Biggest Oscar Robbery

Some movies that didn´t win the Oscar for best movie:

Citizen Kane

2001

Apocalypse Now

Blade Runner

None of Hitchcock´s movies

None of Scorsese´s movies

None of Chaplin´s movies

That's debatable. Star Wars is a landmark in cinematic history, sure. But Annie Hall was intellegent, funny, innovative and moving. It's much more of a thinking man's movie than Star Wars. And it's still a classic. Saying that Annie Hall robbed Star Wars implies that it didn't deserve the Oscars it won. It was only a shame that they were both made in the same year.

I've always thought that the biggest problems with the Oscars were this practice of "make up" awards. I'm not talking about prosthetics and mascara.

Some examples: Morgan Freeman won for Million Dollar baby. He was good, but it wasn't his best role. His best roles were probably in Street Smart and The Shawshank Redemption, which he was not awarded for. Same thing happened with Denzel Washington, who got the statue for Training Day when he was robbed for his work in Malcolm X.

This happens all the time. Al Pacino got an Oscar for Scent of a Woman when he should have gotten it for The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon or even Scarface. Tom Hanks should have gotten Oscars for Big and Cast Away, not for Philadelphia or Forrest Gump.

It's a silly political practice that has no place in a system based on merit.

Yeah, I saw Annie Hall the other day. Some jokes are dated, some stuff became cliché now, but it was very innovative at the time and it´s still a very intelligent comedy.

I´ll agree on people winning the wrong Oscars. I´ll also mention Sean Penn for Mystic River instead of 21 Grams, Russel Crowe for Gladiator instead of A Beautiful Mind and Denzel, I´d also mention Hurricane.

The LOTR franchise was more than over-compensated with the ROTK sweep, so I have no problem with the other two not getting theirs.

Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan.

I mean, seriously, ugh.

I think neither of them deserved the Oscar.

Oh, and that year, Cate Blanchett got robbed. She deserved the Best Actress for her role in Elizabeth. And Geoffrey Rush deserved an Oscar, but not for his role of Henslowe in Shakespeare in Love, but of Walsingham in Elizabeth.

Yeah, Penn was much better in 21 Grams in my opinion. Del Toro won for his role in that, right?

No, I think Del Toro won Traffic, another drg movie.

Sean Penn over Johnny Depp. Comedic performances alost never win.

The Two Towers not winning best Pic. (It was the best of the three)

Niaomi Watts not getting a nom for King Kong.

Denzel Washington getting screwed for Malcolm X shows us 'the man' still runs hollywood.:(

Burton's Planet of the Apes not being nominated for best makeup I always thought was wrong. Granted, it was far from a great movie (or even a good one), but the makeup were simply stunning.

Agreed.I was a little disapointed that Hellboy or Sin City didn't get make-up noms either.

Bobcat Goldwaith for Police Academy 4, dammit he deserved it over Tim Kazurinsky.

Another one, Helen Hunt winning over Julie Christie
Helen Hunt robbed every other actress nominated that year (IMHO I would have given it to Emily Watson)

Russel Crowe was great in a beautiful mind but Denzel OWNED IN TRAINING DAY!!! How he just played that young rookie cop like nothing!!! He truly was the essence of evil in that movie!

Shakespeare In Love over Saving Private Ryan for best picture. The Hollywood honchos need to be slaughtered for making that decision.
Name me 10 people that knows that movie??? Saving Private Ryan is the greatest war movie of all time! PERIOD!

As for the biggest oscar robbery would have to be Adrian Brody over Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York! Now dont get me wrong Brody was good in the Pianist but to compare him to Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York???!!! Just ludacris!!! That was easily one of the greatest performance of all time!!! and it also has the greatest acting scene performance of all time in gangs of New York! U know which scene im talking about, when DDL was crying over that poor little rabbit, ****ing Classic

Well, Emily Watson was nominated one year before for breaking the wales, in 1996. In 1997, Helen Hunt robbed every main actress nominated. Helena Boham Carter was better, Judy Dench was better, Kate Winslet was better and specially Julie Christie was better.

not to toot my own horn but i'm a thinking man, and i tried watching Annie Hall whenever its on tv so many times but i either fall asleep or keep losing interest not even half way through. and their humour is corny (to me anyway). Star Wars deserved to win Best Picture specially if you consider how much impact it had to movies decades later.

speaking of which i really think The Phantom Menace should've won the VFX award instead of The Matrix. bullet time is cool in its day, but then TPM had blazed the trail for so many effects being used today-- most notably the CG character. so without that infernal Gungan there would be no mutated hobbit or giant sized gorilla or flying, spinning superheroes. ;)

Halle Berry's victory over the other nominees. Seriously, Monster's Ball sucked

Russel Crowe sucked in A Beautiful Mind (BTW, A Beautiful Mind is one of the worst movies to ever win Best Picture)

BIGGEST ROBBERIES

MOVIE - Forrest Gump over BOTH Shawshank and Pulp Fiction (Forest Gump is a bad movie - not bad for an Oscar winner, but just plain bad)

DIRECTOR - Scorsese/Kubrick - take your pick...both men deserved multiple Oscars
