the Queen from AVP was terrible..... plus, you can almost always tell when something is CGI... yeah yeah yeah, can't move around, but when CGi is standing still, you can tottaly tell it's fake.....

look at the alien from Alien... when that things still, or ready too attack... it still looks real to this day....

No, that's one of the few points I agree with new toad-throated George Lucas on, you can tell CGI looks fake?
Guess what!
You can tell rubber puppets, suits and traditionally animated models look fake too.

'Cause, it IS all fake. :o
It's just a matter of how skillfully you can try to pyll off the illusion, and as always, most CG is bad, but what I'm saying is

Take the best of the best of CGI creatures
and then take the best of the best of practical creatures, and the CGI will look way more real, expressive and illusory.

I don't think the Alien looks "real".
I mean, it looks like it's made of real fiberglass and stuff, but it's super obviously a man in a suit.

If an alien were to have a humanly impossible physiology and looked photoreal, that's more impressive to me.*shrug*

And, judging from your name, I'm surprised by your stance, 'cause do you have any idea how laughable Ghostrider would look in the movie if they just got a real, fire-proof plastic skull and doused it in kerosene? lol

i prefer the queen from Aliens. the queen from AvP could move around with more motion, but it had TOO much motion. it moved TOO much and too quick...

...the queen is a big creature that's main purpose is to produce eggs. it's not supposed to run as fast as it did in AvP. i would like to see a mix between the AvP queen and the Aliens queen.

the Queen was never that big either... in AVP, the queen was well over 20' tall... in AVP, the queen was around 14'.....

^Fox beleives that Bigger is Better... the preditors were huge in AVP, bigger blades... the queen, the alien tail was like what? 10' long in one scene

oh, but shorter was better for the alien gestation period.....

god i hate them

Dude, that's an important point also.
AVP sucked ass and was made by idiots, so don't use it as an example of CGI sucking, just because James Cameron was a genius.

Those Professional Wrestler Predators were a joke. And they weren't CGI. ;)

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Batman Begins yet. As far as I can recall, BB had by far arguably the most convincing background CGI I've seen in a film.

Oh please. Batman Begins is by no means a special effects tour de force.

Your batfanboy ears are showing.

Erm, did you even read my post, "fanboy"? I never said BB was a "special effects tour de force". In fact, it's not even close to being counted as one. But most of the CGI in Begins (especially the outdoor background shots) were pretty photo-realistic.

Batman Begins used a slew of miniatures, composites, and CGI shots. the only reason a person wouldn't consider Batman Begins a special effects film is because said person probably doesn't see or notice the effects. BB might not be a special effects undertaking but it still has enough fx shots to be considered an effects movie...

on the contrary...Batman Begins used a slew of miniatures, composites, and CGI shots. the only reason a person wouldn't consider Batman Begins a special effects film is because said person probably doesn't see or notice the effects.

And aren't those best kind of special effects - ones that aren't blatantly noticeable as computer generated trickery? It's exactly why the visual effects in Jurassic Park hold up reasonably well even today thanks to the fimmakers decision to use practical effects like animatronics as well and not rely solely on CGI like many movies do today.

or were they:wow: .....

I hate that movie so much... it's like falling in love with this gorgous woman... you lose touch with her, then find out she's getting banged by some scummy guy, and now she's fat and discusting with 2 kids...

OMG.... Britney Spears is the walking imbodiment of the Alien series....

The practical Raptor heads and feet are the phoniest looking thing in JP. :o

Whoah, good name for a terrible dork band, "The Practical Raptors".

If you don't see or notice the effects then what good are they? Give me bigger than life action any day. I'm talking 10 Commandments parting the Red Sea kinda ****.

So basically you prefer overblown, fake-looking CGI crap over subtle, convincing special effects? Gotcha.

Don't put words in my mouth. I said I like bigger than life action like the parting of the Red Sea. Of course I want it to look real, but I want it dramatic. Not subtle crap that I don't even notice.

Got that?

Yeah, those Raptors weren't done as well as the T-Rex.
The T.Rex head is my favorite ever. When his pupils dilated I was like, "They....really cloned one, just for a movie?"
I was so in awe that I walked into a wall on the way out of the theater, heh.

Easier to get all those little details in though, when it's actually that huge.

ok i give you a chance to correct your mistake. so please in gods name correct what you wrotte. i bet that you didnt mean to writte that.

option B: you will not correct it because you really think like that. ok......my dear friend were you born dumb?

what good are the effects if you dont notice them. come on you can not be that dumb. obviously the purpose of the effects is to show us something that is impossible to film or because it is to dangerous. so obviously if you dont notice them(you belive it is real) then they are f.... good.

you made a mistake right?:up:

Jurrasic Park's CGI isn't as astounding as everyone makes it out to be. For its time, it was obviously the top thing, but the effects have gotten better. The driving force behind JP's greatness seems to be nostalgia/ the memory of the animatronics.

There, I said it. Piss off. :cmad:

The best effects are the most convincing ones. If most people are convinced by the effects in Jurassic Park, then they are the best ones.

It's just like actors. If you don't believe what they are doing, then they are bad actors.

i don't see what's so subtle about a tank-like vehicle driving on top of rooftops...

...and yes, a lot of that scene was done with special effects.

Hmmm...
The Fifth Element tops my list.
For a film made in 1997, It's quite stunning.
It surpasses most modern films.

I always liked Forrest Gump talking to the Presidents, although it's not as impressive today.
