The Dark Knight Rises Best Third Act in the Trilogy

^ I can.

The Dark Knight.

Yeah, I love Dark Knight, too.

The idea of Batman taking the blame for Harvey a good one, and Gordon's monologue is swell.

But it's still a monologue explaining to the audience the closing statement of the movie.

TDKR has an even more powerful idea behind it, (Bruce making the choice to move on with his life and pass Batman onto another generation...cementing Batman as a timeless symbol).

And TDKR does all of this visually with no wordy monologue.

Cinematic visual storytelling = better movie making = Better ending.

(Just my opinion, though. We all have to decide for ourselves what matters most in a movie). :yay:

Unlike others, I never felt that the TDK ending was spelling out the themes of the film for me. I just thought it was an awesome Gordon monologue. Simple as that.

But yes, the Rises ending does convey a lot without using any dialogue whatsoever.

TDK's ending is a very dark ending, with a slight silver lining...whereas TDKR's ending is more of a happy ending overall, with a touch of melancholy. They're both powerful endings in different ways and get a completely different emotional response out of me.

TDK's ending gets me straight up pumped about Batman (by the time Gordon's speech kicks in anyway), whereas TDKR really gives me a lump in the throat with all its bittersweet majesty.

I remember seeing TDK for the first time back in 08'. It was so tragic the way Harvey died a monster, with Batman and Gordon standing over his lifeless body, both in disbelief at what had just transpired and the consequences it would have on Gotham's future. Then Batman quotes Dent about dieing a hero/living to be the villain, looks over to Gordon and tells him he killed those people, that he's whatever Gotham needs him to be. That unequivocal look in Bale's eyes as he tells Gordon to call it in. Yes, it's a downer in many ways because the Joker did succeed in tearing down Gotham's "White Knight", but Batman's ultimate trump card that defeated the Joker in the end - his altruism, definitely my favorite ending to a movie, period.

But it took subsequent viewings for me to determine that, which is how I feel it will go down with TDKR ending. I was cold on my first viewing because I'm like, yeah he's going to fake his death and no one will be the wiser, so seeing it again for my second viewing made me appreciate it more. And I'm sure once I see it again on Blu-Ray it will have an even greater impact on me.
