Cena isn't going win over Punk's fans until he turns heel and he won't do it. He's doing it for his fans.

I give props to Cena.He stepped up tonight. The thing that's great about Punk isn't him dropping names. He makes you believe in what he's saying. You know it's real to him. That's what the best in the business have always done.

Agreed...

If you were watching Punk's face he was being 100% truthful. His emotions were running his promo tonight when talking about the cuts. THAT is more real than anything Cena said.

Again, don't get me wrong... Cena stepped up bigger than he normally does... but unlike Punk, some of his stuff still feels "scripted" whether it is or not...

I hope Cena keeps going this route though. If he goes off on his own as much as Punk has... Everyone wins.

I just gotta say I laughed pretty damn hard when Cena said Rock was doing GIJoe and Punk replied "I hate that!" :funny:

In fairness to Cena he could probably bring that regularly, he is a good talker who has been booked into a corner by the WWE.

I think so. Tonight he did do a "defy the odds" style promo OR a silly joke laden promo. What he said tonight just felt like a real guy going out there and letting his feelings be known.

Thats when Cena is at his best on the mic in this kinds of big stories. I thought his work tonight had ten times more substance than that Rock video...and thats more of what THEIR particular feud will need come Wrestlemania.

Cena doesn't necessarily even have to turn heel to make his act more fresh in the short term he just needs to inject his work with more of the genuineness he displayed tonight.

If WWE gave him the option he'd turn heel in an instant.

I agree with this.

Cena seems to really enjoy being a heel... but the WWE won't allow him to do such.

Maybe they will now since Punks shirts are selling out... but... we'll see.

I was when this first started but I realized now, that he's just naming names. Tonight when they called him out of his BS, he called them out on BS. But their **** was firing people on the phone? Come on Punk, you can do better than that. Cena has regain my respect and fanhood during this whole thing. They keep calling him phony but Cena's the realist guy in this whole thing in my eyes. He's doing it for his fans and not wanting anything out of this except to be the champ.

And that's totally cool because I can see where you're coming from. Both guys made compelling arguments tonight. That's how it should be. That...is pro wrestling.

Yup.

I'm a Punk mark... and when Cena makes poop jokes and talks about butts or whatever else I can't help but wonder why anyone over 12 would cheer the guy. However, when he's "real" I can see why older fans like him.

Cena's not "beyond getting my cheers" like he thinks he is... (unless he's up against Punk...) but he needs to be the John Cena I remember before he started wearing bright shirts or making fart jokes.

Steve Austin made a GREAT case for himself over being fired over the phone so I wouldn't dismiss it so easily. The issue was about gutless stooge corporate bs. What Punk was talking about tonight thats the kind of thing that seems genuine. I'm sure a lot of people have dealt with that kind of stuff right or wrong.

Cena was very good tonight...the problem is that he had no ammo in his gun. His points were fluff. While Punk could say honest, truthful things that destroyed Cena...Cena really has nothing to go against Punk...and the few things he does have, Punk just embraces, which immediately makes the attack useless.

As if it wasn't obvious before...

The Punk/Cena rivalry this summer really underlines the importance of promos. The mic, more than in the in-ring work at times, is what will get a feud or a star over. It's why it's so important for guys to learn it and not rely on being spot monkeys. It also shows why scripted promos suck. Punk is Punk as always, but this was the most natural Cena has sounded on the mic in a long time.

I don't know how they're going to book main-event feuds when this is over in terms of promo work.

I feel the same way about Punk and Cena does the same thing.

I'd actually like to see Cena lose clean again, I'd like to see the whole "one hit wonder" thing Cena brought up "bite him" and then have that start to eat at him because he actually believed there was no way Punk would beat him, clean, again.

Allow that to become Cena's slide into, if not heel..then a "darker" tweener. I'd love him to bring back his Basic Thugganomics theme and, if he had to... Win dirty.

Change Cena up... make him a "do whatever he has to do to win" face (if they don't want to fully turn him heel) just to freshen him up a bit... I would really, reeeally like to see him turn based on his loss, once again, to Punk.

What so Alberto talking about how every step he takes is his destiny isn't doing it for you?

WWE doesn't owe any guy they fire a reason. Your fired, your fired. I don't have to explain it or tell you in person.

It's called class and having a set. If you are firing someone, tell them to their face like a man, don't send your pet stooge.

*ahem* JOHN MORRISON

Well said, once again I agree.

So if you were called up by your boss and fired out of the blue.. you wouldn't ask why? Or expect to be given a reason? You'd justs say "Ok, thank you for your time" and take it?

And that's probably part of Punk's argument. The company just fire guys without reason, inconsiderate of the fact that these men and women have families and this is their source of income, their dreams and such...well that's me talking but I can see Punk using that in a promo. :lmao:

John Morrison is not a spot monkey. I'm as critical of him as anybody but a spot monkey he is not. It's just that his spots this year have really stood out and nothing else about him has.

Eh, I was mostly meaning "needing to learn to talk" than "spot monkey."

No I'd be pissed off. But My boss doesn't have to give me a reason.

He was the guy I was thinking about when writing it. My friend had made a crack about Morrison coming back and dragging R-Truth down...it's so weird that R-Truth is higher up on the chain than Morrison but he got himself over enough to get that spot. I like Morrison but his underdevelopment on the mic is saddening, he should be further along.

Oh ok...He's never going to learn how to talk. Some guys just don't have that talent. WWE's environment doesn't help any though. It's not a coincidence that the guys who have the best promos are clearly going off script most of the time.

Cena unloading on all the stuff he reads about himself and then saying he was fine with his fans being mostly kids and women came off a bit like he was trying to convince himself that he doesn't care that he lacks the respect guys like HBK, Taker, Austin and Triple H have with the crowds.

I like that he also didn't try to counter the fact he was a hand picked guy, yes he's worked hard as the face of the company, promoting it tirelessly, but Miz showed given a chance other guys will as well, but they don't all start with the silver platter Cena got.

I think the best part of his promo was when he told Punk the pressure was on as Punk needs this win to keep his momentum, Cena will still be the golden boy no matter the result, his quiet delivery was great and Punk's concern he then tried to mask with a smirk really sold the truth in Cena's words.
