex-James Bond vibe from him too.

I'm not a great fan of Irons' Alfred but I agree with that.

All are great, but I'm feeling Jeremy Irons.

I love them all (Pertwee in particular really made his mark on the character) but I have to vote for Gough.

His performance in Batman & Robin is beautiful.

Pertwee should absolutely be in this poll, so he can lose to Michael Caine as well.

Doesn’t stop people preferring him though. You like Caine better fine but everyone has their own favourite.

Sean Pertwee who criminally isn’t in the poll.

He's fine but Caine & Gough are my first and second choices, he's third :o
Jeremy Irons is the worst and i didnt saw Alan Napier's film :o
