Big Trouble in Little China remake with The Rock

Yeah they had better make the Rock as useless as Jack Burton was in the original, and Kurt Russell had better return, bragging to everyone about how he SINGLEHANDEDLY defeated Lo Pan’s army. Also, bring Dennis Dun and Kim Cattrall back while you’re at it.

And if the Rock is going to have a best bud character (who does most of the fighting), I nominate Iko Uwais or Daniel Wu.

Anthoy Burch did write a comic series called "Old man Jack"

I hope this happens, and that Kurt Russell has a fairly large role, or at the very least an important one (ala Harrison Ford in Blade Runner 2049) and it's a giant hit and it leads to what we all really want...

Escape from Earth starring Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken.

I'm guessing Kurt Russell shows up at the end to tease a sequel where he and Rock team up.

So it’s a sequel rather than a remake now? Huh, I am not a fan of either idea but will see what they bring us before hating it outright.

IF they bring back Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall...I'm in.

But that is the only way.

Re-reading the quotes makes me realise that they dont actually use the word sequel. They use 'continuation' several times and even refer to the first movie as 'standalone' but in the same universe - is this an Aliens/Prometheus situation?

I think it's like Jumani. It's not a sequel in the sense it requires having seen the first one to understand key plot points. But if you have seen it, it adds to the level viewing. Basically a soft reboot without actually rebooting and upsetting fans of the original.

Yeah Jumanji makes sense, it will be a continuation that has loose connections to the original.

Yeah, pretty much all depends on the director. Carpenter's basically one of a kind, and he won't come back, so...

Personally, I didn't see why everyone was digging the Jumanji thing so much, it was funny but felt pretty disposable overall. Ehh, I dunno. Definitely glad it's not a reboot now though, easier to accept The Rock as some new character.

Writer Updates Us On That BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA Remake (Or Is It A Sequel?) With Dwayne Johnson - Revenge of The Fans

I asked Mr. Stentz about the project, since he’s attached to it and I wanted to know what he could offer up about the film- and he pretty much confirmed that it evolved into a legacy sequel, instead of a remake.

Here’s what Stentz said about Big Trouble In Little China:

I’m not sure what’s happening with that. We turned in the script. They said they were happy with it. I’ve now heard rumors that they might be going in a different direction. We made- my ex partner (Ashley Edward Miller) and I- wrote a straight up remake, where Dwayne Johnson is playing Jack Burton. I think, after spending time with Kurt Russell, on the set of the last couple Fast and The Furious movies- I think some conversations may have taken place, and I think they might be coming around to the idea that it’s going to be more of a sequel than a remake, and that Kurt would come back as an older Jack Burton and Dwayne would be playing a new character.

And what about the Disney factor here? Did the merger affect the film? Stentz sure seems to think so.

But as far as I know, they haven’t commissioned writers, and they haven’t- kind of- moved forward on that, simply because of a combination of Dwayne being booked for the foreseeable future, and the fact that it’s a Fox movie and the sale to Disney has kind of thrown a lot of things into chaos and uncertainty.

I'd watch it either way. I wonder if they will reference events in the comics continuing this movie about David Lo Pan being in a Hell for people killed by idiots and his soul possessing the body of Jack Burton.

They might adapt this with old Jack Burton used for these movie, and then both him and the Rock are a team working together to stop the reincarnated David Lo Pan.

If Kurt returned as Jack Burton to team up with Rock I'd certainly be a lot more interested. I wonder if Carpenter would consider coming back to direct.

For me, Carpenter's work is one of those directors where he's untouchable for a re-make, given he's my 2nd favourite director, appreciate I'm biased on that.

I have a feeling it won't happen for some time or at all since Disney acquired Fox. :csad:
