a dark gritty cop movie like the first one would go down a treat. Im still optimistic about this. Plus, there were some rumours that eddie wanted to do something that wasnt so family friendly. If the studio are doing surveys, everyone will be saying they want one closer to the first again. heres hoping. Didnt tarantino say he always wanted to direct a BH4 movie??? thatd be seriously cool.

Eddie Going Back To Beverly Hills With A Rat

According to the trades, Paramount has set in motion a fourth installment of "Beverly Hills Cop." Eddie Murphy is attached to reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley, and Brett Ratner is negotiating to direct.

What's funny is that on my way to the Sex and the City screening, El Mayimbe and myself were talking about how Eddie Murphy needs to start doing R rated films again rather than these lame ass family films. I'm just hoping that the fourth installment wont be as bad as the third film.

Studio is aiming for a 2009 production start and a summer 2010 release.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original "Beverly Hills Cop" trilogy with late partner Don Simpson, won't be actively involved in the new film.

The trades also report that Murphy approached the studio about reviving the franchise that cemented his status as a B.O. mega-star. Par brass were eager to land another picture with Murphy after he finished the Karey Kirkpatrick-directed "NowhereLand," which Paramount releases in June 2009.

That film was also produced by Di Bonaventura, who is working on the summer 2009 releases "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers 2."

The studio canvassed a number of directors before choosing Ratner. A writer will be hired shortly.

Like I've said before, Ratner seems to be the go to guy when all the other directors decide not to do something.

Brett Ratner!?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And this is coming from someone who doesn't dislike 'X-Men 3.' Why not call Tony Scott? I really liked 'Beverly Hills Cop 2.' Or Shane Black?

it wont eb R. and because it wont be R it wont be the same. now will some die hard 4 defender jump on me.

Oh, it's on now.

I would rather Coming to America II: the Legend of Soul Glo with Eriq LaSalle reprising his role as Darryl

Beverly Hills cop 4 reaks of 'I need a career boost'

I miss 80s Eddie Murphy, the one that was funny and not a jackass. They should get Charlie Murphy the other half of darkness in it

If only Jerry was producing, he could take it back to it's roots. And not the lame ass comedy of part 3. Still the second one is the best to me. It was funny yet had some great action.

great news the movie is moving forward, looks like the 80s revival rolls on!

although eddie hasn't done a R rated movie for years,

how is he going to do it ??

he only does kids movies.

Beverly Hills cop requires Axel Foley, the wise ass , foul mouthed dude, and we don't know whether Eddie can do it.

parts 1 & 2 were awesome, gritty yet funny and full of action.
The second one was terrific with Tony Scott directing.

The 3rd movie though was rubbish, and the grittiness was removed for sheer slapstick, which was the wrong tone completely.

They better do the following things for this movie.

1. axel foley must use bad language
2. Harold Faltermeyer must be lured out of retirement and asked to make the soundtrack score for this movie.

the 3rd movie had some really crap music.

the 1st and 2nd had awesome music, and the scores by Faltermeyer were terrific.

They better ask Faltermeyer to come out of retirement and make the music for this movie. Nothing will be more satisfying than hearing a proper electro Axel F theme by the original guy himself!!

i would prefer Tony Scott over Ratner anyday.

Tony Scott deserves the vote just for the way he put in the Playboy mansion in Part 2!!

big ******* and plenty of action !!
the club scene in part 2 is sheer genius!!

I think Tony Scott's gotten too carried away with his visual style. This movie needs Edgar Wright!! (I'm dead f'ing serious, too!)

I'd prefer Tony Scott personally as well, loved what he did with the second.

I think people underestimate Edgar. The Guy has been living with Tarintino. You know his probabley been picking up a few of his skills.

I'm gonna admit i like Brett Ratner and most the films he makes.:yay:

yeah I said it big woop wanna fight?:oldrazz:

Instead of Axel going back to Beverley hills...yet again. Why don't they have a badass cop from Beverley hills...come to Detriot into Axel's hood. It would make the series fresh again

i'm sure someone has already said it, but this film better be rated R. after Lethal Weapon 4, and Die hard 4 (which was PG-13), they better stay true to the franchise with this one. Which they probably won't. But Brett Ratner is pretty good. I liked X3.

Well I would say its 50/50 he was going very well with shrek and dream girls he even got a golden globe award but Norbit ...Oh lord! put him right back to earth.

I think he makes poor choices. If you ever had the misfourtune of sitting through Pluto Nash or I Spy you would think his washed up.

I can't believe he turned down Ghostbusters

I think he should act like Trump toward his agent: You re fired!:o

Was it the role of Winston that he turned down? If so, that role made Ernie Hudson a known name.

His last good film was Dreamgirls, which I saw the other day. He was very good in that.

Alas, we will never see the 80's Eddie Murphy that was so great.

Brett Ratner? Really? This man will never be taken seriously as a filmmaker. :csad: Oh well. Lets hope its good. I mean...the third installment isn't hard to beat. :o
