It is easy for us who are to young to remember George Reeves as Superman to dismiss him in favor of Cain.(Ugh!) I will always see Christopher Reeve as my Superman, but George Reeves easily takes these other guys. I recently bought the first season of the Adv. of Superman ,and let me tell you Reeves' Superman is Superb! Way better than Cain's Superman. George Reeves all the way!

But if you're too young to remember George Reeves, you obviously don't remember Kirk Alyn. Kirk really was the Superman we read about in comic

Going to an island on the other side of the world.
General: When can you be there?
Superman: Give me about 30 seconds.

Unlike Reeves (who was a boxer), Kirk never punched the crooks. He said that if Superman really was as strong as depicted, that would have killed anybody. Instead of a punch, he did a back-hand slap with a flick of his wrist.

The poll was a good idea, but there is no way I'm believing that this many people saw the Superman serials. I saw someone say they didn't like the flying animation, but for the period, it wasn't bad. Of course, if you're really looking for the best super-powered hero, give me Tom Tyler as Capt. Marvel (1941). Best serial ever made!

For me the best will always be George Reeves. Alyn looked like he stepped out of the comic but his acting was wooden at best and those flying sequences were pretty atrocious. Reeves had the unenviable job of trying to put over a convincing character restrained by a thirty-minute format. It's interesting to watch how Superman evolves over the course of that show from the dark and often brutal first season episodes to the lighter and eventual silly fare of the color shows. Reeves was every bit the athlete that Alyn and Reeve were and moved with a sure and rapid grace. I still prefer his flying sequences and the way he launched himself into the air over the other versions. In my opinion he was the best actor of the bunch. When we consider Chris Reeve's tragic last years and his untimely death and how it affected so many people, it's easy to forget, especially if you weren't around at the time, just how much Geroge Reeve's passing devastated an entire generation of kids. Reeve's death affected more people across the age spectrum as kids who were first exposed to him had by then grown up. But he had not done a Superman for a long time and had moved on professionaly with varying degrees of success. George Reeves, on the other hand, died while still Superman and that's a major difference. Kids were devastated, absolutely shell-shocked when they read or heard the news. I agree about the Capt. Marvel series--absolutely top-notch with those great efffects and flying scenes. The stunt work by the legendary Dave Sharpe was unbelievable. Again, Tyler as Marvel was about as interesting as a cigarstore indian. He sure looked the part but was severely wanting in the acting department. On last point then I'll shut up. If you haven't seen those old TV shows you can catch their re-release on dvd. If you watch the first season (BW) look for a phenomonal flying shot during the intro and in some episodes. You'll know it when you see it: Superman flying waaay up in the coulds as the camera follows him and pulls back. To my eyes that's the best flying sequence ever. To this day it's never been equalled or topped.

Honestly, I was never a huge fan of George Reeves. I could never get past the fact that he looks nothing like superman.

My vote goes to Kirk Allyn. Those films may have been a bit silly, but they were a hell of a lot of fun.

Anyone who knows what the original Superman comics looked like can tell you that George Reeves was the definitive Golden Age Superman, looking almost like he stepped out of the comics into the show. He looked like Superman, with that jaw of his. Kirk Alyn was awful. A little guy with a goofy smile and a pot belly.

Superman in Peace On Earth (as well as Kingdom Come) looks the way TV's George Reeves looked when he played him in the 1950s. With a big chest, square-set jaw, a bit of a bull neck and age lines on his face. Very stern and mature. "In Peace on Earth, Superman is as young as I'm going to let him be," Ross says. "There's too much fascination with youth in this country today. Like it or not, Superman has the weight of age."

Totally. Steve Rude also draws Superman's costume as form-fitting but not the "second skin" so many artists portray. There's plenty of power implied in Superman's build, but again there's no detailed musculature or popping veins visible through the blue tights; just a feeling of bulk under a costume that bunches slightly at the elbows and knees...the George Reeves look.

I love how you act like you and theBat-Man are two different people.... Kal-El you're not. :down

Lol. Because two people couldn't be George Reeves fans. That's the Man-Bat!

No, we're not the same person. :o
But that Man-Bat has good taste.

Just for the record...I'm a Smallville fan, and just to get it out of the way....Tom Welling does not play Superman. Okay.

George Reeves is my pick. I'm 20 years old, and grew up on the LOIS AND CLARK stuff.....and even for me it was pretty much cringe worthy.

However, when I was younger....before the Dean Cain show, I watched the reruns of the George Reeves show. George Reeves was the man.

Hey, another George Reeves fan. Must be the same person.

Thank you I've read my share of the older superman comics, and I disagree that George Reeves really looked like Superman.

First off, don't try to dodge the matter by using a poor ploy to claim my catching you is so outrageous or biased toward you over this particular topic. There's plenty of George Reeves fan, I'm one myself. That's not the reason I'm saying you're the same guy.... don't be that stupid.

And you're not the same guy? Odd, considering the fact that your names are formatted the same way with the same improper grammer... no space between the "the"s and the other words, not to mention the hyphenation between the words "bat" and "man", no matter what order they're in.

And the fact that both guys get into the habit of posting endless pictures and trying to prove themselves right with tons of long-winded speeches with poorly thought-out research, sounding like pre-written defenses, trying to qualify themselves by researching everything they can. And the matching spelling and sentence structure.

No, not the same person at all.....

Really, you should just quit using two accounts... it's not needed and really rather silly, and I'm sure there's a rule on it, too. Especially when you use your other account to agree with yourself so you don't seem so alone in your thoughts. And then COMPLIMENTING yourself with the other account? That's just sad, and a dead giveaway.

And it's not even convincingly different! If you're going to have two accounts, at least take the effort to make the other account more different outside of a name change and bolded font!
