Wang is like..the true hero of this movie if you think about it. Anytime you see Jack Burton, he doesn't know what he's doing! haha.

I obviously get that Russell's going to take presidence on the cover given that he's the lead draw, but it is kinda off that they didnt put the real hero of the movie on the cover at all, especually when his comedy sidekick is up close and centred.

I'd never noticed it myself before until about 8 years ago when a friend of mine pointed it out to me.

You gotta give Carpenter for having the balls to take conventions and turn them upside down - the big strong American lead is basically the wise-ass yet accident prone comic relief and the person who would traditionally be his sidekick, the small Chinese guy, is the ass-kicking hero who takes care of business.

Man, Carpenter in the 80's was the bomb for such progressive and revolutionary thinking. That's why it sucks even more than Wang doesnt even feature at all on that Blu-Ray cover.

My friends and I literally still quote it daily, especially anytime we're in an elevator we basically do the whole "magic potion" scene. It NEVER gets old, for us at least, our wives/gf's on the other hand....

i first got this movie on vhs, copied from the rental place, wore that out. then got the dvd, now have it on my dvr in HD. i must have seen it over 60 times in my life. it still holds up.

oh and russell did a good john wayne in this movie. i did love the opening of this movie. the lightning in egg's hands was so cool. "chinese black magic", this movie is my favorite carpenter movie. this movie was a who's who of asian actors.
