OK, best sci-fi classic, with multiple votes allowed!

Alien
Aliens
The Matrix
Star Wars
Terminator

Im torn between

Blade Runner
Close Encounters
Brazil
Logans run

The Day The Earth Stood Still...excellent.

I still don't get the list. :p I mean why Star Trek 4, wrath of khan is the movie everyone would agree is the best. Four is stupid anyway, why goto the bloody 80's for a whale.... why is the premise of the film centered around whales in the first place.

Star trek 4 is the best star trek and my fav. It's a cocial commentary on the world at the time, but by people with pointy ears and such like. It has the best lines and is funny, and this is my post, lol. But whould anyone here rate wrath of khan as higher than blade runner or aliens though?

Why is the only Star Trek, Star Trek 4? I would think Wrath of Kahn and First Contact are the most classic. (and maybe Search For Spock)

Anyway, Star Wars.

Why is "Brazil" up there, but not "1984", the movie "Brazil" copied?

although Brazil does share a lot in 1984 the book , the movie is quite different. Brazil is a far superior film to 1984, and does have originality, Brazil is more of a social comment on commercialism and consumerism, rather than a purely political platform.

imo the day the earth stood still is the most classic sci fi movie ever...with metropolis a close second. not saying they're my favourites...but the most "classic".....

Your opinion is not law... Plus let us examine the plot of Star Trek 4

"In the future a huge cigar will come to earth looking for the company of a very specific breed of whale known as the humpback whale, saddly the humpback whale is extinct, so the crew go back in time kidnap a huge whale so it can talk to a huge cigar which in exchange doesn't destroy the earth, and throw in a ton of lame jokes..."

Yeah, your opinion is spot on

Why no Wrath of Khan?
Khan kicks whale ass
Khan>Whales
KHAN!!!

Also, no Serenity or Fifth Element?
Serenity owns all of those films (Except for Star Wars).
You, sir, know nothing about sci-fi movies if this is all you have listed.

Your opinion holds no weight, I can accept someone saying they love Serenity but to make such a blacket statement for a fanboy jerk-off movie, have you even seen Brazil or Blade Runner?

Blade Runner-yes, found it amazing.
Brazil-no, I can't find it anywhere(And I refuse to use Ebay or buy it over the internet).

I've seen all of the films on the list, except for Brazil.
Where are Forbidden Planet, Planet of the Apes(Original), The Thing, Twelve Monkeys, THX 1138, Minority Report, AI, Jurrasic Park, Serenity, and the Fifth Element.

Star Wars-for action adventure sci fi there is none better than the original SW trilogy

Blade Runner -for "future with in reach" noir sci-fi,amazing visuals that inspired many that followed

matrix -best of the "when AI goes bad" movies that also touches on virtual reality and incorporates Anime and HK action

The Terminator -Sci Fi in our world, frightening cat and mouse two handed thriller(sequel compliments and improves well)

Aliens -Sci-Fi action/horror,a space war movie meets monster horror, takes the tension of the first along with the greatest screen monster ever and piles action into the mix as the humans face the most deadly killing machine ever,Classic

ST 4 ?ewwwwwww the camp :p

when making these lists you should use general consensus for picking the list of supposed classics
For instance to include SW ANH and not ESB is very odd since ESB is widely considered the best
I was bored to tears with 2001 but i would include it in this type of list as it's place is undeniable despite my own personal feelings

I don't think he cares about consensus. I made a list two post above of films that could have been included.

as great as (most of) the movies on that list are, i'm going with the matrix. it was original, accessible, smart, and cool as hell.
